Best kept secret on St. Helena
Best kept secret on St. Helena
I love Coffin Plantation, this house is right beside the Plantation House....in fact, this house was the plantation keepers house. If you love bed and breakfast inns, you will fall in love with this home. It s like stepping back in time, from the moment your ride through the avenue of oaks and arrive at the home, which is on the water. The lot is huge, there is a shed we parked our golf cart under, and to the left side of house is a fenced in area right off from the mud room, which was nice, the dogs didn't have to be on leash all the time. There are beautiful live oak trees everywhere as you walk down to the beach, even at my age, I couldn't resist climbing them with the grand kids.Late one evening, I was walking down the beach, and three deer ran right pass me. Inside the house you will find all the moderations of a home. Here you are truly renting someone's home not a rental property, her decorations and elegant furniture reflect that. I would rent this property again and highly recommend it. Thank you soo much for sharing your home with my family.

Relaxing Week in a Beautiful Home
Relaxing Week in a Beautiful Home
My two young grandchildren and dogs loved our peaceful and relaxing week in this historic home. The secluded location was wonderfully quiet and restful. The listing description and photos are accurate, but the house and setting were even more beautiful than I expected. The road leading to the house is lined by huge live oaks draped with Spanish moss. We enjoyed long walks along the road, often seeing small deer in the woods. The private beach was perfect for long walks, watching dolphins and boats, and collecting shells. The hammock by the beach was shaded by large trees most of the day and provided a lovely view of the beach. The glass-walled sun room was a restful place for reading, looking out at the water, and watching the children play outside. The house was much larger than I anticipated, tastefully decorated with very comfortable beds and other furniture. The well-equipped kitchen had everything necessary for cooking meals when we didn't eat out. Several days we went to Hunting Island State Park, just a few minutes from the house, to walk nature trails, climb to the top of the lighthouse, and play in the surf. This was a perfect place for a laid-back vacation. My grandchildren are already asking if we can stay there again next year when they have fall break from school, and I hope we'll be able to do that. I highly recommend this property and look forward to having an opportunity to stay there again. The owner was polite, informative, and responsive to questions, and the property was very clean and well-maintained.

My sisters and I don't get together but once a year, and we were really looking forward to this trip to SC. It had been raining before we got there, so we were expecting dampness. What we were not expecting was the smell of mustiness and mildew before we even opened the door. It was really bad, and did not get better as the week went on. We swallowed allergy pills everyday and my oldest sister started coughing every time we walked in the door. There was a clause in the rental agreement about being charged $50 if we left the grill dirty. The grill was covered in grease when we got there. The property manager came out and said to open the doors in the morning to help air out the house, and the owners had a big get together there on the 4th and must have left the grill dirty. She said she would 'cover ' for us so we wouldn't get charged. So, we cleaned the grill twice. Once for them, and once for us when we were done. The water didn't want to go down the drains, so we told her about that too. One of my sisters and I walked out to the water, only to look back and see our older sister waving to us! We hurried back to find the washer was pouring a half inch of water all over the floor. Wading through that to stop the washer with all the electric in there was a little scary. The hose had pulled out of the drain. We 'fixed' it. We thought this might be where some of the odor was coming from, if all that water was going under the house. The property manager said she would call the plumber. There was supposed to be a nice view of the water across the 600 ft back yard, and I suppose there was; but the trees hanging down left only a sliver of a window to see the water from the house. Not a wide water view from the house. The furnishings were very nice and tasteful. The beds very comfortable. A nice old home, but needs some looking after.

Great stay in a lovely property
Great stay in a lovely property
Visiting from the UK with my wife and two teenage daughters, we had a lovely stay and found the house very comfortable and when we needed assistance with a minor issue it was resolved quickly and efficiently. The location was excellent and we recommend the nearby Shrimp Shack and the beaches on Hunting Island for swimming/sunbathing. Charleston is certainly worth a visit with beautiful houses and streets. Beaufort was a regular haunt for us and if you like your food have a lunch (or two) at Plums. Just love South Carolina!

My husband, child, and dog stayed at this property in July. We loved the house and the location. It was very quiet and relaxing, but the nearby islands have lots of things to do and see. There was a book of things to do, restaurants, etc in the house for us. The property was even more beautiful than the pictures--the old live oaks are just amazing. The house was just like the pictures and was very comfortable and nice. It was great fun walking our dog on the beach. We saw dolphins swimming right along the shore! The beach was right in front of the house and we had it all to ourselves except for some horses in the morning. There was also a great hammock with a little tent over it out by the beach. Nice to sit in and catch a breeze in the afternoons. We had a great time and would like to go back next year.

Nice Historic Getaway
Nice Historic Getaway
We arrived for Thankgiving. As we drove down the sand road to the house, we were amazed at the beautiful ancient Live Oaks that had created a canopy and veiled with Spanish Moss blowing in the breeze. The house was easy to unload the SUV due to it being low to the ground and not set up in air like most Low Country houses we have rented (as the pictures conveyed). With in five minutes of arrival, the kids had the two dogs at the beach while we unloaded our belongings. It was very private and quite. The property is large and plenty of room for the kids and dogs to wonder. The house was clean and the historic pine floors were great. The screen porch is very large and the dogs prefered hanging out here than in house. My wife and I drank coffee and read paper in piece every morning in sun room before kids got up. We also found after kids went to bed, we could take a bottle wine to the beach and watch the moon rise over the water, just beautiful and very Private. We spoke to the owners a couple of times and they were very helpful in direction we needed to get around and where to buy our seafood. We ate at Boondocks Tavern a couple of times and is only about two miles down road. There are a few more fun restaurants in the area and there are many others in town, which is just about twelve miles to Historic Beaufort. There is horses near by to ride, we had kayaks delivered to Hunting Island and kayaked the logoon, UNREAL. The neighborhood around the house is perfect for afternoon walks and the people are very friendly. Would I recommend this property? Absolutley!! If you are History freaks like we are, this is the place to be. It's right next door to the orignal Plantation House (Coffin Point Plantation, 1801) a real treat! There's a lot of history real close by in all directions. We will be back as soon as we can and will be bringing our boat the next time. All in all this was a great place to vacation and cook Thanksgiving Dinner. We are planning another trip soon, We Thank You both, Lynn and David, for a great time and all your Hospitality. We'll see Ya'll soon!!!!!!

• Was the listing description accurate regarding the location? The location of the property was accurate. • Did the listing photos accurately reflect the rental’s appearance and amenities? • Was the property clean and well-maintained? The listing photo’s where limited and did not reflect an accurate appearance at our arrival. The photos listed gave the appearance of a nice well maintained century home. The cleanliness of this home where well below the standard of other VRBO rentals we have stayed at over the past decade. Many personal items were left in the bathrooms; the refrigerator looked like it was not cleaned in years, electrical outlets and the entire panel of the electrical main were missing. This is a nice description; the reality is this home was not safe. • Was the owner helpful in answering your questions or concerns? The owner was evasive in answering our questions, giving a very minimal reply with few details. • Would you recommend this property to a friend or relative? After this experience I would recommend that anyone looking at this rental just keep on looking. Our arrival and stay at this property was extremely short. We called and tried to explain our concerns and complete dissatisfaction to the owner and were victim to abusive language. This experience with this property and owner left us with no other choice but to leave and not stay there at all. Our total time at this property was under 60 minutes. We would not recommend this experience on anyone.

Owner response: This reviewer arrived at my property and simply did not like it. I have been renting it for 2 years and have never had a complaint. The description and pictures on the website are accurate. I have a professional cleaning crew after each stay and the house was just thoroughly cleaned when this renter arrived. Renter called me and demanded a full refund of his money, which I refused to do since there was nothing wrong with the house. Renter has now posted this negative review since I would not give him a full refund.
Quiet Getaway on St. Helena
Quiet Getaway on St. Helena
Our family just vacationed here and it was wonderful. We loved the quiet secluded home with the private beach just a short stroll from the house. Our children went clamming on the beach in front of the house. We loved the history of the house and having the platation house next door. The house is spacious and well appointed. The owners were super easy to work with and I would definitely recommend this house to someone looking for a quiet beach getaway with access to lots of places nearby(Beaufort, Fripp Island, Hunting Island State Park, Port Royal, Parris Island-USMC).
