A 53 foot world class cruising sailing yacht, Bel Ami is the ultimate in comfort and safety, meeting all USCG safety standards. Spacious interiors, air-conditioned, all the convenience of home, includes a home theater with 53 by 37 inch screen and a great movie selection! The private master guest cabin is complete with ensuite bathroom with electroflush toilet and shower. 10 inch memory foam queen size mattress with cushioned surround! The forward guest cabin can accommadate another couple. There are two more single berths amid ship for a total of 6 berths. On deck you will find wide open spaces for sunbathing, rainbow watching, dancing or contemplating the stars.
Captain Dave Goodman fell in love with the Virgin Islands in 1977 and has been sailing here since. He has a USCG 100 ton Master’s Captain’s License. Born in Brooklyn, NY. Dave began sailing on Long Island Sound as a teenager. He went to the University of Wisconsin Madison for his undergraduate studies (B.A. Philosophy) and sailed extensively with the U.W. Hoofers. He graduated at the Bowman Gray School of Medicine in 1977 and did his first bareboat charter in the Virgin Islands for his graduation gift. What a gift it was! He was hooked! He married, had 3 children, moved back to Wisconsin, began racing Hobie Cats and sailing on the Great Lakes. He also has sailed in the Pacific Northwest(Seattle, Puget Sounds, San Juan Islands) The Med(French and Italian Riviera).
Captain Dave purchased Bel Ami in May of 2007, after semi-retiring from his busy Occupational Medicine consulting practice in Wisconsin. Bel Ami’s first home was St. Thomas, and for Captain Dave this was like going back to 1977 and falling in love with the islands all over again. He moved aboard, obtained his license from the U.S.V.I., and began consulting in the Virgin Islands. Since that time he has sailed Bel Ami extensively throughout the Spanish, American and British Virgin Islands, as well as the Bahamas in 2009-2010. For the summer of 2010, Captain Dave decided to take Bel Ami to explore the Caribbean Islands of the Lesser Antilles, including such places as St. Martin, Montserrat, Nevis, Dominica, Guadelupe, Martinique, Les Saintes, St. Lucia, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, and Grenada.
Many of these voyages have been solo as Bel Ami is designed with electronic controls for the sails, anchoring and so forth that permit safe and effective single-handed operation. Captain Dave loves to introduce people to his world of sailing and cruising the islands. If you are a sailor looking for your first bareboat experience, but would like to get a little more “Big Boat” experience under your belt, sailing the Bel Ami under Captain Dave’s guidance is just the ticket. Captain Dave loves to cook! He is also a PADI certified Advanced and Rescue scuba diver, enjoys snorkeling and swimming, fishing, and loves feeling the breeze in his face as Bel Ami catches the wind. Our week on Bel Ami was the grand finale of our three-week honeymoon, and by far the most memorable time. Captain Dave's friendly hospitality, ability to recommend things we might want to do or places to see, helped make a tailor-made holiday where every day was simply stunning. One of us, as a vegan, was particularly pleased to find not only a kindred spirit in Dave but also a great chef who consistently provided beautiful, tasty food (enjoyed by us both!). We still often wax lyrical about the mornings, especially: nothing beats waking up in a gently swaying cabin, walking on deck to survey the scene, and just jump into the clear turquoise waters for a fresh start to the day - followed by one of Dave's legendary morning smoothies.... You can go to really isolated places on a little boat like this: empty beaches, snorkelling in isolated places to see all kinds of wildlife; or, go to the local hotspots for nightlife to meet interesting people. This is a wholehearted recommendation. If you want a holiday that's completely tailored to you, and be waited on hand and foot if that's what you like, go on Bel Ami. Holiday of a lifetime.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, romantic getaway.

Sailing aboard Bel Ami with Captain Dave was great. My wife and I celebrated our wedding anniversary aboard Bel Ami, sailing into the Spanish Virgin Islands. Dave is a warm, talented, fun host and an expert at sailing. His local knowledge of the islands allowed us to really explore and experience the area. Bel Ami is a wonderfully comfortable boat with all the amenities of home. Dave is a great cook, with talent that range from Vegan to Carnivore (he cooked me a great steak!) We make our living on the water and we still can't wait to get back aboard Bel Ami and do some more sailing. 7 days just isn't enough!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Just wanted to thank you and Gail for making our time on your beautiful boat so wonderful. This adventure far exceeded my expectations. It was a perfect mix of exciting adventure, astounding beauty, perfect weather, great sailing, good company, island magic, crazy fun night life, and yummy food and drink. The accommodations were spectacular!! Bel Ami is a beautiful girl!! Thank you again for all you each did to make this truly a memorable trip. The week we had (us three gals) on the Bel Ami was unforgetable. It felt as if we were children (kinda like Peter Pan) sailing from cove to cove. We never knew what was ahead. The captain knew the seas and the shores. We ventured out to explore places where "no woman has gone before". It was magical to say the least. If we mentioned that we might want to try a cove/inlet to snorkel he was ready to fulfill our wishes. It was a wonderful time....a time to let the child in us let loose and enjoy all that was out there. My memories of the experience will last me a life time though we hope to reconstruct the journey in the future.Recommended for: Age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Three women who had sailed SVI prior, we hoped to repeat a wonderful adventure; Captain Dave gave us more than we had hoped for: beautiful weather, pleasant to edgy sailing, instruction/hours of hands-on at the helm, trust in our captain and his mastery of the ins/outs of Bel Ami, new/off-the-beaten-path routes/anchorages . . . snorkeling, a comfortable 'home' that seemed to love the wind/water, good food/drink . . . in addition to great film/music selections. To top all of this off, we had a great time with Dave personally; we found that we needn't have been concerned about adding testosterone to the boat; we worked/played together beautifully! (I would suggest that one consider wearing a wet-suit this time of year for snorkeling; the water has been cooler than anticipated during both of our sails to SVI.)Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

Wow, The Food, captain is a great cook! Sailing from island to island, the wonderful snorkeling, being able to go secluded spots or go to famous sites like the Baths. What Freedom! To explore the Islands. Our trip was everything the property advertises and more. My stay on the Bel Ami was a wonderful experience. The week was full of new and exciting experiences for me - from the snorkeling at all of David's favorite spots, the exquisite meals that David prepares daily, the fun beach locations with great entertainment that we went to in the evenings, to just lolling around on the deck of the Bel Ami enjoying the sun and beautiful sea that we were floating on. Captain Dave is very helpful and considerate in planning the trip especially with meal planning and making sure you get a good sample of life is the Virgin Islands.The vessel is very clean and comfortable.I would highly recommend his charter and hope to do it again myself someday.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, girls getaway.

This was a great vacation! I found it on VRBO, and the listing description was very accurate. The photos on the VRBO site gave a nice picture of Bel Ami. The yacht was very clean and well maintained--5 stars for that! Captain Dave answered all our questions and concerns with his knowledge of the sailing area. I would definitely recommend this property to a friend or relative. This was one of the best vacation experiences I have ever had! Lobster is one of my favorite meals, and Captain Dave took us to Anegada, where we feasted on lobster for several meals. YUMMMMY! Thank You Bel Ami and Captain Dave!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We just returned from a week on the Belami. Captain Dave is an amazing captain. He knows where to go based on what you want to do and see. He has many recommendations and lays them all out and leaves the itinerary up to you to decide (He is very flexible!). In one ambitious day we snorkeled The Indians, The Caves and The RHONE and then set sail sail to our next destination. Another day, we anchored at one spot, went ashore by dingy, found a prettier spot and Captain Dave left us at the bar and MOVED THE BOAT for us! He was a great snorkel guide, pointing out things we would have never seen. Same for hikes! We opted for the full board package and did not regret it. It was fun eating our meals on the boat. Dave makes a tasty shrimp cocktail and a mean margarita! If you are lucky if he will take out his Accordian and play you a tune.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Just fantastic! We had a larger group, two couples plus two single ladies. Captain Dave happily accommodated all of us, and never once complained about having to sleep in a hammock on deck under the stars. :-) We sailed for 5 days near St. Thomas and St. John, and anchored at different beautiful, exotic, island bay very night - which were all (to my surprise and delight) very calm. Some of the unforgettable memories include: snorkeling in the caves near The Indians, dancing and partying on (and watching some of the crazy people get naked and dive off the rear of) the Willy T, fantastic dinners cooked by our very own Captain Dave, turning the dingy into a bar and sitting in the water off a beach and drinking and telling jokes, and on the last night Captain Dave played his accordion as one of us sang along. The Bel Ami is a gorgeous boat, but it’s her captain – very knowledgeable, talented, unassuming, flexible, and goes out of his way – that makes the whole experience unforgettable!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

It has been my lifelong dream to live on a sailboat and sail the world's oceans. I have sailed extensively throughout the Bahamas and east Caribbean, from Bimini to Grenada, and look forward to eventually sailing the Pacific. For now, sharing the joy of my sailing experience with others gets me up in the morning! I purchased Bel Ami because she is a world class cruising sailboat. She is uniquely designed with electronic sail controls, bowthruster, and modern navigational equipment. She also has ocean going safety equipment including liferaft, emergency beacon, and man overboard equipment. Finally, in 2012 a new dingy was purchased with a new engine. Nothing like the smell of a new family car!
