This is the Colorado of my childhood in the '70's.
Westcliffe is a sleepy Colorado mountain town. The valley is famous for its cattle ranches. Increasingly, we have charming Amish buggies on the roads driven by families who have moved into the valley because of its fertile fields and wide-open spaces.
If you really want a vacation/ a stress-reliever/ a family reunion of reuniting/ a conference of concentration-this is the place.
Best of all, no huge credit card bills when you get home. ICE FISHERMEN! This is Nirvana. Your ice hut is a mansion.
Rent a lakeside lodge in the beautiful Westcliffe Valley ringed by the Sangre de Christo Mountains of Colorado. This well-appointed lodge will become yours for any type of group gathering, family reunion, corporate retreat or destination wedding. A great value and affordable gathering place for any type of event.
Lakeside Lodge consists of Main Lodge, Lakeside Meeting/Recreation Room, Campfire Bowl and Lakeside with direct views of the 10 miles of shoreline and views of the the Sangre de Cristo Mountain Range. Includes covered outdoor deck, picnic area, outdoor campfire bowl, game and meating room, media room and extra kitchen/catering facilities in Lakeside Meeting/Recreation Room. Open NOW is an 8-person glass -enclosed hot tub at the Conference Center and a glass enclosed outdoor plunge pool and deck with event grill for outdoor patio meals. The pool is currently not heated but will be heated by summer of 2014.
With houses scattered in the distance, our lodge is one of only three properties with lakeside ownership. Therefore, the shoreline is very quiet and there is lots of open space.
The Main Lodge:
Upper level: Master with en suite bath, two bedrooms with shared bath, great room, kitchen, dining room and loft scattered with futons for children who like to sleep with the folks nearby but have their own clubhouse-like level open to the main living room below.
Included in the main lodge upper level are a large vintage saloon bar and stools facing the kitchen, parlor dining table, large screen TV, fully appointed kitchen, great room with fireplace and overstuffed leather couches, decorated with antiques. The huge covered deck has four sets of French doors leading from the upper level rooms and runs along the length of the lodge, contains outdoor table and a dinner bell, and affords views of the mountains, lake, sunrise, and sunset.
The Master king-sized bedroom and bath en suite also features a set of French doors leading onto the covered porch. It is decorated in a hand-carved one of a kind set of western furniture. The queen-sized “Honeymoon” and “Monty Montana” Bedrooms share a full bath and are decorated with vintage items representing the theme of these rooms. Finally there is a clerestory loft overlooking the great room that sleeps 4 kids, cousins or slumber party groups!
The Main Lodge lower level has four bedrooms four en suite baths, separate kitchen and a media room with two hide-a-beds.
Three of the downstairs bedrooms have views of the lake and covered porches with private doors leading outside to the lake. Each of the four bedrooms has its own private bath. They are the Woodcarver, Native American, Adirondack and Grandparent’s bedrooms. The lower level also features a media room with fireplace and movie posters of all the films made in the Wet Valley. There is also a huge collection of VHS and DVD films. The media room has two queen-sized hide-a-bed couches. Finally, we added a full kitchen downstairs in case you wish to cook a lot or rent the downstairs separately.
Construction is complete on the four-story lookout tower, the Little Bear’s Lair-a classic Colorado bunkhouse with sleeping areas on the first and second floors. There is a full bath on the first and second floors. Upstairs is a sitting area and on the third floor and above on the fourth floor, a large outdoor deck. It is adjacent to the Main Lodge with access to the lakeside picnic area, meeting/recreation room and campfire bowl. Lake views and stunning views of the mountains complete the picture. Available for rental now. The views are spectacular 360 degree panoramas of the Sangres, the lake and the sunset. Great for photographers and bird watchers.
We love Westcliffe so much, we are building the tower so that we can come down when we need to get away. It is so peaceful and beautiful there that there are few places like it in the world.
The Lakeshore Conference/Recreation Room is located just steps from the Main Lodge. It has 60 feet of doors that open up to the water to make it a boat house, recreation room, conference room or reception room. There is a large 1,800 sf. of space that includes two bathrooms, kitchen, fireplace, ping pong and air hockey.
All of this can be yours for one convenient daily flat rate that includes 25-40 people living on the property. As an example of how our daily flat rate pricing works: If your group has 25 people, with a daily flat rate of $800, the cost per person/per night would come to only $32 per day. CALL ABOUT SPECIAL PRICING FOR SMALLER GROUPS.
THE LAKESHORE LODGE AT LAKE DEWEESE is located in the beautiful Wet Mountain Valley in south/central Colorado only two and 1/2 hours from Denver or 1 hour and 45 minutes from Colorado Springs, two and one-quarter hours from Taos, New Mexico, and features a fine dry climate (325 days of sunshine) at about 7,000 ft elevation.
Each of the buildings face west and take in views of many of the stunning Colorado Fourteener's-14,000 foot peaks of one of Colorado's most beautiful mountain ranges, the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. (In fact, there are 22 peaks over 13,000 feet in our view.)
Rent THE LAKESHORE LODGE AT LAKE DEWEESE for your next group gathering whether it is a family reunion, special gathering of friends, corporate planning meeting, destination wedding, or simply because you love it.
When you rent THE LAKESHORE LODGE AT LAKE DEWEESE, you take over the property like you would a beach house. We give you the keys and you 'live it like it's yours' during your rental stay.
The tower bunkhouse is still available to rent separately!
Our favorite guests are folks who like rustic mountain cabins, love wildlife, campfires and low-key vacations. Understand that manicured lawns with non-native flower beds are NOT part of a wildlife refuge. This is not a place if you don't understand that birds need grass seeds and bugs to eat. This is not the place for you if you are not charmed by our muskrats feeding at sunset or a harmless gopher snake. This is not the place for you if you need a sanitized Disneyland. The lodge is clean, comfortable and cozy. It is our home-not a hotel. You will have everything our family wants in a vacation rental. Believe me, we have spared no expense for a charming mountain lodge and we do not want to take away its rustic feel. We have tried our very best to balance comfort and amenities with affordability so that this would be a place that families like to come and to stay and return to again and again.
We keep our rates low if you consider that our high-season summer rates are approximately $100 per bedroom. If you can find even a Comfort Inn, with that rate, you will be doing well. You will not get fields, a private lakefront, paddle boats, kayaks, barbecues, fireplaces at a Comfort Inn. At $100 per room, you can have extra people and families can afford to get together for family reunions.

I stayed at this lodge recently and had a great experience. The lodge is very neat, well kept, and has any and all amenities you can think of. Its great for hosting a big group and the pool is a fun place to relax during those hot summer days. I would highly recommend this lodge to anybody visiting WestCliffe.

We Loved the Place!
Lois, I wanted to write you after reading your guest review from Kansas-that was so unfair! We stayed at your place in June and we had an absolutely wonderful time. We had a huge group but you knew we were coming and we knew what to expect. As outdoor people, the hiking, fishing and birdwatching are unsurpassed! Can't wait to add some rock climbing next time. The long lazy dinners cooked together in the kitchen, the floats in the lake, the tiptoeing down to the hot tub at night in the starlight. All of it was wonderful. We even loved the bug zappers! It never ceases to amaze me that there are so many people who want the Ritz in an outdoor experience, who would poison the water and the fishes because of their own selfishness. Please know that there are many of us who appreciate the Lodge and look forward to a return soon.

Don't let one bad apple spoil the bunch!
I would be happy to write a positive review of our stay at your beautiful home. It only takes one bad apple to spoil the whole bunch but please don't get discouraged. You have a genuine, "old Colorado" type living environment which was so much fun for some of us coming from both the east and west coast. You are providing a wonderful service and experience for large group situations. Never give up and don't let the complainers ruin your joy...they, have a problem...not you.

Loved our stay!
Loved our stay!
We want to thank you for allowing us to occupy your beautiful lake house for our family reunion. Everyone really enjoyed themselves and loved staying at the house. All of the Adult couples had their own bedroom and bathroom. The children slept in the loft area and the young adults stayed in the conference center with plenty of couches and pullout beds. It also had 2 full bathrooms. There was an abundance of sheets, blankets, and pillows. Clean and comfortable for all. Everyone enjoyed the lake for fishing and paddle boating. The children couldn’t get out of the water! They loved the swimming pool and hot tub. The double deck on the lake front side of the home was wonderful. Plenty of seating and tables to relax and enjoy the beautiful lake view. The commercial kitchen was perfect for our large group and had enough tables for everyone to sit comfortably together. Having three kitchens was so helpful because we had a vegetarian family and they were able to prepare their food in a separate kitchen. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, condiments, and basic ingredients which was a pleasant and unexpected surprise. The gas grills got plenty of use during our stay. Grandma enjoyed her 90th birthday celebration, and the conference room was the perfect place to have her party. The conference room had ping pong, air hockey, table games, and a diverse selection of video’s and DVD’s. Many are making plans for the next time . . . we really enjoyed the comfort and amenities of your beautiful home on Lake Deweese! You have a genuine, "old Colorado" type living environment which was so much fun for some of us coming from both the east and west coast. You are providing a wonderful service and experience for large group situations.

Family get together. About 31 of us. Our Mother's 80th bday.. The day we got there, the owners Dad was there working on the Hot tub and weedeating. It all should have been done before we got there. My thought. Anyway we open the front door and right there we could not believe all the clutter, the cobwebs, dead bugs, trash cans with dirty diapers, beer cans, dead cat on the grounds and the smell was so bad it had been there for awhile. The rugs need vac, ect. Needless to say we spent the day cleaning. Dead bugs in the tub, dust everywhere. We had to move everything in the kitchen just to be able to put our things in there. The refigerator had so much other stuff in it. It was not cold when we got there, the ice maker did not work. We lost food in the down stairs one because the door would not close right. What fun is that if you have to clean the place that you pay to rent before you fell comfortable using it. Hot Tub had lots of sand in it they said we where told that ,but we were not informed of. Not much hot water. Kitchen doors did not lock. Broken faucets in the bathroom. The pool water was so cold we could not use it. I'm not sure if they filled it that day or not. We had to pay extral for the hot tub and pool for which we did not use them. We did talk to the owners Dad that day he was there but the only thing he said was he could give us our money back. Not very friendly. Not very Honest. They make it sound we lied about everything. I'm thinking we have 31 guess coming.... Really!!!!!! Where would we go! For not having hot water we were told some one shut off the valve. No one in our party did that we did not have hot water from the very start. We had one towel and one wash cloth each. we where there from July 25th thur 30th. So we had to do lots of laundry while we where there. We had people stopping in to ask to us the restroom and people would just walk in and want to know about the place. We had to lock the front door to keep people from coming in. I guess they though it was a open lodge. When we did get settle in we had a good time visting with the family and boating and paddle boats, fishing, the bombfires was great. But if you would ask me if I would come back I would say NO... Sorry that's just how I feel about the place. Kansas girl..

Lakeside lodge with activities for all ages
Lakeside lodge with activities for all ages
My family of 19 members, ranging from age 1 to 72, stayed at the lodge to celebrate our mom's 70th birthday. The teenagers kept busy with indoor activities like ping pong, air hockey, playing cards and relaxing in the hot tub in the spacious rec room for the first couple days of our stay, since the weather happened to be cold and windy. When it warmed up they had a great time on the lake with the paddle boats. The little ones had fun playing with an assortment of toys and dump trucks that were there for them. It was those unexpected homey touches that made it enjoyable for everyone. We never felt like we were crowded on top of each other, and each of us had separate bathrooms which was really a plus. The owners were so nice and helpful, and made sure we had everything we needed. Multiple kitchens made it easy to prepare meals for our large group. We would recommend this lodge to other families and would stay again ourselves.

Hi! I have been so busy since we left the Westcliffe house that I haven't had the chance to say how wonderful of a time we all had there! The house was just great, and the property was beautiful! I wanted to sign a guest book, but didn't see one! I will go leave a review online of how awesome the place is! One of my friend's that came up said there was a review someone left that there were cobwebs and the place was dirty! That is just silly! Everything was clean and nice and well stocked! Also, the builders you have working on the new addition were so nice and helpful! They helped us hang a sign and asked us before they turned any power tools on if it would be okay if they made noise for a minute. They let us know when they were leaving too and wanted to make sure we didn't need anything. The only part I was a little sad about was that there was no water in the pool. I know it's still pretty cold in May, but I had to jump in something so I jumped in the lake! I have a feeling the pool would have been slightly warmer :) But the hot tub was awesome! And so was the game room! One thing we all liked too was the magnetic door screen from the kitchen to the porch. We all want one now and I got one from home depot that is not as good! I think the one you had up had snaps that held it in place? Do you remember where you got this or what brand it is? My friends and I would love to know! We will definitely plan another trip there again! Thanks for the hospitiality!

> "We stayed at the Lodge for my birthday this past weekend with a bunch of friends. The snow had melted, the robins were out and all the rabbits were hoping around munching grass. The weather was beautiful. I think that the people who were disappointed did not have the benefit of the spring clean-up the owners had just performed. There is a lot of wind in the late winter and that wind blows plastic into the yard. By the time we got there, the yard had been entirely picked up and some new plants and rock landscaping were installed. The windows had been washed by a professional window washer. The brush had been trimmed, the woodpile was full and they are nearing completion of their new four-story tower. We can't wait for our next opportunity to go to the Lodge."

We had three generations and had a wonderful time at the house. Thank you so much for opening it to us and making it so much fun. The grandkids had the run of the place and just loved the hot tub. We were lucky to be at the Lodge in the Spring. We had so much fun watching all the wildlife and we appreciated that you care about the environment. We used to have a cabin and for us, this was like coming home again. We can't thank you enough for all your help making our arrival easy and for leaving us all the spices so that we didn't have to buy them.

Perfect getaway for a large crowd
Perfect getaway for a large crowd
We stayed here over New Years and found the place to be better than the pictures and description led on. Had a little trouble getting the front door open, but once inside it was really nice. Everything was clean and ready to go, the only main issue we had was getting the heat to work. It said it was on 70 on the thermostat, but most of us could not take our jackets off or socks as it was too cold - granted it was 10 below outside that day, but still, we couldn't get "heat' on in the house it seemed so we built big fires which helped a lot. Once we had fires it was great! Hot tub was nice and everythign was as described. The master bedroom door, however did not close (had to put a chair behind it, which we didn't really mind doing). Private, peaceful, seems like it would be a great place in the summer and we would return.

About the owner: We are a family of four who have grown to a family of 10 when we include our married children and grandchildren. All our children and grandchildren have worked for us in our nearby businesses. We specialize in operating businesses that lose money. (Just testing to see if you are reading.) One of our hobbies is renovating buildings. This lodge is one of those hobbies. Just 2 hours from Colorado Springs, this lodge is our refuge and reward for all our hard work. We absolutely love it here because it is a place of complete tranquility and peace. We love gathering with family and friends and realized it would be a perfect meeting place after sharing holidays with up to 30 of our extended family here in Colorado. In the days of the Spanish Conquistadores the valley was known as La Mojada-the “Wet One”. Today the Wet Valley is part of a Scenic Byway-Frontier Pathway with over 323 days of sunshine. “La Mojada”, Custer County, Westcliffe, Colorado, Sangre de Cristos-whatever name you use for this place, all of them conjure up the time and spirit of the Old West. With a history of silver, gold and cattle ranching-where such names as Bull Domingo Ranch are part of the local color, the Lakeshore Lodge on Lake DeWeese in Westcliffe, Colorado stands apart from the rest. When our family came to Colorado over forty years ago, we were searching for a weekend retreat large enough to shelter our family and all the grand children we hoped to have someday. We looked for a place of comfort and quiet close enough to drive after a long week running our family business. We found it in Westcliffe and over the years we have saved and built and created a place with our own hands. A place we think of as just about the most beautiful and most restful in our beloved Colorado. Today we are blessed-better than we deserve-all together there are 21 of us, give or take a few friends some of the grandchildren are always asking to bring.
Why the Owner Chose Westcliffe:
“Simple Pleasures-Profound Peace” Our beloved “Wet Valley” has changed so little over time. We watched others towns all change beyond recognition. Not our Westcliffe. With all of its beauty, the biggest change has been the designation of our lake as a state wildlife reserve and the area as a Frontier Pathway-Scenic Byway ensuring they remain unchanged in perpetuity. Westcliffe is known as the place where successful people come to be regular Joe’s. That sums it up. Nobody puts on airs in Westcliffe. Remember what “It” was in the Billy Crystal movie “City Slickers”? If you get “It”, if you understand what is important in life- hard work, playing hard and the love of friends and family, then you will “get” Westcliffe and come to think of it as part of your family history. We chose to purchase the property in Westcliffe because we could own the land and waterfront. We knew that this would always be so because the Lake has now been closed to further development and designated as a state wildlife refuge. Its proximity to Cripple Creek sold us on the place, it is close to home. Finally, Westcliffe is one of the most beautiful spots in Colorado! There are some cabins near the lake, there are only three families that own their land and beach on the lake and therefore you do not have to share our beach with anyone.
The Unique Benefits at this Lodge:
We enjoy all of the fruits of the valley when shopping for fresh produce and meats. We like to cook family meals outdoors, take long walks, swim and fish in the lake, and dip in the pool. We also enjoy family game nights. Simple and satisfying. Gather together easily in 7 bedrooms, 6 baths, 2 kitchens, a great room, media room and loft where all the cousins like to sleep in one big room with a 360-degree view. Down at the Lake Meeting/Recreation House there are over 150 ft of waterfront, kayaks and paddle boats for exploring the 10 miles of shoreline or trolling for fish. There’s an extra commercial kitchen for large groups and catering, 2 full restrooms with showers, a fireplace, pool/ping pong table and a few vintage arcade games the kids have collected over the years. (We’ve even been known to banish the personal electronics and engage the grandchildren in spirited board games or the excitement of our collection of vintage jigsaw puzzles!) Once the stars come out, strike up the fiddle or unroll your projector screen. We’ve created an outdoor amphitheater perfect for campfire programs, outdoor movies or singing songs under the stars.
