Las Arcadas Condominiums is an oasis in Antigua - not in the thick of things, but close enough to walk to numerous restaurants, shops, crafts markets, grocery stores, Parque Central (Central Park), El Mercado (the market) and much more. Our neighbors include Guatemalans, visitors from around the globe, and ex-pats working on various projects and charities. Agua Volcano makes an awe-inspiring backdrop to this oasis.
Our Casita Rosita is an end unit, far from the noise of the street, and just steps away from the inviting swimming pools, large yard with flowering shrubs and mature fruit trees, bordered by woods. It is situated so it gets lots of morning sunlight to take away the evening chill, but in the warm afternoons it is shaded. All of the windows have screens - not standard equipment in Guatemala.
We have pressurized water - an important amenity in Antigua, and uncommon most places - and potable water is provided. After a day of shopping, sightseeing, hiking and otherwise enjoying this beautiful and fascinating town, you'll be glad to return to our quiet, casual and comfortable casita.
The neighborhood is gated and there is a friendly guard on duty around-the-clock who can also help with things like hailing a tuk-tuk (a motor-scooter taxi) or setting up tables and chairs if you'd like to entertain poolside. Housekeeping can be arranged for you and the price is very reasonable.
Transportation from the airport can be arranged for you (as well as other tours) and you will have an English speaking contact.
Nuestra casa es su casa. Our house is your house. We love it and think you will, too.

My wife and I had the pleasure of renting Las Arcadas for a week in April 0f 2013. What a great little apartment at a SUPER price !! The location is just right; close enough to the square and surrounding restaurants and sites to easily walk yet far enough out of the bustle to be peaceful at night. The unit itself was exactly as billed. Very clean and comfortable with everything in good working order. Nancy who manages the unit is also a travel consultant and was very helpful arranging transportation and tours for us. Antigua is delighful, peacefull and safe town made even more so by staying at Las Arcadas. We highly recommend it.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

My two children and I spent 8 days in Antigua and thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this condo. It's well maintained and offered all of the amenities of home especially with having wi-fi. The kids loved having a pool right outside the door and we took full advantage of it. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks, Tonja! Glad you enjoyed yourselves. My dd and her friend were in the pool almost every day, too, when we were there in June. Never mind the fact it was in the 60's at night.

I stayed here in April with my six year old daughter and it worked out great for us. The condo is very clean, comfortable, and reasonably priced. My daughter especially loved the swimming pool that is literally several feet from the front door. The neighborhood is quiet and safe and within walking distance of the central park, artisans market, grocery store etc. There is a nice view of Volcan Agua from the upstairs patio. I will definitely try to stay here again on our next visit.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks for writing, Serita. We'd love to have you back again.

Beautiful Condo, with 2 pools right outside, and a great View of the volcano from bedroom balcony/sundeck. I found Antiqua safe and its people friendly, and this gated property give you more of a tranquil secure fealling. The 2 private gated streets are lined with beautiful flowers and trees and are guarded 24/7 by a great staff. Its always good to know a little Spanish, and the condo also has some good travel books and directories to help make your tour arraingements easy. Nancy is very helpful and is only a phone call away. A new laptop, good WiFi along with cable TV (with some English channels) is provided. Just bring your groceries from the supermarket and everything else you need is provided. Even my security deposit was quickly returned within a day of my departure!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Making me homesick, David! We love it there. Glad you enjoyed it and thanks for writing about it.

We stayed here for a week at the start of April 2012. It was the perfect base for us to explore Antigua. The house is comfortable for a family of four. There was everything we needed in the house. It was clean and very well looked after. Having the computer and wi-fi was really helpful. The kids loved the pool and playing with the dogs in the compound (especially cute little Tamarindo across the other side of the pool). It is a nice walk from the centre of town, not too far and not too close. We were there during Holy Week and it was nice to be able to get away from the activity during the really busy days. We would recommend this as a great place to stay while visiting Antigua.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, families with teenagers.
Owner response: Thanks, Kathy. I replied to you via Yahoo, but now we can relate to Tamarindo. My dd and her friend also enjoyed his company when we were there in June.

We stayed here for 2 weeks and loved it. The photos accurately reflect the cozy and "homey" feeling of this condo. The location is great for visiting Antigua and walking into the "Old Town." The owner and the rep. were extremely helpful in arranging our stay. We will stay here again if we return to lovely Antigua. I would recommend this property to anyone who wants "the comforts of home" with a great view of the volcano.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, tourists without a car, age 55+, adventure seekers, sightseeing.
Owner response: It is homey, isn't it! I could live there and hope to someday . . . or at least for an extended stay.

A friend and I (retired teachers) went to Antigua to study Spanish for two weeks. Casita Rosita was a great place to stay. It is an easy walk into the central part of Antigua. The grounds are beautiful and the condo is lovely. The photos represent it well, but don't do it justice. It is a peaceful place to be, filled with local art and has a great view of volcan Agua. Everyone is friendly and helpful. It is also a great base for excursions to other places such as Lake Atitlan.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Many thanks, Chloe and Carol. We think the location is perfect, as well.

Our first stop on our 8 week adventure in Central America started in Antigua and we were so lucky to have such a wonderful place to get settled--the condo was comfortable, the pool was visited every day by our two boys, the upstairs patio was the perfect spot for coffee in the morning and cocktails in the evening, and the location was ideal--a 10 minute stroll to the grocery store, central park, and our language school. We will definitely be back to visit and will recommend the condo to friends and family.Recommended for: Families with young children, tourists without a car, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Condominium We were here from February 7 to March 7 2010; Nice view from terrace; morning sun in condo and terrace all day (sun from the east very important as nights are chilly in North American winter months); Complex of 40 condominiums (4 rows). This unit (unit no. 11) has the best location: far from street noise and no facing neighbors; The listing description and photos are accurate; The property was clean and well-maintained; it’s very well equipped The owner and Nancy (the owner’s representative in Antigua) were helpful and prompt in answering our questions; As we live in Canadian countryside, we are more sensitive to noise than an average person. Bad wall soundproofing with neighbor (as the unit is at the end of one row only one common wall). Fortunately we had very good neighbors; We plan to return next year. Antigua Walking distance (10 minutes) from the Main Square (Parque Central), very nice walk (take right upon leaving the gated community); Supermarket at walking distance (20min slow walk) building not nice looking but you will find everything necessary; Many cultural activities (English and Spanish). You’ll find info in an English language brochure ?Revue?; 45 minutes-drive from main Guatemala airport with shuttle service provided; One of the best weathers in winter: warm during the day and cool at night; We felt perfectly secure in Antigua.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.
Owner response: Want to point out that the eastern sun is also great to have June-Oct, which is considered Guatemala's winter because of the rains. The skies normally open up mid-afternoon - it's really nice to have the sunshine streaming in all morning/early afternoon! As Louis and Jolanta said, the local supermarket, La Bodegona, isn't pretty to look at but is well-stocked - a unique mix of grocery/department store. We haven't experienced noise problems from the house next door either, and we live in a pretty quiet neighborhood in St. Croix; nor have we had complaints from any renters about this.

I've just returned from a 2 week stay in Guatemala, one week of which was in Antigua. In the interest of honesty and full disclosure I'm acquainted with the owners but this in no way colors my review of their condo. It is simply a lovely, affordable and perfectly situated spot to visit Antigua. Located on the southern edge of town it is a pleasant 10 minute walk to Parque Central, the center of Antigua. On your first walk from Las Arcadas to town you'll take 100 photos easily. Everything asks to be photographed. The volcanoes, the chicken buses and tuk-tuks passing by you, the stunning architecture and the residents of the town, many in traditional Mayan dress. Walking to town is preferable to being driven during daylight as there is so much to see. It's a low-rise town and life happens on the street. It's all there for you to see and feel. As for the condo itself it really is an oasis. As any traveller knows your residence is your respite from it all when you need to disconnect from the overload of the day and Casa Rosita was perfect for that. A simple 10 minute walk from the center of town and I was back in a quiet place where there was a computer available to me, a full kitchen, swimming pool, washer-dryer and...cold beer! Never under-estimate the rejuvenitive powers of beer after a day of being in the chaotic pleasures of a new and enchanting place. Sitting at the computer, beer in hand, surfing the dozens of restaurants for our evening meal while my wife stayed in town shopping was blissful! As for the condo itself the photos you view on their website are realistic. The amenities mentioned are all accurate and the security is terrific. There is always a door man available, 24/7, if you need something (he comes in real handy when you lock yourself out as I did) and it's walking distance to the Saturday mercado (not to be missed) and the neighborhood bodega which has absolutely everything you'll need for your time in Antigua. I plan to return and I absolutely plan to stay at this condo when I return! Another amenity not mentioned is the owner's connection to Guatemala Reservations who will look after both you and the condo if you choose. Nancy Hoffman, the owner, can really make your life easy if you let her. We were picked up at GUA and dropped off at the door (and returned, too) to our condo for a very reasonable price. We asked Nancy to make all our little reservations, shuttles etc. as they came up and she did it expertly. Stay at Casa Rosita!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, tourists without a car, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 2006
About the owner: Guatemala and its people won our hearts as we traveled around the country and later as we fostered our daughter in Antigua during the process of adoption. A year or so after returning home with our daughter, we set up a non-profit selling goods made in Guatemala with proceeds benefiting Guatemalan charities, giving us another good reason to return to Guatemala often.
Why the Owner Chose Antigua:
We love the beauty, vibrancy and cosmopolitan feel of Antigua and dreamed of having a home there but didn't connect with the places we saw with a real estate agent. Then, on a buying trip for the non-profit, an acquaintance from the US called out my name as I walked through Parque Central and invited me to her home at Las Arcadas. She had lived in Antigua two years but was moving and her townhouse was for sale. Her place and the neighborhood had such a comfortable feel, we knew we were 'home.' Two days later we met the former owner over coffee at Cafe Condessa, struck a deal and sealed it with a handshake.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
We like to start off our mornings sipping coffee and tea on our deck, listening to the birds . . . but town beckons. We're always enthused to set off down the street to shop, meet up with old friends and new acquaintances, get a massage or just pass a little time in the park; but coming home to Casita Rosita is like a retreat from Antigua -- quiet and serene. Invariably we are reinvigorated to venture back out in the evening for dinner at one of the many superb restaurants, take in a lecture, movie or music, and to stroll the streets.
