Franklin cabin description
Our 'Misty Mountain' cabin retreat is a home away from home. Secluded at the end of a gravel road 1,700 feet high up on Ammons mountain in the Clarks Chapel community of Franklin (4 wheel drive not needed), you will surround yourself with nature, wildlife, and relaxation. Our cabin can comfortably accommodate two families and sleeps 6 people with one master bedroom with king bed, one guest bedroom with a queen bed, and an upstairs loft with two twin beds. This recently renovated home has native hardwood floors throughout, two full, clean bathrooms upstairs and downstairs, and a huge 750 square foot wraparound deck that peers over the mountain edge. Due to the gravel roads motorcycles are not permitted. If you are looking for a mountain retreat or a family vacation, this has it all. Grab a drink and enjoy a sunset dinner on the deck.
If you love hiking, white water rafting, shopping, or just sitting on the deck and soaking up the view, it is here for you. The white water rafting is some of the best in the country -- hit the Nantahala, Ocoee, or Tuskeegee rivers or tackle the class five rapids of the Chattooga. There are incredible fishing opportunities in the rivers, streams and creeks near the cabin, and are only minutes away from numerous waterfall hiking trails throughout the Great Smoky Mountains. New to town is the Smoky Mountains Performing Arts Center -- a 1,500 seat state-of-the-art facility presenting the finest in performing arts to Franklin and its surrounding towns.
An hour away is the gem of the western Carolinas, Asheville, where you can visit the beautiful Biltmore Estate and gardens, known widely as America's Castle. Owned by the Vanderbilt family, the Biltmore Estate is the largest privately owned residence in North America. Enjoy the wineries and beautiful land of the Biltmore, and a visit there during the holidays cannot be beat.
I can also do the work for you and manager your vrbo property!!!
Please come and visit our cabin. Visit http://www.fs.usda.gov/nfsnc to check out the foliage changes in our area. You will not be disappointed!

A wonderful stay
A wonderful stay
Really enjoyed my stay. Our family was able to enjoy the Thanksgiving Holidays away from home, yet had the blessing of all the amenities of home. This cabin is absolutely adorable, well supplied, just bring your food and clothes. Such a nice stay.

A friend and I stayed at your cabin late in October, 2012. I can't tell you how much we enjoyed our couple of days, nor how disappointed we were when a family emergency neccesitated us leaving early. The cabin is special, from the view to the comfort of the cabin. We have traveled to the mountains each year for almost 30 years. Your home is the best we have ever leased. Thanks so much for sharing it with us. We hope to return next year, and hope we can once again stay at hour lovely home. Almost forgot - we were very impressed with how clean the cabin was. Kudos, and perhaps a raise, to your cleaner.

Manager response: Thank you so much Judy for the kind words. One of the challenges of putting our home on the vrbo market, and managing it from Tampa, is having someone reliable to look after the home. We are certainly blessed with Leslie, and I have heard nothing but great things about her. I will certainly pass along your comments to her, and hope you can make it up the the cabin again to pick up where you left off!
Great views and cabin was well equipped and furnished. The owner was easy to deal with and very helpful, thanks Matt

Great Mountain Get-Away Location
Great Mountain Get-Away Location
This spectacular mountain get-away offers awesome views while you enjoy crisp mountain air in the fall along with a roaring fireplace. Cabin is nice and clean with everything available that you should need. The beds are comfortable and the kitchen is well supplied. As previous occupants leave it appears we each leave behind things that might be useful to the next occupants. If complete privacy is what you desire, you have found your location. Two other cabins are fairly close by, yet they are located so that you have total privacy. The cabin is convenient to grocery shopping & not too far from the downtown area. This cabin is located close to the top of the mountain with some of the road paved then it turns into a gravel road. Not a bad road at all however steep in a few places, but this is where you have to go to get your best views!!! We would highly recommend this location when visiting Franklin, NC.

Manager response: Thanks so much Kevin we really hope to have you again. I hear the leaves are still beautiful and I would really like to get up there soon.
This was our second trip to this property and I can honestly say I loved it as much as the first time. It's quiet and the views are spectacular. It's very comfortable and well maintained. If you like a spot to relax and appreciate your surroundings, this cabin is perfect. We will keep coming back to Misty Mountain. The owner is very helpful and easy to contact if you have any questions. I would highly recommend this property. Thank you once again for sharing this wonderful place with us! We just love it!

Sept 2012 week stay
Sept 2012 week stay
What a great cabin. Two bedrooms downstairs with large beds, a loft upstairs with twin beds. Bathroom up and bathroom down. Large living room/dining room/kitchen combo. Fireplace for the winter. Wrap around deck -- long view to mountains on the western horizon (great for sunsets), and the Milky Way was in full bloom. The road up is gravel but well-graded and easy to drive. Everything works fine. Large HD-TV gets a bunch of channels. Quiet. Huge trees all about. Dillard, Clayton, Franklin, Bryson City, Waynesville, Highlands are all within an hour drive. Asheville is a little farther. Some terrific golf courses within 45 minutes or so. We played Sky Valley, Sequoia National, and Laurel Ridge -- I recommend all of them. All have huge elevation changes. Sky Valley has bent grass greens.

My wife and I, and my daughter and her husband spent a delightful and very restful 2 weeks in this very comfortable mountain cabin. When we were not visiting antique shops, eating out at some good area restaurants, exploring the countryside or just plain relaxing, we were gazing upon picture book sunrises and sunsets. By the way we found the best restaurant for both breakfast and lunch to be "The City Restaurant" Good food and good prices. All the people in the area are nice and friendly. As is Matt, the owner of the cabin. Matt is also very accommodating. What a perfect get-away. Van

Manager response: It was great to host you and your family Van. There are so many great restaurants popping up in Franklin -- a much welcome change from what I remember 20 years ago! I am yet to find a mean bone in the body of any Franklin resident. Their kindness and hospitality keeps me coming back! We really hope to have you again soon. Matt
Wonderful mountain cabin
Wonderful mountain cabin
This was a great place to relax and enjoy the mountains. The view even in summer is excellent. My wife thought the furnishings were perfect and very comfortable as did I. Even in June the evening temps were nice and mild. Mornings were cool. We have spent several weeks in the area over the years and this cabin was the best we've found to date. We have even reserved the cabin for the fall leaf change. The last evening we were here, my wife and I saw a herd of 10 deer crossing the mountain just below the cabin. It made the trip. Oh, and the little masked bandit made his appearance on the deck to raid the bird feeder after sundown. We just can't say enough about how much we enjoyed Matt's cabin.

Manager response: Hi David, Thank you very much for your kind words. We really do enjoy our time there as well, and as you said, it really is a great place to cool down. The deer, raccoons, wild turkey, and the occasional skunk are omnipresent. We look forward to having you again in October -- that is really a great time to see the leaf colors in the Great Smokey Mountains.
The Retreat was accurate as listed. The photos were accurate and prepared us for what to expect. The facility was clean and well appointed. with a spectacular view of the valley in the fall. We would recommend this to anyone, hoping that we could return one day. The Franklin area has lots to do. Our day trip to Asheville was a fun excursion as were our hikes in the forest.

Cozy and Comfortable
Cozy and Comfortable
This cabin was an excellent vacation destination for our family! My parents joined my family and me for vacation, and this cabin was perfect for us. My father is disabled and is unable to go up more than a few stairs, and this cabin accomodated him very well. We really enjoyed the view, especially during the early mornings and evenings. Sunrise and sunset were beautiful over the mountains! We also enjoyed our "visitor", a raccoon, that stopped by in the evenings to snack on the bird seed on the porch. We definitely plan to visit again and are looking forward to coming back.

We built our Misty Mountain retreat nearly 30 years ago. We have been the only owners and have had great times there. The cabin was put on the rental market in 2010 as it spent so much time unoccupied and we really appreciate being able to share the home and the views with others.
