We stayed at Aloha Falls during Merrie Monarch 2013 week/weekend, and we were surrounded by aloha during our entire stay! The hale is beautiful and spacious! The surrounding gardens and waterfall/pond are simply enchanting. We were at peace! The purest sense of ALOHA "rises" here -- a true blessing!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: MAHALO!! What an incredible honor to have you and your halau at Aloha Falls. The Merrie Monarch festival was just stunning! I look forward to having you all next year. Blessings, Sierra

Amazing piece of heaven to call home during our vacation. In the heart of town, but felt like our own private oasis! Wonderful frogs and waterfall were the welcoming sounds, rather than the hustle of cars and people. Updated, clean and very comfortable. Can't wait to return. Thanks for opening your beautiful home to us.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We stayed at Aloha falls for couple of days and wished we had more time. The waterfalls and the mini rain forest climb down to get there was adventurous, the access to the falls is rugged but once you get there, its amazing. The sounds of the forest and the waterfall was enchanting and the massage by Sierra made it rejuvenating. We would love to go back again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My girlfriend and I had the most amazing experience staying at this home. Nothing beats losing all inhibitions and swimming in the two pools under two waterfalls, climbing and diving off the cliffs, relaxing in the screened in porch listening to the wildlife at night, and enjoying fresh papaya, lilykoi, and bananas grown and picked on the property. It's located in the most beautiful location in the big island. The house is very nicely decorated with plenty of room. Sierra was an amazing host. Can't wait to stay there again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Words fail to describe the beauty of this place. The accommodations were perfect. Choose to sleep in either two comfortable bedrooms or listen to the peepers and waterfalls on the surprisingly comfortable futon in the screened-in room. We explored the serene natural pool and multiple waterfalls in a completely private setting. Each morning we could help ourselves to abundant passionfruit, papaya and bananas. Sierra is a gracious host. I can't imagine a better location and accommodations for a vacation in hawaii, either as a couple or with the entire family!Owner response: It is always a gift to share my home with people who genuinely love and appreciate it. I couldn't ask for anything more! Future renters are more than welcome to eat from the wild gardens and explore the waterfalls.

Nice place, somewhat reminiscent of a home that you fix up for yourself. Equipped with the basics, but no AC. The top unit is definitely brighter and more airy than the bottom unit. The unit was clean, well maintained and comfortable. The driveway down to the house is San Francisco type steep, if you decide to take the car down to load/unload, etc. it may be easier to back down. Floors are tile, OK if you are fine going barefoot, otherwise bring some indoor slippers. The screened patio is pretty good and the hammock chairs were quite comfortable, but not usable when it start getting dark as the mosquitoes get in from near the top of the roof which is pretty open; if the sliding glass doors are open, they get into the house as well :-(. Keep your bug spray on hand; without that problem there is a futon on the patio that could be used outdoorsy sleeping experience. Most shopping is within driving distance; turned out Target was the most useful for "standard" grocery items; Walmart for other basics and souvenirs; the Safeway is in some crazy high price zone with some things twice the price as Target. For fresh fruits and vegetables the farmers market is the best choice and price with friendly people. The area around the house is all pretty much residential and quiet; no worries about traffic. The frogs are really loud in the evenings. The water heater is solar powered, so go first if you want a really hot shower :-). House does have Wi-Fi for internet access to keep in touch. The picture of the waterfall is pretty, but unless you bring ropes and harness there is no safe way to get down there. If you do get there, the water is really non-Hawaii cold; even the neighbors on the side who seem to have access did not stay long the couple of times we saw them there. Food trucks, local and chain restaurants are plentiful in the area with a good range of prices. The upper unit has two bedrooms and unless someone is OK to sleep on the couch (not a sofa bed), the unit sleeps 4 people. Nice place, we can recommend it for a smaller family and likely will consider it if we make another trip to Hilo.Owner response: Thank you for this detailed response. For future visitors: We have recently constructed stairs down the valley, which leads to the waterfall! So, you can disregard the comment about needing ropes and harness to repel down the cliff- it is totally accessible! Also, many guests love to sleep out on the futon, which is on the lanai and I have not heard them complain about mosquitoes out there. I think they are minimal. Yes, please take heed on the driveway situation. It is quite steep and backing down is the best approach. Most houses on the East side of the island do not have a/c because, we have year-round trade winds. The house does have ceiling fans in every room, which keep the temperature quite comfortable. I recommend the local health food stores or local grocery stores for the best prices (and selection) and to stay away from your typical "mainland" chain stores, as they tend to be the most expensive. Local grocery stores are: Abundant Life; Island Naturals; Sack N Save; KTA ~ all are 1-3 miles in distance from the house.

Me and my husband honeymooned at this home with a few close friends. The home was truly beautiful and fully equipped for all of your needs. There were wonderful books and great local coffee. Sierra was nice enough to give a couples yoga session and I personally had a massage on the lanai. The home was magical with the sound of the waterfall and the rainforests beauty. I will never forget hilo and plan to visit Aloha falls again. We had a wonderful stay visiting green sand and black sand beaches and just falling asleep in the hammocks. Climbing the water fall was truly breathtaking. I will never for aloha falls or the courteous accommodations. I look forward to visiting again and will never forget my adventures such as night diving with the manta rays and photographing the wildlife!!! Thank you for such a great start to my new family and to the next chapter in my life! Have been to Hawaii 6 times, and Big Island 3 times staying in condos and b&bs.; By far this was the nicest place yet! The waterfall grotto is literally your view from the screened in porch. Love the hammocks! Gorgeous, serene, and relaxing! Hard to describe really. At least as beautiful if not more than the pics. A nice change of pace from the traffic of Kona. Great location as well. Walking distance or very short drive to downtown. Easy 35 miles from volcano. 4 miles to Botanical Garden. On same road as Rainbow Falls. Thanks Sierra! We had a great time there and didn't want to leave!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 8/8

The location of the house was great. We explored the area and the location allowed us to see many of the Big Island attractions. A few recommendations to the owner to make the experience even better for the guest. Bed sheets should be sized correctly for each bed. Kitchen knives should be sharpened or replaced and utensils upgraded. A good review of the flatware should be done; several pieces were chipped and cracked. And while the falls allowed for a nice view, the access to the falls was extremely dangerous and almost impossible to get to. Families with children under 16 should be cautioned and warned about the hazard of the back grounds. Finally a good working coffee pot is always a must. I would rate the experience overall good although the web site as many do lead us to believe we were getting more for the value.Owner response: For the potential renter~ please know that all these concerns have been addressed. And also, please read on to all of the other reviews! Mahalo and happy renting!

I stayed at this house with my husband for 10 days. Words cannot describe the breath taking location of this house. We swam every day in the private waterfall. We especially had a blast climbing up behind the waterfall and following the endless trails of swimming pools and waterfalls. The owner was soooo helpful and gave us numerous ideas of fun things to do on the island. The house is right in Hilo and near many beautiful beaches and attractions. There wasn't a day we had that wasn't filled with adventure. And although the owner was available to give us helpful tips it was very private and we were about to enjoy the beautifully furnished and relaxing corridors in privacy. We will definitely be going back and highly recommended it.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Our family recently visited the big island and we are so glad that we found this beautiful home to stay in. It is a true tropical paradise. The home has it's own personal waterfall and lagoon which our son loved swimming in. I personally enjoyed the screened-in lanai with hammocks. It was a nice place to sit and just relax. The home is very well kept and clean. The neighborhood itself is nice and quiet. It was also great to meet Sierra and her boyfriend, both were very welcoming and sweet.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Mahalo to you and the family. It was a pleasure getting to know you all. I am so happy that you were able to enjoy the waterfall so thoroughly.. A hui ho!!

Not only is this house central to many outings, it is absolutely beautiful! The house has a sense of tranquility , you sleep to the sounds of coqui and the relaxing waterfall. We went in July of 2011 with our children and the kids really enjoyed exploring the property and thought that the waterfall was amazing which it is... The comfortable beds, the inviting kitchen and the breathtaking view all made it the most memorable place we have ever visited. You will not regret staying at this place ! It's like nowhere you have ever stayed at! Sierra is an amazing hostess! She helped us with planning our trip and directed us in the right direction. I would definitely go back to her place because it really gives you the true meaning of vacation! The market is a must and the filthy farmgirl soap there is a must! Sierra had some at her place and it we bought enough probably to last a year! We loved it, try all the scents! If your looking for an awesome message Sierra can also accommodate that need! Vacation place at it's best , for a family or a romantic honeymoon! You will definitely fall in love with this place! We did!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I visited the Big Island and wanted to stay in both Kona and Hilo. Well, we found this gym of a place in Hilo. The house is so clean and so beautiful. The first thing that made is AWESOME was private lagoon and waterfall. Kari and I were a little unsure about getting down to the waterfall and swimming area so Sierra(owner and host) along with her boyfriend gave us the personal tour. They showed us how to climb up the waterfall and jump into the lagoon. Also, above the personal waterfall was two more waterfalls and a pool. All I can say is AMAZING! The second thing that made it Rock was Sierra being a wonderful massage therapist. My wife and I both had a great massage. Thank you Sierra for having us in your wonderful home and treating us to ALOHA through massage! Thanks, ZackRecommended for: Adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This vacation home is located in an area with other very nice homes with beautiful landscaping. When I walked into the home, I was impressed with the furnishings and layout. It was immaculately clean and modern, and there were nice touches such as fresh flowers and specialty soaps around the house. We had everything we needed, including a furnished kitchen. What I especially enjoyed was the screened-in lanai and the view of the waterfall from there and all the way across the living room and kitchen. My daughter enjoyed swimming in the pool formed by the watefall, and I enjoyed smelling the gardenias while I watched the palm trees swaying and waterfall flowing. My daughter lives on the big island, so I imagine I will be staying in Hilo again when I visit, and I'll definitely plan on staying at Aloha Falls. I can't think of anything that would have improved my stay.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

I was very pleased with the cleanliness of the place. It is very spacious and open living space. Has wonderful, very comfortable bed! Listened to the croakies at night and birds in the morning. Great screened in porch off of living room to sit and listen to the waterfall with a wonderful view of the lagoon and waterfalls. I received two wonderful massages from the manager of the place. She is very sweet and very good at giving relaxing massages. It is located in a quiet, nice neighborhood. Surrounded by forest and very private. It is close to downtown Hilo. A cute little town. I really enjoyed my stay there and hope to be able to go back again some day.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is the disclaimer on VRBO....well...how about living here the last few months. I think I'm qualified This place is extra ordinary. Sierra the owner calls it Aloha Falls...I think this place is more like Pandora. It's amazing. The waterfall is just the start. Just the drive up the street to get here is miraculous. This island sliver of Hilo is super special. The property is outstanding. Sierra is a master care taker and will show you how to get down to the waterfall and you can see all that she is growing in the Valley. Swim, nap, sauna, yes there is a sauna and then swim again while you are here. The home is perfect. Just what you need, nothing you don't. You can walk to ALL of downtown Hilo, and sleep at night to amazing sounds of waterfalls and rain. Enjoy your time here!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

A beautiful and serene place of peace and inspiration. Stunning tropical jurassic-like jungle with cool, soothing private waterfall and swimming pond. Located close to the famous Hilo market where tropical fruits, vegetable, spices and gifts abound. Great well-equipted kitchen and the airy screened-in lanai is a terrific place to do most anything, read, eat, relax, play. The owner, Sierra, is a massage therapist and professional yoga instructor among other things. I highly recommend her services. This rental is great for a single, a couple, a family with small children or even a girls spa trip. Don't miss a day trip to Volcano. Inspirational, relaxing, healing. The place was so beautiful, and the energy feels really good there. Very relaxing, the view of the waterfall and pool below it, and the aina (land) around it is absolutely beautiful. Very precious. Also, Sierra is a beautiful soul, and it felt great to support her in her humble stewarding of the land. The house has a bit of a Zen, and very peaceful, feel. I've been living on the island for several years, and my mom was visiting from the mainland, so we stayed there together for a few nights. It cost a little more than some rentals, but less than others, and the little bit extra I paid was so worth it. I would highly recommend it to anyone... and have been recommending it already.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Kristen- you are too sweet! Thank you so much for your support. It is an honor to share space with such a receptive person. Thanks again for showing your respect to my home. I hope to see you soon playing around the aina.
