Three bedroom house 2 miles from Na'alehu, Hawaii, 10 miles from South Point. Na'alehu is the southern most town in the 50 United States and contains the Southern most restaurant and bakery. The bakery has wonderful unique sweetbreads. There is a black sand beach 10 minutes away and it is another 20 minutes to the entrance of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The house is in an ideal location for exploring both sides of the Big Island. The Hilo side is the windward side and Hilo is the rainiest city in the country. There are beautiful parks and botanical gardens in and around Hilo. The Pacific Tsunami museum is in Hilo. The Kilaeua caldera within the national park became active again and spews volcanic output gases. Lava flows are on-again, off-again and can be most easily viewed, at this writing, in the Puna district about 1 1/2 hours drive. There are natural hot pools and Lava Tree State Park in Puna, about 1 1 1/2 hours drive. The national park is an easy 30 minutes drive from the house. On the Kona side, which is the much drier leeward side, there are beautiful beaches and wonderful SCUBA diving and snorkeling. There are numerous coffee plantations that can be toured within an hours drive of the house.
There is a green sand beach that must be hiked to from South Point and there are almost always fisherman and cliff divers at South Point. Punalu'u Black Sand Beach is 10 minutes drive and there is a decent golf course there.
The house is three bedrooms with comfortable queen-sized beds in two of the bedrooms and an full-sized air mattress in the third bedroom. There is HD cable TV, high-speed Internet access and a computer. The kitchen is fully equipped. The house doesn't have built in heat or air-conditioning and seldom needs either. There are portable space heaters for the occasional cool morning, but the temperature rarely exceeds 76 degrees in the area nor falls below 60. You will have all of the comforts of the city with the peace and quiet of rural Hawaii. Average rainfall in the area is 30 inches per year and the humidity is normally in excess of 80%.

This house is easy to find from the photos. Plenty of room and ammenities. Pretty garden, views from the lanai. Well maintained and very clean. Just like home. This location is good for exploring both sides of the island, South Point, and the volcano. We love the Punalu'u Bakery and had dinner at Hana Hou with local friends. Owner was helpful in answering questions. Would stay here again and have recommended it to friends. The weather on this part of the island is a favorite of mine, nice and warm during the day and cools off at night for good sleeping.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
