Killarney 38 miles.

The lively coastal town of Cahersiveen is ideally situated aside the River Fertha, at the foot of the Beentee Mountain, in beautiful County Kerry. Renowned in the 1800s for the salting of Atlantic fish, and being the birth place of Daniel O'Connell, today the town of Cahersiveen retains strong links with the ocean, boasting an excellent harbour and a superb marina offering sailing, trout and salmon fishing and deep-sea angling opportunities. Cahersiveen provides an eclectic mix of traditional pubs and modern venues, together with a host of cafés, restaurants and interesting craft and antique shops, whilst monthly street fairs present visitors with an ideal opportunity to peruse the colourful stalls of curiosities and local produce. Explore the nearby hidden coves, walk the Kerry Way, discover the fascinating archaeological remains at nearby Waterville, or take a short drive or ferry crossing to the lovely Valentia Island. With plenty to see and do, you'll want to return to this fabulous location time and time again.

Cahirciveen is the largest town at this end of the Iveragh Peninsula and a busy local centre for shopping, entertainment, eating and drinking. It's a good place for exploring this part of the Ring of Kerry and has some fine attractions of it's own.

Every August it hosts a Celtic Music Festival. The Old Barracks Heritage Centre provides a good insight into Daniel O'Connell as well as local History.

A good range of bars and restaurants provide the visitor with some tasty local cuisine and music in the evenings.

Caherciveen's Heritage centre is housed in a former Royal Irish Constabulary (Police during British occupation) Barracks. The building was burned by anti-treaty forces in 1922 and has been restored.

This building seems quite out of place for Kerry and there is a story that the plans for it were mixed up with a barracks to be built in India.

With the careful restoration of this interesting building, services such as restaurant, craft workshops, audio-visual display, display of archaeological remains and a tourist information point are provided.

The center houses exhibits on Daniel O'Connell, the Fenian uprising, and other local history.
