We came to Aspen just in time to catch the aspen trees turning gold. It was a magic time to be there. There is nothing like the golden aspens when they turn - they reflect the sun as though they are on fire. This house is a quick drive up the mountain from downtown Aspen. It affords wonderful views of the ski resorts and is a close drive to all Aspen has to offer. We used this house as our base to road trip throughout western Colorado and what a treat that was. It is hard going on many of the roads in the rural areas nearby and it was great to get back to this house after a long drive. We would take a dip in the hot tub in the master suite and then cook up dinner in the wonderful gourmet kitchen. The house has everything you could need and Sally the owner was accommodating, responsive and easy to work with. We highly recommend this house for families looking for a quiet luxury retreat. We hope to be back soon.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, tourists without a car, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I and our lab were fortunate enough to find this gem! The views of the mountain are unobstructed. There are fabulous walks from the house, including many of Aspen's best hikes. Hunter Creek Trail was out favorite and we walked it many times. It is not possible to capture the scope and beauty of this home and its location by photographs. You will not be disappointed. The property inside and out was immaculate. The outdoor gardens were beautifully maintained. I have and will recommend this property to friends and family.Recommended for: Girls getaway, pet owners, people with disabilities, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My husband and I stayed here for 4 nights. The views are amazing and the house is beautiful/comfortable. It is a 6 minute drive to the restaurants and a 2 minute walk to hunter creek trail. There is cable and the wifi is fast. The indoor hot tub came in handy after our long hikes. The owner was a pleasure to work with and she responded quickly to all my questions. I have rented houses in the USA/Internationally and this experience was the best. Highly recommended!Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

This home was a perfect spot for my wife and I to relax for a week and to use as a base from which we could hike and bike in the Aspen area. You will never find a home decorated with more unique, interesting and colorful objects of art and whimsy. A very comfortable place. The home is about 800 vertical feet above Aspen and we never tired of the view of the town, the ski mountains and beyond. Of course, the area has many great hiking trails to peaks, lakes, waterfalls and ghost towns, and the Rio Grande Trail is a very long and wonderful biking and/or running resource. And the jacuzzi is great for those sore muscles. The drive to town is less than five minutes and the restaurant choices are very wide and interesting. We definitely plan to come back to this home, either with another couple or with our grown children.Recommended for: Girls getaway, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We have enjoyed 5 wonderful visits to this special home. The listing and pictures don't do justice to this property. It is blessed with beautiful views of Aspen and the surrounding mountains. It is close to town and skiing but is wonderfully separate from town. This house is the perfect place to relax after a day outdoors in the mountains. From the gourmet kitchen to the comfortable beds and relaxing hot tub, there is not a better place to return after a long day and prepare for the next day's adventure. Sitting in the living room and watching the snowcats groom the trails across the valley at Ajax at night is pure magic. The house is beautifully decorated with interesting artifacts from all over the world. I am always sad leaving ... but look forward to returning.Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers.

We just returned yesterday from our wonderful stay at the Aspen View house. Our group was comprised of 3 adults and 3 kids. Of course we came for the skiing and spent most of our days on the hills, but it was so great to come home each day to this beautiful house. We brought tons of food with us but naturally forgot a couple of things. It was nice to have a stocked pantry to raid for those missing items. We were able to cook big meals in the kitchen and then eat in the spacious dining room. We had friends come by for dinner on two of our nights and everyone oohed and aahed about the house. The views are spectacular. So beautiful to be on the balcony looking at birds flying above puffs of clouds. One of our most special experiences came one evening when the boys were in the back of the house and heard a big boom. They thought something had hit the house. We adults were in the living room and saw that a fireworks display had begun on the mountain directly across from us. We ran to get the kids who were still thinking something must have happened when they saw the fireworks. We all grabbed coats and watched the entire show. First time any of us had ever been at eye level with fireworks. We had a perfect, unobstructed view and the kids were enchanted. The beds and bedrooms were all very comfortable with plenty of towels and linens. The jacuzzi was a big hit, especially with the kids and it kept the house nice and humidified. I have a problem with dry mountain air so that was a real plus for me. It was a quick trip into town for groceries and shopping, etc. We had the convenience of being near town and the spectacular views and solitude that come with being up mountain. Overall, a fabulous stay for our group. On the last morning, one of the 14 year old boys looked around and said "I'm going to miss this place."Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

We stayed at this property this summer (2010). In the last 10 years we have been to Aspen 7 times. This was the first time we stayed at this property and this was by far the most enjoyable off all the places we have stayed. We love to cook and the kitchen was completely stocked with all the accessories we needed. The owners also allowed us to use the contents of the kitchen and their pantry. The view was amazing and when I imagined it with snow I wished we had a need for the fireplace! It was great to have a mid-week cleaning of the place. There are two nice indoor places to 'hang' in the house, one sitting area has a television and the other area does not which made it a great place to play games (the same place as the fireplace) or read. Every bedroom has its own bathroom and the master bath is great with separate shower and jacuzzi areas. There is a laundry room which was great for my family of five. The house is spacious, our family had plenty of room to spread out and a multitude of places to go if someone wanted their 'alone time'. The property manager was happy to answer any questions we had, as well as the owners. The online photos accurately depict the house and its view. It's a fun house to stay in because there are many pieces of art the owners display and every time I entered a room I always saw something different I hadn't previously seen. While it's very quiet on the mountain, the town is close and easily accessible from the house by car. While we were there we rode bikes, hiked, rafted and went to the theatre. If you go with kids and the weather is inclement, go to the rec center---they have an awesome indoor water area complete with slides, lazy river and huge pool with different areas for different ages and levels of experience. I highly recommend this house---I'm looking forward to going back again and again---maybe this time with 'the girls'.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

My new husband and I spent a week at this outstanding residence for our honeymoon. The house is suitable for many more than two people, but it was our honeymoon and we loved it for the views, convenience and amenities. The views of Aspen and Ajex mountains and the town of Aspen made every evening magical. The trip into Aspen was no more than 7-10 minutes. If you love to cook, the kitchen is perfect with Wolf appliances and a huge chopping block. The master bedroom has an incredible shower and hot tub, perfect for after a long day on the slopes. The endless treasures inside and outside this house make it an ideal rental. I can't say enough! It has everyone one could think of to want.Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1978
About the owner: My family has been coming to Aspen since the mid-1950's, before Aspen was 'Aspen.' My mom and dad fell in love with the mountains, the skiing and the Aspen lifestyle. The house was purchased from the builder in 1978 and has been our family's 'get away from it all' place. My mom and step dad are world travelers and the house is decorated with folk art, rugs and photographs from their travels including Tibet, Africa, Bhutan, Mexico and South America, as well as plenty of Southwestern and native American art, pottery and rugs. My husband, kids and I don't spend as much time there as we would like and have decided to open our home so other people can come and enjoy the truly spectacular views and experience the release of stress that our warm home away from home has to offer.
Why the Owner Chose Red Mountain:
There is no other place on earth like Aspen; from the skiing and vast array of outdoor sports and pursuits, to the physical splendor of the terrain, to the fantastic shopping, cultural activities and world class restaurants. Aspen offers: Four big mountains to ski and snowboard to suit every experience level, terrain preference and style; easy access to wilderness areas; hiking; fly fishing; golfing; tennis; ice skating; road and mountain biking; river rafting; kayaking; para-sailing; horseback riding; outstanding symphony concerts daily in the summer season at the Music Tent; lectures, films, concerts and cultural programs at The Aspen Institute and Wheeler Opera House; the X Games; live music of major, nationally known acts at The Belly Up; World Cup ski racing; spas; a skateboarding park; the Snowmass Rodeo; Gondola rides to the top of Aspen Mountain; jeeping; film, music, food and comedy festivals; beautiful pedestrian-only public spaces and parks, and scenic Victorian architecture.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
The views from Red Mountain are the best in Aspen! We have a 180+ degree unobstructed views of the Aspen Valley from Independence Pass to Aspen Mountain to the Maroon Bells to Mount Sopris. It is a two minute walk from the house to access the Hunter Creek Trail, a beautiful hike up a mountain stream to a large open meadow and late 1800's ghost town or follow the trail down to town. The house is located in a quiet, uncongested neighborhood of attractive private homes and estates. Wildflowers, birds and butterflies abound in the summer. You can frequently spot deer, elk, foxes and other wildlife at dusk. This house offers the unique opportunity to be close enough to enjoy the amenities of the town of Aspen but at the same time feel like you're really getting away from it all.
