If you should ever choose to explore outside our 30-acres of heaven, there are some great local attractions in our area! Among our family's favorite activities are tubing or kayaking the Ammonoosuc River (the Wild Ammonoosuc feeds into this larger river), fishing at Beaver Pond in Kinsman's Notch, and hiking to Bridal Veil Falls in Franconia. The USDA is a great source of information on outdoor activities and trails. For sightseeing, the Town of Bath is known as the Covered Bridge Capital of New England and boasts 3 historic bridges, one of which (Swiftwater) borders our property! The quaint Bath Village is known for the Brick Store, aka 'America's Oldest General Store,' which features amazing homemade fudge, penny candy, smoked cheeses and meats, gifts and local products. Just next door at the ice cream parlor, At the Hop, you can browse music memorabilia while enjoying a cold treat. Ten minutes southwest of the property, the town of Woodsville offers all of the modern conveniences, including a hospital, grocery store, big box stores, shops, fast food, pizza, chinese food, laundromat, and bowling. A favorite attraction 15 minutes to the West is Lost River Gorge and Boulder Caves where you can explore the caves and waterfalls of the gorge. To our Northwest, in Sugar Hill, stop by for breakfast at the famous Polly's Pancake Parlor, featuring homemade maple products and breathtaking views of the Presidential Range. Be sure to call first and put your name on the waiting list! Stop by the nearby Sugar Hill Sampler for more views and locally made products, play nine holes at the Sugar Hill Golf Course, and visit Herman's Cheese and Country Store. If formal dining is more to your taste, visit the award winning restaurant at the Sugar Hill Inn. In nearby Franconia, be sure to visit the Flume Gorge and Visitor Center and the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway. This area also features free attractions, such as the Basin, the original site of the Old Man of the Mountain, and the 8.8 mile biking and walking path.
Thirty minutes to our West, the twin towns of Lincoln and Woodstock have a great number of attractions. Lincoln is the center for local tours, including Pemi Valley Moose Tours, Alpine Adventures zipline canopy tours, Out Back Kayak tours and DirtVentures ATV Rentals. Loon Mountain offers an amazing variety of activities year-round, including zipline tours, gondola rides, mountain biking and a bungee trampoline. Whale's Tale Water Park offers lots of wet fun and Hobo Railroad runs old-fashioned picnic train rides as well as a delightful hobo-themed mini-golf course. An old favorite, Clark's Trading Post has been in business since 1928. Clark's features an enormous gift shop, as well as several amusements and rides. Take a train ride (but look out for the Wolfman!), visit the museums, ride the blaster boats, and take in a circus act or trained black bear show! Rainy day, or just want to get out of the sun? Take in a movie at the Lincoln Cinema or a play at the Papermill Theatre or Chidren's Theatre. For dining, some choices include the Profile Dining Room at Indian Head Resort, featuring good food and amazing views, and the famous Woodstock Inn, which offers a variety of dining options. For a truly unique experience, climb aboard the Cafe Lafayette Dinner Train, where you can enjoy a five-course meal while relaxing on a two-hour train ride! There's something for everyone in this beautiful part of the state!
