Wonderful place to call home, for however long
Wonderful place to call home, for however long
This spot was perfect for us, and we'll definitely be coming back again. The house is adorable! The kitchen is updated and the whole house is clean and cozy, and it's really nice to have the washer & dryer for beach things on vacation. The fireplace is wonderful inside, and there is a firepit if it's nicer out. It's secluded, but just a one mile walk to York Harbor Beach (and just a short drive or long walk to Long Sands). Also, the Bagel Basket, just up the street in York Village, has amazing breakfast bagel sandwiches. Kathy and Laurie are wonderful hosts, and very helpful. They've even taken tips from the other reviewers, and added an air conditioner as well as the other items the guests missed! We definitely made use of the spices. It's also a beautiful property, and it's amazing to see the huge variety of birds and other wildlife that live around the pond. We loved the Mill Pond house, and having Kathy and Laurie to rent from. I'd recommend this property to anyone!

Owner response: Thank you Ashley and Patrick. We feel very lucky to have met you. You're the best! -K
This spot was perfect for us! We loved the peaceful location away from traffic, but just minutes from the ocean. We got to sit out and watch the birds around the pond out front. The house is very clean. The kitchen is fully updated and very nice. It is adorable! Kathy and Lori came to greet us and were so very friendly. The fresh flowers in the house were a beautiful touch. I enjoyed drinking my coffee and watching the hummingbirds and butterflies play in the flowers outside the windows. We brought our pets and they really enjoyed being able to play outside in the yard. The house is within walking distance to a really great ice cream shop and historical sites. We loved it! The only thing that would have made it 5 stars for us, would have been air conditioning. ( which I believe they are adding) We are from Texas and are spoiled! I think it would have been plenty cool though, any other time of the year. We were there in July. I would definitely stay here again! Thanks ladies, for a trip of a lifetime for us!

Owner response: Thanks for the nice words Leisa! I am sorry that you were uncomfortable with the heat and humidity, it was incredible. We don't often have temperatures up here like the one's we had last week, I think it was 100 degrees one day! Yes, we did put in an air conditioner. We only wish we had done it sooner for your comfort. Since I am from this area I guess I'm use to whatever nature gives us. Thank you again for your generous review and we do hope that if you find yourself coming up this way again that we have a chance to meet again. Stay COOL! :) ~Kathy
Great Place to Stay!
Great Place to Stay!
This turned out to be a great place to stay even though we were hoping to get a place closer to the beach. We had a party of 7 including 4 adults and 3 children (ages 6, 6, and 2), we bunked the two 6 yr olds on the twin bed, and the adults had the full beds, there are curtains that separate the two full beds (but proved to not be a problem at all), I even spent a couple nights sleeping on the couch cause someone snored and it was comfortable, needed to bring our own towels and sheets. From here a short drive allowed us to visit the Nubble Light House and dine at Fox's overlooking the ocean, we walked a short distance to get to York Harbor Beach and watch the fireworks (which were great!) Also, a short walk to Mill Dam Road will lead you to Steedman Trail, a very well maintained trail lined with mulch for easy walking and this led us to the Wiggly Bridge (which really does wiggle!) and from there you can cross the street and trail continues to York Harbor Beach! Long and short sands beaches were a short drive away, and this is how we spent a couple of our days, collecting starfish, snails, crabs, visiting shops and playing at Funorama Arcade. And right down the road we visited York's Wild Kingdom and Amusement Park (great fun, by the way) You'll see a picture Kathy posted of the Off The Boat Lobsters sign, this is probably a 10-15 min walk south down Lindsay Road and the lobsters were delicious! Better than the one I ate at Blues Inn Restaurant off short sands :) - we pulled the Patio set into the driveway and started cracking the lobsters open and when dinner was done, we hosed everything off! There is also a moveable fire pit with plenty of wood for nice nights talking by the fire :) There was one big downfall and that was NO air conditioning, it got very hot in there at times, and spices were not there yet on our visit so ask about those if you plan on cooking in the house, and there was a broom and dustpan, but no mop or bucket or laundry detergent. Plenty of utensils, cups and plates, bowls were limited, toilet paper and paper towels are supplied. Oh, and be careful, there are snakes in the wood pile, and a fox came and visited us one morning and he lounged around sunbathing at times and disappeared to the back of the driveway. We never saw the snapping turtle, but we did get to see the blue heron, which is always a sight to see :)

About the owner: My partner Laurie and I relocated from Cape Cod, Massachusetts to live the 'simple life' on our small farm in Eliot, ME. We are both avid gardeners, and have run a CSA locally. I am a former architect turned artist and thoroughly enjoy our new life here in Maine. I also owned and operated a guest house in Provincetown for 5 years and loved it. We adore our little cottage in York and plan to live there full time in the future when we grow tired of the Big House. We look forward to developing the gardens in York when we catch our breath. The simple life is a very busy one!
Why the Owner Chose York Harbor:
York Village and York Harbor are both absolutely gorgeous. I fell in love with the area instantly decades ago. I felt exceedingly lucky to have had the opportunity to purchase this little gem. It was a total wreck when we bought it, and we did our best to make it quite livable. And even though it still needs work, it's a terrific place to live or vacation.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
Location, location, location! The Pond is nice too. We love the birds, the turtles, the breezes, the privacy, and the potential.
