CASA NO AR/CASA DA LUA, PENEDO, COLARES, SINTRA, PORTUGAL (LISBON area). CASA NO AR sleeps 8/10 (ideally 6 adults, 4 children/teenagers. Swimming Pool and Beach. Four Bedrooms, Three Bathrooms in MAIN HOUSE plus One Bedroom and One Bathroom in POOL HOUSE.
CASA DA LUA can be rented together or seperately. sleeps 4/5 in 2 bedroom cottage, 1 bathroom
These cottages are set high up in the mountain, Serra de Sintra, a UNESCO World Heritage protected Natural park, and has breathtaking panoramic views to the mountains and Sintra, and to the Atlantic Ocean coastline. A five minute walk down to the picturesque village of Penedo, with its church square, village shop, café and bakery, and fountain that gushes fresh spring water.
Lisbon is a 30 minute drive, Cascais/Estoril a 20 minute drive, Sintra's historical center just 10 minutes, the nearby beaches of Praia Adraga, and Praia Grande (famous with surfers) 10 minutes, Praia de Guincho (for windsurfers) 15 minutes.
There are floodlight Tennis courts next to Praia das Maças, ten minutes, several horseback riding centres in the area, and within easy reach, 15 minutes drive, several of Portugal's best Golf Courses - Quinta da Marinha, Estoril Golf, Penha Longe, Baloura.
The Colares, Sintra area has an abundance of excellent restaurants - from simple local family run 'tascas' to more elegant dining with Portuguese 'haute cuisine,' and of course many fresh fish restaurants along the Atlantic Coast (A description of my favourite's will greet you!).
CASA NO AR is a 300 year old renovated typical country cottage... The MAIN HOUSE (sleeps 6/8) has a big farmhouse kitchen/ dining room with old flagstone floors, a big fireplace, and a wooden mezzanine with single sofabed. The kitchen is fully-equipped. To one side of the kitchen is the master bedroom (double bed) and bathroom, with old 'azulejos'(blue and white tiles), and two low-ceiling small attic bedrooms, each with a single bed and pull-out bed. To the other side of the Kitchen is a small double bedroom and en-suite bathroom.

Upstairs, reached by stairs made from on old winepress in the dining area, is a natural rock garden room, and the large Living room, with a fireplace, a guest bathroom with shower, a double sofabed, drinks bar and sink, and glass doors and windows leading to a covered varandah with magnificent views of the mountain and Atlantic coast.
On a higher level, reached through a natural well-kept garden is a covered barbecue area, next to the Swimming Pool (oval shaped about 7 x 5 metres). The POOL HOUSE (sleeps 2)has a fully glazed sitting room (single small sofabed), a kitchenette, a double bedroom, and en-suite bathroom with small bath/shower.
Adjoining
CASA DA LUA can be rented together or seperately. Sleeps 4/5 people in unusual open plan cottage (only interior door is the bathroom) on 3 different levels. Higher level Living/diningroom with fully equipped Kitchen; wooden stairs down to Living/sleepingroom with builtin double bed and single sofabed; spiral stairs down to double bedroom set in the natural rocks (originally old donkey stable)
ADDITIONAL RENTAL INFORMATION:
* Included: sheets, towels (bath not beach), electricity, water, gas, and the telephone receives calls and local calls only can be made. Wifi internet service available
* The maid is included weekly/upon departure for general cleaning, changing sheets and towels. Extra hours by arrangement.
* Garden and Pool maintenance weekly.

We enjoyed the "real Portugal" during our stay at Casa No Ar in Penedo. The gardens were stunning, the cottage was authentic right down to the antique farm table and benches and the hostess was very kind and very attentive. Our family of 8 enjoyed cooking meals in the quaint kitchen with hidden microwave and a dishwasher. The local grocery store was terrific and the owner spoke English. Driving up and down the roads gave us a terrific sense of adventure and made the trip exciting. We had a cooking class by the owners son, Antonio, and it was the highlight of my trip. Antonioºs restaurant, Bistro, is wonderful and only a few minutes from the farm. Sintra is close by as were beaches for surfing. All the gang agreed, "Casa no Ar is the real deal!"Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, pet owners, adventure seekers, families with teenagers.

About the owner: I was born in Hereford England...but travelled extensively before I found my 'utopia' in Penedo Portugal....a small typical Portuguese village set high up on the mountain with breathtaking Atlantic coast views, beautiful unpolluted beaches just 5 minute drive away, Sintra's historical monuments and palaces nearby, and a half hour drive into the capital city of LIsbon. My children were born and brought up in Casa no Ar, where there are still many of their books and games Anthony (born in 1983) now runs his own restaurant Bistro and catering business which is great for guests who wish personally delivered meals, a special dinner party or even small wedding gathering. Francis (born in 1985) is now a web designer with lots of famous California film star client...he is responsable for my own website a great help to promoting my properties. I now live next door, and it gives me great pleasure to see guests enjoying Casa no Ar...with its many happy family memories...winters around the big open fireplace in the country kitchen; barbecues around the pool in the summer...and lots of fun beach times.
