Cajun cottages are small houses, 900 square feet, originally built to provide rental housing for working class families. Today, they are home to retired couples and young families as well as vacation rentals. 524 State St, also known as Alice Moseley Cottage, features walls made of 1x4 boards, with a tung oiled finish that gives the house a mellow amber hue. Most of the furniture is antique and the kitchen area is decorated with vintage advertising signs. Colorful framed prints made from original paintings done by my mother, Alice Latimer Moseley, decorate the walls. There are two bedrooms. The larger bedroom has a queen sized bed, with pillowtop mattress, the other bedroom has a double sized bed, also with a pillowtop. There is a living room/kitchen area divided by a breakfast bar. The kitchen is truly lovely, surrounded with windows. There is a stove, dishwasher, microwave, and toaster oven. The kitchen is fully stocked with pots, pans, glasses and dishware. The washer and dryer are in a separate alcove, just off of the bathroom. The bathroom has a tub and shower. All towels and linens are provided. We also have a clothesline out back for you to hang your wet swimsuits and beach towels on! The neighborhood is a quiet one and it is important that our renters be as respectful of our neighbors as the neighbors will be to you. This is not a party house so please do not inquire about the house if you are planning a lot of cars or a lot of noise. There is a lovely completely fenced yard (privacy fence in back), an umbrella table and chairs and a bbq grill. The house is about 6 blocks from the beach and Old Town. It has Dish TV and wifi. ALL PROCEEDS FROM THE RENTAL OF THIS HOUSE GO DIRECTLY TO THE ALICE MOSELEY FOLK ART & ANTIQUE MUSEUM.

Our family rented Yellow House for a week during our daughter's spring break and we loved our time in Bay St. Louis. Everything was just as described in the advertisement and we plan to rent VRBO again in the future for our next vacation.Recommended for: Families with young children.

Everything as detailed in the description and photos is right on! The neighborhood is friendly and quiet with several neighbors telling us what to do and where to eat. The house is warm and homey and our dog enjoyed the fenced yard. We walked to the beach which is about a half mile from the house. Several good restaurants are also within walking distance. The Sycamore House was one of our favorites with fabulous Suchi on Wednesday nights. Bay St Louis is a great small town on the Gulf. We would defintely stay at this property again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, pet owners.

We enjoyed every minute of our stay in the Yellow House! It was a quiet place that we could relax while we visited family and tended to errands in Long Beach. We called Ms Gerri and she came over to help us with something and she was AMAZING!! Supper friendly and we enjoyed getting to know her. Thank you so much for allowing us to stay in your home. We appreciate it & will call you again next time we are in town!Recommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

The cottage is so well stocked and decorated to the last detail. I had everything I needed to cook breakfast and sometimes lunch for my family (minus the food of course). So we were able to save on those meals and splurge at dinner with all they YUMMY seafood places nearby. The artwork, the books, even the DVDs all fit the theme of the cottage. I spent so much time reading and looking at pictures in the books provided. The neighborhood is quiet and safe. Very close to the ocean, although we didn't find any accessible beaches right in Bay St. Louis. We had to drive to Waveland, Pass Christian or Gulfport. The beaches in Bay, were blocked by a paved sidewalk. We wern't sure if we could go down there since there was a wire type fence. Overall its a great little house in an awesome nighborhood. Beaches and site of Luisiana all nearby.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, pet owners, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: My name is Tim Moseley and I am the son of nationally acclaimed folk artist Alice Latimer Moseley. After losing my home in Hurricane Katrina, I bought this house to restore and remodel. I am a retired psychotherapist and longtime antique collector.
Why the Owner Chose Bay St. Louis:
When my mother was 79, she came to Bay St. Louis for a one day art show and I came from my home in Houston, TX to join her. We both fell in love with the hospitality of the Bay and the generosity of spirit of its people. About two months later my mom informed me that Bay St. Louis was where she wanted to live and shortly, thereafter, this 80 year old free spirit drove down from North Mississippi alone except for the company of her two dogs, Lily and Puff. I drove over from Houston and helped her move in and she had,in the next 15 years, some of the happiest years of her life. 'The people here are just so friendly,' she often said. I agreed and 4 years later moved here from Houston.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This house is ideal for travelers who like to spend more on eating out and shopping than on lodging. The house is newly redecorated, but is more homey than fancy. We are dog friendly and have a fenced back yard and are walking distance (1 mile) of restaurants and shops in the Main Street and Depot Districts of Bay St. Louis. We provide each renter with a hilarious Alice Moseley DVD and, if desired, a guided tour of the Alice Moseley Museum.
