Including a large vintage saloon bar and stools facing the kitchen, parlor dining table, large screen TV, fully appointed gourmet kitchen, great room with fireplace and overstuffed leather couches, decorated with antiques. The huge covered deck has four sets of French doors leading from the upper level rooms and runs along the length of the lodge, contains a barbecue, and affords views of the mountains, lake, sunrise, and sunset.
The Master king-sized bedroom and bath en suite also features a set of French doors leading onto the covered porch. It is decorated in a hand-carved one of a kind set of western furniture. The queen-sized “Honeymoon” and “Monty Montana” Bedrooms share a full bath and are decorated with vintage items representing the theme of these rooms. Finally there is a clerestory loft overlooking the great room that sleeps 4 kids, cousins or slumber party groups!
The Main Lodge lower level has four bedrooms four en suite baths, kitchen and media room.

They are the Woodcarver, Native American, Adirondack and Grandparent’s bedrooms. The lower level also features a media room with fireplace and movie posters of all the films made in the Wet Valley. There is also a huge collection of VHS and DVD films. The media room has two queen-sized hide-a-bed couches. Finally, we added a full kitchen downstairs in case you wish to cook a lot or rent the downstairs separately.
Construction has begun on the three-story lookout tower, the Little Bear’s Lair downstairs will be a classic Colorado bunkhouse with sleeping area for kids, upstairs will be a sitting area and on the third floor a large outdoor deck. It will be adjacent to the Main Lodge with access to the lakeside picnic area, meeting/recreation room and campfire bowl. Lake views and stunning views of the mountains complete the picture. We cannot guarantee when the tower will be complete but we hope to have an observation platform ready for viewing-only in summer of 2013. Once complete, it will be available for rental and the views are spectacular 360 degree panoramas of the Sangres, the lake and the sunset. Great for photographers and bird watchers.
We love Westcliffe so much, we are building the tower so that we can come down when we need to get away. It is so peaceful and beautiful there that there are few places like it in the world.
The Lakeshore Conference/Recreation Room is located just steps from the Main Lodge. It has 60 feet of doors that open up to the water to make it a boat house, recreation room, conference room or reception room. There is a large 1,800 sf. of space that includes two bathrooms, kitchen, fireplace, ping pong and air hockey.
All of this can be yours for one convenient daily flat rate that includes up to 25 people living on the property. As an example of how our daily flat rate pricing works: If your group has 25 people, with a daily flat rate of $800, the cost per person/per night would come to only $32 per day. CALL ABOUT SPECIAL PRICING FOR SMALLER GROUPS.

Each of the buildings face west and take in views of many of the stunning Colorado Fourteener's-14,000 foot peaks of one of Colorado's most beautiful mountain ranges, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. (In fact, there are 22 peaks over 13,000 feet in our view.)

We had three generations and had a wonderful time at the house. Thank you so much for opening it to us and making it so much fun. The grandkids had the run of the place and just loved the hot tub. We were lucky to be at the Lodge in the Spring. We had so much fun watching all the wildlife and we appreciated that you care about the environment. We used to have a cabin and for us, this was like coming home again. We can't thank you enough for all your help making our arrival easy and for leaving us all the spices so that we didn't have to buy them.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed here over New Years and found the place to be better than the pictures and description led on. Had a little trouble getting the front door open, but once inside it was really nice. Everything was clean and ready to go, the only main issue we had was getting the heat to work. It said it was on 70 on the thermostat, but most of us could not take our jackets off or socks as it was too cold - granted it was 10 below outside that day, but still, we couldn't get "heat' on in the house it seemed so we built big fires which helped a lot. Once we had fires it was great! Hot tub was nice and everythign was as described. The master bedroom door, however did not close (had to put a chair behind it, which we didn't really mind doing). Private, peaceful, seems like it would be a great place in the summer and we would return.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, romantic getaway, sightseeing, adventure seekers.

We stayed at the Lodge during the winter when there was snow on the ground and the lake was frozen solid. Our grandkids were fascinated by the ice fishermen and we liked watching them so much we rented the films "Grumpy Old Men" and "Grumpier Old Men"-two classic comedies and a great time to introduce the grandkids to some of Hollywood's greatest actors. Imagine snowflakes, Jack Frost, clear starry nights, piping hot chocolate and roaring fires. How wonderful to leave the distractions of the world behind to plan and make meals together, take walks, play games, nap and stare at the flames. The beds are good, the appliances all work. I helped myself to books, magazines, we popped some popcorn.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

I think there's nothing better than being at the lake on a long summer's afternoon. This place was fantastic and we are really glad to have stayed here. The place was very large and there were so many different things to do that we really had a great time. There were some cobwebs and dust in some of the corners but I didn't spend much time in corners or windowsills so I didn't have any problem with it. I can see how someone expecting to dine off every surface might be a little disappointed but come on- this is a lakeside lodge sitting at the end of a beautiful valley with an incredible mountain range on one side of the house and a set of beautiful rocky hills on the other. It's a huge hangout with an incredible deck for barbecuing and awesome living room for enjoying a fire in the evenings. If you belong in the mountains and love the outdoors then you belong here. Don't sweat the small stuff and you'll really be glad you came here. By the way the owner is really great. A neat old guy who's obviously eager to please. Any questions or concerns we had were dealt with almost immediately. The owner and his family built this place by themselves and it's obviously been lovingly kept.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, girls getaway.

Spent Fourth of July Weekend here with the family. Close enough to town but far enough to feel on our own. Loved that there was some things already there to avoid re-buying things in town. Loved the lake access and mountain views. The hot tub was fantastic and nothing beats a lightning storm out those huge picture windows. Loved it and will definitely return.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, girls getaway.

The owner was able to squeeze my party in for 5 days on a last minute arrangement. They were very helpful and it was clear they cared a lot about making us happy. We arrived late at night in a snow storm and it was very nice to find plenty of wood waiting for us by the fireplace. The rest of the house was just as cozy, and it was easy to settle in. The place is quite large and there's plenty of space to spread out and get comfy. The weather was cold and snowy the first few says so we pretty much stayed inside and just enjoyed the lodge and each other's company. After that the weather cleared and we spent a lot of time walking around the lake and even did some fishing in some non-iced over spots. We really just loved the place and really just were able to relax and actually really enjoy our vacation instead of focusing travel plans and logistics. I will say that my brother in law complained that he found cobwebs around and that everything wasn't operating-room clean. As far as the rest of my group and I are concerned this place was really special. The property is so large and there are so many different amenities and spaces that we couldn't possibly waste any time worrying that is wasn't the Ritz. Bottom line: If you want a really spectacular mountain lodge to enjoy being with a group of friends and family in a location like no other then stay here. If you want to feel like you're staying in a $1000 a night place that is half as big in some suburb and maintained by a squadron of OCD maids (as my brother-in law said he'd prefer) then definitely don't stay here.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, girls getaway.

we could agree with Barb from Sacramento...June 2012. We could have written her first paragraph ourselves. We came from 3 diff. states to stay 6 nights. We arrived on Easter Sunday and spent the whole day cleaning. We had to wash all the flatware ( & tray ), dishware, pots & pans, etc. before we could use them. The refrigerator was dirty and full of foodstuffs we had to move in order to use it. We had no place except counter top to put our groceries due to pantry being full of food ( some expired ) . There was one bed that had filthy sheets on it, bathroom rugs that were dirty, cobwebs in every corner all over the property, dirty dishtowels, dirty oven mits, dust covered all surfaces including TV, etc. The " conference center" reeked of mildew. We only used it to shower or wash clothes because of a lack of hot water in the house. We would not use the hot tub at all. It was not turned on when we got there and took a couple of days to heat up, but by then we had thought better of it. The outside was covered with piles of junk, ciggarette butts, trash, unmowed landscape. The inside of the house has several rugs which were so dirty they turned socks black. fireplace was full of ashes, door pane was broken, door would not lock to outside in kitchen. Our last night there we found a live snake in the downstairs area. I could go on but I believe I have made my point. I will say we did not call the owners because we saw no point in it. Where would 13 people go and stay while 'things" were taken care of ? We have used the VRBO 3 other times and have not experienced this type of problem.Owner response: Our cleaning lady called us very upset after these folks left because of the way they left the house and the damage to a piece of furniture. Please folks, this is a rustic lake lodge with a very reasonable price and a very fun, spacious, clean gathering place for family and friends. We have 8 bathrooms and 7 bedrooms. The property is a wonderful value for the right kind of folks. We want families who are not expecting something for nothing. We charge $250 to clean the entire place. This includes, clean linens, towels, vacuum, dusting and cleaning all the bathrooms and 3 kitchens. We cannot clean all the rugs after each visit. This is a wildlife habitat. We tell you in our listing that we leave the grass as habitat. The reason there is debris is because we are building a new structure. A three story tower for your use. We keep it contained to the building site. These folks were really stretching for something to criticize. All I can say is that we want people to have fun and enjoy themselves. We love it there. If you don't call us, we can't make it right or fix it. The one thing I can confirm is that one of our back up water heaters froze, but we didn't know so we could not fix it or address the problem. What a shame that they spent their entire vacation miserable. Please-if you have ever had a mountain cabin or retreat, you will love us. If you expect the Ritz for the price we charge, go there instead, we can't compete. We will provide you a wonderful time with great value.

My family and I have been visiting Westcliffe and staying at this cabin for 3 years now. We have small children and truly love that all bedrooms have a private bath. This last trip out was later in the season so the Lake was drained however we were still able to enjoy walks and a campfire at night. It's a very comfortable, accessable and cozy place to stay.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, pet owners, girls getaway.

What a wonderful little slice of cowboy heaven! With rentals there is always the risk of your arriving at a home not at all similar to the one in the picture; delightfully not so with this one! What you see is really what you get. The house decor has a rustic elegance about it, but with its own unique flair. We loved the old vintage cowboy memorabilia and pictures. It really gives the place a home-y feel and not your typical "rental property left over furniture" feel. It's certainly spacious- we enjoyed having our own personal space, but still having common areas to gather as a group. I have to admit, I wasn't sure of how the of the pool and "conference" room fit in with the property. However, it got you out of the house, and offered you an easy way to relax, and keep the kids busy- but in view! We had a great time here, and look forward to our next tripRecommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, age 55+, girls getaway.

This was my 3rd stay at this amazing cabin just outside of Westcliffe,CO. The owners have gone the extra mile to make their cabin a renter’s dream.. So much attention has been given to this beautiful vacation home both on the inside and outside. You must come here to see it for yourself. This is the place to go if you are looking for a unique family vacation. Plus, it will hold a ton of people! The mountain views are breathtaking. That, along with the lake make it a place to truly relax. I can't wait for my next trip to this wonderful place.Recommended for: Families with young children, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, adventure seekers.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1992
About the owner: We are a family of four who have grown to a family of 10 when we include our married children and grandchildren. All our children and grandchildren have worked for us in our nearby businesses. We specialize in operating businesses that lose money. (Just testing to see if you are reading.) One of our hobbies is renovating buildings. This lodge is one of those hobbies. Just 2 hours from Colorado Springs, this lodge is our refuge and reward for all our hard work. We absolutely love it here because it is a place of complete tranquility and peace. We love gathering with family and friends and realized it would be a perfect meeting place after sharing holidays with up to 30 of our extended family here in Colorado. In the days of the Spanish Conquistadores the valley was known as La Mojada-the “Wet One”. Today the Wet Valley is part of a Scenic Byway-Frontier Pathway with over 323 days of sunshine. “La Mojada”, Custer County, Westcliffe, Colorado, Sangre de Cristos-whatever name you use for this place, all of them conjure up the time and spirit of the Old West. With a history of silver, gold and cattle ranching-where such names as Bull Domingo Ranch are part of the local color, the Lakeshore Lodge on Lake DeWeese in Westcliffe, Colorado stands apart from the rest. When our family came to Colorado over forty years ago, we were searching for a weekend retreat large enough to shelter our family and all the grand children we hoped to have someday. We looked for a place of comfort and quiet close enough to drive after a long week running our family business. We found it in Westcliffe and over the years we have saved and built and created a place with our own hands. A place we think of as just about the most beautiful and most restful in our beloved Colorado. Today we are blessed-better than we deserve-all together there are 21 of us, give or take a few friends some of the grandchildren are always asking to bring.
Why the Owner Chose Westcliffe:
“Simple Pleasures-Profound Peace” It has seemed too good to be true that our beloved “Wet Valley” has changed so little over time. We watched the others –Aspen, Vail, Telluride- all change beyond recognition. Not our Westcliffe. With all of its beauty, the biggest change has been the designation of our lake as a state wildlife reserve and the area as a Frontier Pathway-Scenic Byway ensuring they remain unchanged in perpetuity. Westcliffe is known as the place where successful people come to be regular Joe’s. That sums it up. Nobody puts on airs in Westcliffe. If you did, you would be treated politely and then forgotten as part of the world that just doesn’t “get” it. Remember what “It” was in the Billy Crystal movie “City Slickers”? If you get “It”, if you understand what is important in life- hard work, playing hard and the love of friends and family, then you will “get” Westcliffe and come to think of it as part of your family history. We chose to purchase the property in Westcliffe because there are only 3 houses on this lake that own their own land and waterfront. We knew that this would always be so because the Lake has now been closed to further development and designated as a state wildlife refuge. Its proximity to Cripple Creek sold us on the place because it was close enough to use on weekends. Finally, Westcliffe is simply one of the most beautiful spots in Colorado! Although there are some cabins near the lake, there are only three families that own their land and beach on the entire lake and therefore you do not have to share our beach with anyone.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
We enjoy all of the fruits of the valley when shopping for fresh produce and meats. We like to cook family meals outdoors, take long walks, swim in the lake, fish and swim in the pool. We also enjoy family game nights. Simple and satisfying. Gather together easily in 7 bedrooms, 6 baths, 2 kitchens, a great room, media room and loft where all the cousins like to sleep in one big room with a 360-degree view. Down at the Lake Meeting/Recreation House there are over 150 ft of waterfront, kayaks and paddle boats for exploring the 10 miles of shoreline or trolling for fish. There’s an extra commercial kitchen for large groups and catering, 2 full restrooms with showers, a fireplace, pool/ping pong table and a few vintage arcade games the kids have collected over the years. (We’ve even been known to banish the personal electronics and engage the grandchildren in spirited board games or the excitement of our collection of vintage jigsaw puzzles!) Once the stars come out, strike up the fiddle or unroll your projector screen. We’ve created an outdoor amphitheater perfect for campfire programs, outdoor movies or singing songs under the stars.
