Whether you’re looking for a peaceful place to retreat for some quiet introspection; or a relaxing, romantic, private getaway with no cars driving past your front door & no foot traffic, unless someone has taken a wrong turn on a nearby trail; or fun, outdoor adventure & exploration during the day just minutes away (or even right outside your door), with a comfortable place to return to connect or reconnect with family, your children, friends, your loved one, or even with yourself....our little house in the forest is a perfect, yet affordable place to visit.

We like to call it our own little, yet spectacular slice of heaven, because the beauty of the view, whether the sun is shining through the trees or even if the rain is pouring down, with nature as far as you can see; and the scent of the fresh outdoors; and the peacefulness you experience when surrounded by quiet...all are truly breathtaking...it’s like being in a treehouse nestled atop beautiful, towering redwoods; a few, proud, white oak; and twisting, exotic madrones, but with the comforts & space of a real home.

The home is a fully furnished house in the middle of the forest, but only approx. ten miles away from downtown Santa Cruz and the ocean only a short drive away. House is situated higher up, overlooking the trees, with an amazing view off the wrap around deck. Very quiet and secluded, but neighbors just close enough to feel safe.

BEDS (3 bedrooms + loft): Master w/ private bathroom has 1 KING size bed; 2nd bedroom has 1 QUEEN; 3rd bedroom has a Bunk Bed w/ a DOUBLE bed on the bottom & TWIN on top; the loft has 2 TWIN beds, but the the ceiling in low and sloped on sides; and there are two foldable futons w/ bedding, that you lay on the floor or the sofas can sleep a single, but they are not pull-out sofas.

Located off Highway 9 and Alba Road, Ben Lomond, CA

Home is only to be occupied by the maximum # of guests allowed (10), regardless if staying the night or not, unless agreed upon by owner. No functions/gatherings/parties are allowed on property (besides with the maximum # of guests), unless otherwise discussed and given permission by the Owners.

"I had the great fortune of using this home as a workshop space. Our class was small, and the space was warm, inviting, and gave us the quiet we needed to engage in our healing work. I am full of gratitude - transformation and seeds for change were planted in people's hearts today, and the space was an important part of the process."

We had a very pleasant stay in this beautiful house in the forest. The house has very quiet and comfortable and clean, and had plenty of nice appliances and utensils. It was peacefully secluded, yet just a short drive into the village of Ben Lomond. The kids loved the loft, and had a great time looking for banana slugs in the forest. We took day trips into Santa Cruz and San Francisco. Deana was very easy to deal with, and made sure our stay was pleasant. All in all, a very relaxing vacation. We hope to return.

My two oldest girlfriends and I spent several days here with our daughters - it was perfect! The property is located in a quiet tree-shaded area on a quiet street. We were away from it all but still close enough to Santa Cruz to easily go to the beach and go out for dinner. Deana and Erik have made this home so comfortable - with everything you need for a fantastic getaway! We loved it and plan on returning.

Three couples from Minnesota, a major birthday year for the three wives. The Santa Cruz area seemed like it would be central to our plan for a week of touring redwoods, Monterey/Carmel, San Francisco, and wine tasting. We toured a bit each day and were happy to return to this quiet home in the mountains. It was only a few minutes out of town, but seemed miles from anywhere. I think this place exceeded all of our expectations. We found everything that we needed. I would recommend this house to my friends.

This gem is nestled in the redwoods, just the right distance away from the Bay Area. It's in a beautiful, secluded area while just a short drive from groceries and coffee. The pictures do not do this place justice. I was expecting a rustic cabin but found a modern, smartly decorated home with very comfortable beds and a well-equipped kitchen. The loft is super cute, worth the climb for sure. It was rainy when we visited, so we weren't able to take advantage of the large deck and patio. But it was nice inside and didn't feel cramped even with nine guests. Deana took good care of us and was pleasure to work with. I would wholeheartedly recommend this place to anyone planning a getaway.

We were here for 5 days in June 2011; we wanted to have access to the beach, but be away from the crowds. My oldest son is on the autism spectrum -- he loves water, but hates crowds and loud noise. This place was PERFECT! There were 4 adults and 4 kids -- plenty of room for everyone. Beautiful, quiet area. Huge deck overlooking the forest, short drive in to town for groceries, and easy access to beaches and Santa Cruz! We had fun hiking the area around the house -- the kids were NEVER bored. We will definitely stay here again -- cannot recommend it enough! Also, the house looks exactly as it does in the pictures. It's clean, very well-maintained, and ridiculously well-stocked. We had brought toiletries and other staples -- didn't need any of them. The owners are easily accessible by email, and very helpful.

Not only is the place wonderfully quiet and peaceful, but the owner Deana is only a quick text or phonecall away if you have any questions, and she is the BEST! With a very clean place, an awesome place, and very caring people ... you really don't find this combination very often! I would stay here again in a heartbeat!!! As a matter of fact ... just WRITING this makes me miss it!!! It must be time for another vacation soon!!!! :)

The pictures don't quite do justice. This home is open and comfortable with lots of neat features. The loft space off the living room was a favorite of our kids . We loved spending time together in the beautiful eat-in kitchen and the great outdoor areas as well. The home is secluded and quiet, surrounded by beautiful redwood forrest. One morning we saw a mother and baby deer just outside the home. The quality of the bedding and towels and toiletries was also very good. There's lots of great hiking and parks in the area, but don't miss the Beach Boardwalk, Roaring Camp Railroad and Santa Cruz's beautiful downtown. We had the opportunity to briefly meet the owners Erik and Deana and they were such graceful hosts and genuinely nice people. We highly recommend this rental. You won't be disappointed.

Our family of 9 needed a spacious home with plenty of play space inside & out--this home fit our needs perfectly. Everything was very clean and in working order. No outdated appliances. We used the washing machine & dryer almost daily. Lots of room in the kitchen & eating area for a large group. The secluded area in the woods was great for hikes & just enjoying the mountains. Very quiet & shaded all around the house so you could walk or sit anywhere and read or eat outside. Very short drive (few minutes) into town for groceries and several minutes more into Santa Cruz & the pier/amusement park. Never any traffic. We unintentionally met the owners of the property & they were so friendly and gracious--the same as when we made our initial arrangements. We would definitely stay in this rental home again; its a very good value for the rental cost.

It's been 10 years since my friends and I first met. So many life changes have taken place and we're moving on to the married and with kids phase of life. We thought it time to reconnect and catch up on all the happenings in life. This house provided everything we needed and wanted. Plenty of parking, absolutely gorgeous surroundings, quiet, private, beautiful outdoor seating, etc. The rooms where perfect size, the kitchen was spacious and welcoming. We LOVED it. I cannot emphasize that enough. It was the best feeling walking into this house and seeing how beautiful and inviting it is. You can tell that it was decorated mindfully and that the owners value their investment. I highly recommend this house for everyone looking for a beautiful setting, comfortable home, and a wonderful owner to work with. She is amazing. Full of answers to questions and advice on what to do/where to go. Our weekend away was unforgettable and special.

About the owner: We're a family of five who love the forest and the ocean (where this picture was taken by one of the kids). At first I wondered who would ever want to vacation here, being so used to the city, it was too quiet and seemed boring. Then I realized how very special quiet was. This is our first real try at renting out our home as a vacation rental. It's difficult for us to get away, because of soccer, life in general, kids, and more soccer; so it's hard to justify owning, and sharing it as a vacation rental was the obvious, most practical choice. Santa Cruz is just a short drive away and we love the culture and the music there...and the shopping...and the food (Pizza My Heart rocks!). You can't beat FREE summer concerts on the beach at The Boardwalk. *If have issue w/ link, copy & paste santacruzmountainshouse.imgur./all/. Then add 'com' after dot following 'imgur'.

Why the Owner Chose Santa Cruz:
Initially it was an investment to help family, who were purchasing the surrounding property along with what was originally known as Sequoia Seminar which was a very special retreat center. Our home, along with other homes, cabins and lodges, was originally part of that retreat, and our house was known as 'Activity House'. After updating the house, we realized how much we loved the Santa Cruz Mountains, and our little section of the acreage is considered to have the most beautiful view, with a patch of sun shining through the trees, onto our property. The retreat center is up the path from us, but you would never know by the quiet. We can stay with family who live close to the property or in one of their many, quiet cabins, but there was something extremely special about our location, that prompted us to continue owning the house, even though we were no longer needed. Every visit is a new discovery of the surrounding area. Davenport Beach, up the road, is a large, beautiful, secluded beach. There's hardly ever anyone there. There's whale watching, large, prehistoric-looking pelicans flying in formation just above the ocean, and the amount of large starfish you find in the tide pools is almost humorous. World renowned wineries in Bonny Doon, right next door, a vast amount of antique shops along the towns in the San Lorenzo Valley, and then there's Loch Lomond, right around the corner. It never ceases to amaze us, what we find in the area. A very large, quiet, beautiful, uncrowded, placid lake in the middle of the forest...it was truly breath taking. I could go on...in just doing some research for this post, I came across Zayante Sandhills in Ben Lomond of all places...three animal species found NOWHERE else in the world!

The Unique Benefits at this House:
We are located in what is called a banana belt, enjoying warmer weather, especially in the winter, than the region as a whole. Very private, can sing and play guitar as loudly and as badly to the trees as you like. Someone not too long ago, literally wrote his book sitting right outside on our patio. In the middle of the quiet forest, yet so close to so many unique places, like: Henry Cowell State Park 3.0mi/4.8km S; Roaring Camp Railroad 3.0mi/4.8km S, Day Out with Thomas the Train on a train ride through the Big Trees; Loch Lomond Fishing and Kayaking 4.0mi/6.4km N, area’s best kept secret (paddle boats); Scotts Valley Golf Course 4.0mi/6.4km N; Pasatiempo Golf Club 7.0mi/11.3km N; Mystery Spot 9.0mi/14.5km N; Santa Cruz Art Museum 9.0mi/14.5km N; Boulder Creek Country Club 10.0mi/16.1km N; Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk (summer concert series) 10.0mi/16.1km S; Santa Cruz Symphony 10.0mi/16.1km N; Seymour Marine Discovery Center 10.0mi/16.1km N; Signature Theaters 10.0mi/16.1km N; Capitola Mall 12.0mi/19.3km S; Big Basin State Park 14.0mi/22.5km N; Great America Amusement Park 25.0mi/40.2km S; Winchester Mystery House 30.0mi/48.3km N; The Challenge Tennis Tournament) 32.0mi/51.5km S; Pebble Beach & Tennis Club 32.0mi/51.5km S; 17 Mile Drive - Carmel 40.0mi/64.4km S; Monterey Bay Aquarium 40.0mi/64.4km S; Laguna Seca Race Track 40.0mi/64.4km S, Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca: American Le Mans Series Monterey Presented by Patron; Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix Featuring the MotoGP World Championship; Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion, Pebble Beach Golf 40.0mi/64.4km S; Davenport Beach (secluded beach, whale watching, giant starfish, tide pools, low tide, pelicans) 14mi; UC Santa Cruz 12 mi; Shakespeare Festival, UCSC Performing Arts; Capitola Art & Wine Festival 8 mi.
