Five Acre Retreat, Great Location
- Minimum stay:3 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:No
- Wheel chair accessible:Yes
Our special and spacious five-bed / five-bath ranch-style home is located on five-acres in the estate area of Carmel commonly known as Jacks Peak. Although secluded and quiet, it is conveniently and centrally situated between Carmel and Monterey. You will be just minutes from anywhere on the entire Monterey Peninsula, yet surrounded by majestic oak and pine trees, with a huge yard in which to play.
Built in the 40’s, remodeled in the 60’s and recently updated, this home is perfect for family and multi-family vacations, corporate retreats, small weddings and other special occasions. It is a wonderful place to gather for a family reunion, anniversary or important birthday celebration. However, in consideration of our neighbors the property is not a venue for large parties or events.
All five bedrooms have queen beds and each bedroom has its own bathroom with shower. The house sleeps 10 comfortably. There is ample floor space and we have a couple of airbeds and mats to accommodate more, especially children, if needed.
Amenities include a cozy hot tub for two on a large deck off the master bedroom, with a custom-built in-ground hot tub for larger groups just a few steps away. Croquet, basketball, badminton, volleyball, bocce ball and Frisbee equipment are all located on-site and there is plenty room to play. There is a large front lawn that is seasonally green when rain is available. There is also a large brick patio with tables, chairs and fireplace that can be used in the winter. No outside fires are permitted during fire season (May - Nov).
Both the large living room and master bedroom have fireplaces. The living room has a vintage piano, two sofas, two club chairs, a corner TV and stereo. The French doors in the living room open onto a welcoming, bright, brick-floor enclosed Lanai with skylights.
The dining room has a table that is made for eight but will easily seat 10. Many a family gathering has led to improvised (yet cramped) seating for up to 14. French doors lead to a large backyard deck, which features a large table with six chairs, a small table with two chairs, a built-in bench and two lounge chairs. There is a five-burner gas grill and two propane heaters.
Off the dining room is a modest fully stocked kitchen with a large work island and windows to the wooded backyard. There is also a kitchen nook (host to many beautiful sunrises), with a small dining table, bench and four chairs.
The four bedrooms on the main floor, the living room, dining room, and hallways all feature oak hardwood floors. The kitchen floor is refinished fir. Area rugs are mostly oriental. Each bedroom has an attached bathroom, with shower.
The daylight downstairs has recently been renovated with new carpet and tile. It features a large, bright bedroom with a built-in desk and views of the garden, a bathroom, small 11 X 13 play area and laundry facilities.

After looking through a multitude of homes to select for our family vacation this one seemed like it would fit the 13 of us best. Pictures are always a bit misleading and one can be disappointed upon arrival. We were not! The pictures capture the place well. It was a perfect combination of comfortable, cozy, welcoming and secluded, yet close to anything you wanted to do! We had 6 little ones with 7 adults and it worked perfectly. The gardens are amazing and the home just like you would expect in Carmel. There is everything you might want to be comfortable and have fun. Although I do love staying in Carmel in order to just walk around, this home allowed for the children to play and the adults to just "be" in a secluded space. The beach was only 12 minutes away! Most of all I appreciated how prompt, professional and yet personal and helpful David was to any question or need we had. Flowers and coffee greeted us upon arrival. If there was any concern he was a call away! Over all it made our last time together as a family for the next three years JUST perfect! I would recommend it to everyone!Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

Our expectations were met or exceeded, everything was as described and the daily help we recieved was welcome. The home was well stocked and important things like a wonderful supply of firewood was always easily available. The property and the surrounding roads (very little traffic) were a pleasure to walk on. Town was close and convenient organic and general stores were also. You are close to the bay and yet feel remote, a very nice mix.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We had such a lovely stay at this home. There were 4 couples, so having 4 of the bedrooms on the main level worked out very well. Everything was exactly as described. While our husbands played golf each morning, we took walks in the neighborhood around the Jack's Peak area...the weather was beautiful and the roads around the home were not heavily traveled. We relaxed on the spacious deck in the evenings and cooked our dinners in the amazingly well-stocked kitchen. The living room was large enough for us all to gather comfortably to chat and listen to music or watch sports on television. The homeowners were very gracious and easy to work with. Altogether a lovely experience...thank you David and Patti!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

What a great and comfortable place for a reunion. Our group of ten adults stayed a week in early October. The in-house wi-fi permitted us to all communicate on-line with our friends and families. Our group consisted of people from Pennsylvania (4), Wenatchee, Washington (2) Ft. Lauderdale, FL (2) and Orange county, CA (2). There was adequate parking for 5 cars. The five bedrooms were nicely furnished each with private bathrooms. We cooked most of our meals at the house and used the BBQ on the back deck. The outdoor SPAs were great for relaxing at the end of the day. There were heaters on the deck to take the chill off sitting outside after dusk. The numerous trees on the 5-acre property around the house added to the feeling of privacy. Also plenty of birds (jays, woodpeckers, etc.) and squirrels frequently visited the bird baths on and around the deck. We even saw a deer. This great location permitted us to go on side trips such as: Carmel, San Francisco (via train from the San Jose Train Station), Monterrey Aquarium, Hearst Castle via scenic Highway 1, A 1.5 hr. scenic train trip through a redwood forest in nearby Felton, CA plus numerous other attractions. All of our group's five couples thoroughly enjoyed the house and its location.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, age 55+, sightseeing.

My twin brother and I celebrated our 40th Birthday at Jack's Peak Retreat. Both our families, as well as our parents and brother's family, were comfortable in the spacious Ranch style house. Jack's Peak retreat was a nice charming getaway, and close to downtown Carmel and Monterrey. There's a Whole Foods close by, and a Trader Joe's just a little further down the road (both less than 5 miles away). There's a nice hot tub that fits 4-5 comfortably (they have a smaller hot tub, but we never used it). The kitchen was charming and spacious. My brother and I had fun listening the the records they had at the house. You can tell that staying at a house that is used by the owners includes all these little charming details like a record player, a piano, as well as a basement full of croquet sets, games and sports balls. We didn't get to use the outdoor fireplace due to high fire season, but I imagine that Jack's Peak Retreat would also be perfect for the winter months; to sit by the outdoor fireplace or soak in the hot tub with a chill in the air. On warmer days, it seems kind of a shame to sit indoors, so we usually were out in Carmel or Monterey. Don't expect anything super fancy at Jack's Peak Retreat. I imagine it would appeal to outdoorsy Northern Californians rather than glitzy West Hollywood types. However, if you like the charm of a rustic 'cottage' (I say 'cottage', but the house is rather large. I only refer to the atmosphere of it), then this place will probably work for you.Recommended for: Families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

We are a group of five couples that have been using vacation rentals twice a year for 28 years. This house was one of the best we have experienced. It was spacious, with lots of places to sit and talk or read, and the setting among beautiful old oaks was very preaceful. We enjoyed a BBQ on the deck and sitting out there under the propane heaters. Weekend football and baseball playoffs were fun on the High-Def TV, with a crackling fire going. Eating out was very accessible in Carmel, Pebble Beach, Pacific Grove, and Monterey. It was convenient to have a bathroom in each of the 5 bedrooms! The house is well maintained, equipped, and clean. The owners take great care to make this a pleasant place to stay.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, adventure seekers, sightseeing.

We were a group of 3 couples and two singles on our 36th annual reunion, so this place was just the right size. The weather in early Sept. was excellent. The house is very well equiped. So much so that we ended up eating most of our dinner meals at the house. The house is as advertised and very clean. We had lunch at St. Tropez and a dinner at Rafferty's. Both excellent. It was a great reunion.Recommended for: Families with young children, age 55+, girls getaway, families with teenagers, sightseeing.

The house is in beautiful condition and we were able to accommodate our large family just fine. Every one was impressed with the beautiful location and the spacious surroundings. The house was clean and beautifully decorated and maintained. Our family truly enjoyed the weekend and we are planning on making this rental property a family tradition for years to come. We had a great time at this place. This property is conveniently located and the house provided many options...eat-in, eat-out, play out door games or just relax. The house is very roomy to accommodate our 3+ families. We relaxed and BBQ on the deck, played ping pong, played Mah-Jong, walked and explored the near by areas and also went up to the Jacks Peak Park. We also eat out several times in Carmel, about 10-15 minutes drive. It was a great week for all of us. The only one suggestion is the house should have some large size pots and pans.Recommended for: Romantic getaway, families with young children, pet owners, age 55+, adventure seekers, families with teenagers, people with disabilities, sightseeing.
Owner response: Jacks Peak Retreat is also our family home and is often used by us for holidays and large family occasions. These gatherings always involve plenty of kitchen time, family cooking and eating in. We consider our kitchen to be well equipped for large meal preparation. There is an eight quart multi-pot with steamer plus two large pots of 8 and 10 quart capacity along with a wok and numerous other pots, fry pans and mixing bowls of all sizes. At the suggestion of our recent guests we have added a five quart chefs skillet.
