This 3,000 square foot 4bedroom/4.5bath timber frame home sits on the edge of a hillside meadow with great views and is less than five years old. The location is secluded and private in the heart of the High Peaks but only a short drive from the hamlets of Keene, Keene Valley, and Jay. The resort town of Lake Placid is only 30 minutes away by car and Whiteface Mountain Ski Area is a 20 minute drive from the house. Cross-country ski areas, numerous state-maintained hiking trails, and an abundance of other summer and winter recreation opportunities are nearby.
The main level features a great room with soaring wood ceilings, a full wall of glass to maximize the views, exquisite timber frame details, warm oak floors, and a wood-burning fireplace. This kitchen and dining area are open and connected to the great room in order to facilitate conversation and to allow views from all public spaces in the home. The kitchen is fully-equipped and features granite countertops, maple cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances including a Jenn-Air gas cooktop and electric oven, Asko dishwasher, LG French door refrigerator with ice maker, and a dual zone wine cooler. The dining table, seating six to eight, is lit at night by recessed lighting and a candle chandelier, but during the day has great views in several directions. There is also a separate sunny breakfast nook off the kitchen area for additional eating space for four to six people. The master bedroom on the main floor has a king bed with deluxe mattress and bedding, a gas fireplace, a large walk-in closet, and a bathroom with dual Kohler sinks, a large shower with deluxe showerhead and body jets, and a Jacuzzi Pure Air bath for ultimate relaxation. There is also a half bath on the main floor. Enjoy the views of the Jay Range, the Sentinel Range, and Clements Mountain from all three levels or get the full effect from the large 50' deck, which is accessible from the great room, dining area, and master bedroom on the main level.
Downstairs, there are two large bedrooms, one with a king bed and the other with a queen bed, as well as two bathrooms with showers. The laundry room is downstairs and features large capacity washer and dryer. The highlight of the lower level is a large rec room with a gas fireplace, LCD flat panel HDTV with satellite and surround sound, several seating areas, a wet bar with sink and refrigerator, a large sectional sofa, and numerous board games, puzzles, books, and videos.
On the upper level, the open loft overlooks the great room to the north and has a porch facing south. It features a cozy seating area with a reading chair and an Adirondack bookeshelf loaded with plenty of reading material, as well as a baby grand piano. The loft connects to a bedroom decorated in a bear theme with two twin beds and a private bath with tub, ideal for children and well-equipped with kids books, toys, and a kid-sized bean bag chair.
The main and lower levels are equipped with in-floor radiant heat and each of the four full bathrooms has supplemental heat. The house is fairly child-friendly and has two Stokke child chairs for the dinner table, other child seating such as a double child Adirondack chair, a Maclaren jogging stroller, safety gates for the stairways, and various toys, games, videos, and books for kids. The house is fully equipped with linens, including extra quilts, blankets, and cozy throws for snuggling on the couch. No detail was overlooked in the finishes such as tongue and groove Northern white cedar ceilings, massive fir timbers, slate tile floors, lighting by designers such as George Kovacs, original paintings and prints by Adirondack artists such as Bruce Mitchell and Ruth Rumney, oil-rubbed bronze hardware, and amenities such as an espresso machine in the kitchen, telescope for viewing the clear night skies, binoculars for bird-watching in the meadow, and stereo XM satellite music systems on two levels.
This setting is the perfect place to enjoy the serenity and natural beauty of the Adirondacks without having to sacrifice comfort. Red Oak Lodge truly is a special place in this most fascinating and captivating Adirondack Park. Winter provides opportunities for downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, watching the numerous winter sports in Lake Placid, sledding just out the back door, or simply enjoying the hush after a fresh snowfall. Spring brings a unique beauty as the forest and wilderness surrounding the house comes alive. Summer is full of life as the birds and wildlife make themselves known and as the communities throughout the North Country come alive with outdoor concerts, family events, art festivals, farmers markets, and more. The fall is unforgettable as the hills and valleys fill with color and cool days are perfect for hiking the area trails. You may never want to leave.
A four-wheel drive vehicle is recommended in summer and essential in winter. No smoking and no pets.
