High above the Mediterranean sea stands CapoVaticano, a majestic granite cape known for its beauty. From here you enjoy breath-taking views of the Aeolian Islands and truly spectacular sunsets with the volcano Stromboli puffing away.
In 2004 the French Guide “Editions Grand Voyageurs” ranked Capo Vaticano as one of the three most beautiful Italian beaches among the 100 most beautiful in the world. You may access the beach below by a private stairway carved into the granite. Several other beaches are just minutes away by car. There you may also rent a boat to explore the coast and enjoy diving, sailing and fishing.
Secluded in the vegetation lies the one bedroom cottage which has a large living room/kitchen and a porch where you can relax or dine. In total privacy you forget the rest of the world and enjoy nature at its best. The two couches in the living room can be used as queen or twin beds.
In Capo Vaticano you may stroll through the property and take advantage of the wonderful gardens, pick your own vegetables, figs and grapes. You mustn't forget to taste the famous red onions from Tropea.
Shops, restaurant and “pizzerie” are only minutes away by foot or by car.
This oasis cottage is one of eight private cottages on the property. Please feel free to inquire about them.

Capo Vaticano is an excellent starting point for day trips or short excursions. Not to be missed, only 12 km away is the magnificent town of Tropea. With its beautiful architecture, Tropea has kept its urban structure dating to the XVII and XVIII centuries. Walk around town and admire the palaces and the numerous churches among which the Duomo, in Norman style. Tropea also offers great shopping, especially for local pottery and linens.
Sicily is only two hours away, from Capo Vaticano on clear days you can see the volcano Etna. On the way to Sicily you may stop in Reggio Calabria and visit the Archeological Museum where the world renowned “Bronzi di Riace” are located.
Day trips to the Aeolian Islands via hydrofoil are available from Capo Vaticano and from Tropea.
Year Purchased: 1956
About: The property was purchased in 1956 by my father, the world renowned author Giuseppe Berto. He lived here for long periods of time. A relentless promoter of the beauty, the civilization and the rural architecture of the Italian South he preserved the cape from the intrusion of modern development and the explosion of cement that has altered great extents of the Italian coast.
My family and I spend the summer in Capo Vaticano. We are available to answer your requests or needs, weather you are looking for a good local restaurant or an exciting fishing trip.
My husband, Phillip, and I have been in the restaurant business for almost 30 years.
We serve dinner three times a week, cooking local and traditionally inspired cuisine.
We also can provide picnic baskets for a day at the beach or else.
Cooking lessons are available.
Why Capo Vaticano: "As soon as I saw it, I knew that the land, from where you could see magical islands, was my second home, and hence I came to live there. I am on a cliff high above the sea; it's a truly breathtaking view. During the day, as I look at rocks and coves one hundred meter underneath me, the crystalline sea becoming deeper and deeper, I know that I am in one of the most beautiful places on earth".
The Unique Benefits at this Villa: Capo Vaticano is a majestic granite promontory where in ancient times legend has it that Manto, a prophetess, worked the oracle on a rock off the cape, exactly in front of our property.
It is because of its unique position and beauty that you enjoy breathtaking views of the Aeolian Islands with volcano Stromboli puffing away.
On calm days the sea offers an incredible color palette, changing from blue to green to turquoise to violet.
Just a few minutes away by car there is the Capo Vaticano Resort Thalasso and SPA.
A beach front property that offers massages, thalasso therapy, sauna, hamam and a heated sea water pool with a stone walk in the water.
