Fantastic Fourth of July
Fantastic Fourth of July

This was our first trip to Cape Charles and the Sunshine Cottage, but it most certainly will not be our last. We arrived on Friday, June 29th, and were greeted by a cozy house that Hank and Sandy took the time to make sure would be well provisioned. The house was clean, well maintained, and was situated in a perfect place in Cape Charles. We especially liked the eat in large kitched area and the enclosed back yard where I spent a lot of time grilling. Sandy and Hank had recommended the additional fee to add a golf cart and we could not be more pleased that we took advantage of this offer. We were able to get about the area and enjoyed just parking our vehicle and never moving it after our arrival. The town of Cape Charles is a beautiful town that encompases both early Americanna with the modern amenities of today. The town put on a July Fourth bash that we enjoyed from sunrise to the beautiful fireworks show at sunset. There are several things in Cape charles I would recommend. Kelly's Gingernut Pub was excellent and has live music Friday and saturday evenings...plenty of on tap choices and a great atmosphere being located in the old town bank. Gull Hummock Gourmet Market has a great wine tasting menu with owners who are very knowledgable and they also offer fantastic house made chocolates, plus artisanal beers, wines and cheeses from around the world. Rayfields Pharmacy has great milkshakes, Brown Dog Ice Cream has really good ice cream and several neat flavor offereings, Watsons Hardware contains many odds and ends for your shopping delite. For the Golfer in the lot, I would strongly recommend Bay Creek, especially the Jack Nicholas layout which contains breathtaking views as it winds around the Bay. The Miss Jennifer is a fishing boat we took an evening fishing expedition on...the service was very friendly and the price very reasonable for a three hour tour. There are several restuarants in town and the surrounding area. Of course lets not forget the 7 blocks of beach area. Very clean beach with a pier that juts out into the bay for both fishing and sunset watching. We have a dog and I must say that besides the house being Pet friendly ( including enclosed back yard ) the whole town is pet friendly with many shops having water bowls outside for the occasional doggie passing by. All in all I would recommend this property and the town to all and in fact have been doing nothing but talking about our stay to family and friends since our return home.Owner response: Thank you sincerely for the wonderful review. You were our first week long guests and it was a pleasure to have such pleasant people who love our town as much as we do. Keep comin' back. Hope to see you next year!

Year Purchased: 2012
About the owner: We arrived in Cape Charles about four years ago and fell in love with it's friendly atmosphere, beautiful homes and lovely residents. We purchased and renovated one of the beautiful historic homes on Bay Avenue and turned it into our third bed and breakfast in twelve years (Chesapeake Bay View). This year we added a cottage rental to accommodate families with young children and their canine friends. It has a great location and is a quick walk to shops and the beach.
Why the Owner Chose Cape Charles:
The cottage has a wonderful history. It was owned by a local mail carrier who had been raised in an historic old Victorian house that was previously located on this site. He was a graduate of William and Mary College but chose the simple life of working for the Post Office. Upon inheriting the house, he tore it down and built the current one floor cottage to meet his personal needs. His passion was coin collecting, and on his death the huge coin collection was donated to a local church.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Everything is new! There is a brand new stove, dishwasher, washer and dryer, central air, refrigerator and grill. There is WiFi and a new cable TV. We offer a golf cart package that includes a 4 passenger golf cart for your weekly stay, or a special occasion package with 6 tickets for a sunset dolphin cruise on the Miss Jennifer and a cake or flowers your choice.
