Since, for navigating purposes, every place needs to be a few miles from somewhere, this lovely and spacious home with room for 12 is two miles from tiny and proud Donnelly, Idaho. Donnelly's mayor will remind you that their city is a gateway to Cascade Lake and the natural beauty that surrounds it, from "beautiful mountains, meadows, hundreds of alpine lakes and even many hot springs." So, when you stay at Norwood House, you'll be just minutes away from that doorway: the entrance to all the hiking, biking, fishing, boating, skiing etc., that comes with this area's abundant natural resources.

Norwood House sits near the bottom of a peninsula that juts down into the lake and seems to be held in place by the lake's watery fingers. Because the home is just a little over a 1,000 feet from the shore of one of those fingers, it has filtered lake views from the deck and is the perfect headquarters for your forays out on the lake. The lower level is a veritable wrap-around wall of windows, offering you expansive views of the surrounding landscape from the comfortable vantage point of plush couches and chairs. Though it's a large, integrated space with vaulted ceilings, the warmth of the decor and the wood stove give it the feel of a country lodge. Norwood has cable TV and a DVD player as well.

This home has four big bedrooms, three of which are in the loft, which also has a sofa bed. You'll feel like a king (or queen!) in the master bedroom with its king bed (also a twin around the corner) and entertainment center. Lounge like royalty in the adjoining master bath, replete with jetted tub, gorgeous granite and hard wood trims. Downstairs, you'll find bedroom with a single/double bunk and a bathroom/mudroom that overlooks the mountains in the backyard. In all, with the king and queen beds, two full/doubles, two twins, and one sofa bed, Norwood will accommodate 12. Its three full bathrooms make the wait time minimal.

Norwood has a full modern kitchen with lots of cabinet space and room the chef and assistants to move around. There are a number of restaurants in nearby Donnelly serving everything from sushi to huckleberry pies. For a greater culinary selection, make the 15 minute drive up to McCall where you can choose from 30 eateries. Otherwise, bring along any special ingredients you might need to prepare meals yourself, a task that should be easy in this fully equipped kitchen. Have your meals at the table and savor the view while you eat. There's room for four more at the bar. Or, weather permitting, fire up the barbeque, grill some surf and turf, and enjoy your meal in the fresh air out on the big deck and patio.

Given its proximity to Cascade Lake, Norwood House is, of course, ideally situated to fishing, boating, sailing, water skiing, wake surfing, kayaking, rafting, and just about anything else associated with water. Both Cascade Lake and Payette Lake to the north have regattas in summer. There are numerous facilities for launching your boat. The cool climate around Donnelly is ideal for huckleberries and the mountain slopes are thick with huckleberry bushes. So, what better excuse for a festival than the ripening of these juicy berries, a fete that takes place in Donnelly the beginning of August. Anglers: plenty of fishing opportunities around Donnelly. In season, you can fish for salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout, bass, catfish or perch. Or, for some real excitement, schedule a scenic flight and let one of the local backcountry pilots show you the area from a real bird's eye view! Whatever season you visit, Donnelly has something in store for you.
