This is a Florida classic perfect for nature lovers and pet owners! The Yellow Hibiscus House is an immaculately kept 1960s home with a nature-oriented theme, soothing colors, and lots of nooks for people of all ages to relax. It’s in a beautiful, tree-filled neighborhood built around the St. Petersburg Country Club that's great for walking, running and bike riding. The entrance to the Boyd Hill Nature Preserve, a 240-acre wilderness, is only four blocks away. Although the area is quiet and tranquil, it's only 10 minutes by car from St. Pete’s vibrant downtown -- with its stunning waterfront, museums, trendy restaurants, antique stores, Tropicana Field and the like -- and only 15 minutes from some of the top-rated beaches in the United States, including Ft. Desoto (with an award-winning dog park!), St. Pete Beach, Pass-A-Grille and Treasure Island. The 47-mile-long Pinellas bicycling and recreation trail is only 4 miles away; Eckerd College and the Poynter Institute are less than 10 minutes by car. There's also a bus route only a few blocks from the house. The back yard is completely fenced in, allowing children or dogs to play safely. A discount is available in the non-peak season (May 1-Oct. 31) for families visiting the area for medical treatment.
Lovely master bedroom with queen bed, private patio accessible via sliding glass doors, bath, and plenty of storage space. Year Purchased: 2011
About the owner: I was born in Louisiana, grew up in Puerto Rico, went to high school in New Hampshire and attended college in Colorado. I did a stint in the Peace Corps in South Korea and traveled before going back to school to earn a master's degree in journalism. I worked as a reporter and editor for about 25 years. In July 2014, I moved to Gulfport, Fl. after spending 20 years in Vermont working and raising a family. I'm having a wonderful time managing my properties in Florida and enjoying the many things this area has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose St. Petersburg: I bought the Yellow Hibiscus House in March 2011 from an older gentleman who lovingly maintained it for 40 years as his second residence. The first year I owned it I expanded it, landscaped the grounds, and painted the outside the cheerful yellow that gives the property its name today. I got to know St. Pete by driving around buying art, furniture and other items to make the house and property exactly as I would want it for myself.
The Unique Benefits at this House: Believe it or not I signed the contract to buy the Yellow Hibiscus House without seeing it in person. I fell in love with it from the photos on the MLS and it did not disappoint when I actually got to walk in the door. The house was in pristine condition. I love the light, the privacy, the open floor plan, the vintage design and the original tiles in the bathrooms. The minute I go inside I feel relaxed. Even though the house is very cozy, there's plenty of room for six or eight people to do their own thing. And the neighborhood is terrific. Being by the golf course and nature preserve provides many opportunities to be outdoors enjoying the weather and the wildlife.
