CASA VILLA SERRA

(What are our famous guests saying? Contact us for our online guestbook address.)

Location, location, location. Plus sweeping 180 degree views over Lisbon's colorful city center and the Tejo River!

Would you prefer a house to an apartment? Worried about the raucous 3am Chiado/Bairro Alto nightlife? Want to be within walking distance to the main sights but far from hotels and the tourist crush?

Perched above the Praca dos Restauradores, this beautifully restored, historically-protected 19th century terraced home is exactly where you want to be . . . an 8 minute walk from the Rossio, Lisbon's main plaza.

(Our delightfully quiet, hidden lane consists of some of the very few private homes to be found in central Lisbon. The charming, famous neighbors are an added bonus.)

All your favourite sites are nearby: the Baixa and Bairro Alto, Lisbon's open-air 'restaurant row,' the Chiado shopping district, plus two of the best in-city "kid parks" in Lisbon. We provide customised walking maps to help you explore the city at your leisure.

Relax on the rooftop garden terrace with a glass of Vinho Verde, enjoy cocktails while you gaze across the city...

A 10 minute walk takes you down to the Rossio train station, where you catch a ride to Sintra, Fatima, or the medieval walled-city of Obidos. Or grab our beach towels and cooler and head for the beach. Not beach weather? Visit the Gulbenkian Museum, Belem, Oceanarium, Zoo...

POOL: We can arrange passes to our community pool, reachable only via a maze of 18th century outdoor staircases. ($3.50/hour, closed August).

Additional highlights include . . .

Dear Deb and Jordan - I had seen your website briefly but had not studied it. Susan was in charge and I was just marching to her drummer. So I am astounded at my great good fortune and blessing to have fallen into the hands and homes you and Jordan so kindly and perfectly provide. Your attention and care and suggestions were constant (when asked) and the two houses wee so beautifully furnished and equipped. I'm left no stone unturned in our happiness. We did everything we wanted to do - with ease and pleasure. I strongly recommend the Maritime Museum and the Puppet Museum. Both astounding. I'm also in love with your son (his quiet cheery good mornings) and your darling daughter and lovely smiling granddaughter and of course your bounding dog! So much love and gratitude for providing so perfectly for all of us.

Writing 2 days early; but this was one great tour. My daughter is non-stop as tour director. Your greeting on arrival and general hospitality from you and Jordan was most gracious. Our apt could not have been better. Most comfortable and good location. I love up hill walks so this made it even better. Come to Iowa anytime and see my retreat from this mortal earth. Kind thoughts and regards,

This was fun, despite the rain and the pick-pocket Chi beat off with an umbrella. The best provided and cared for place we've ever stayed. Thanks Deb & Jordan for everything -

Dear Deb & Jordan - We had the most wonderful stay at your lovely Casa Joaquina. It was truly an oasis in the middle of Lisbon. Our frequent walks kept us fit while working off all the cooking John did in your kitchen. You thought of every small detail - from the detailed directions, maps, cellphone, laptop, etc. Some days we found it difficult to leave the terrace - just reading and looking over the city. We enjoyed hearing all about the neighborhood, too. Should we come back to Lisbon, or Portugal, we will stay here again or perhaps one of your other properties outside of Lisbon. Ciao,

Many thanks for your wonderful hospitality. The initial tour was extremely helpful, as were your suggestions on where to eat. We loved our time in Lisbon, made even better by the fact we could walk to most places we wanted to see. Best wishes,

Dear Deb - We really enjoyed the central location of Casa Joaquina, we were able to maneuver around Lisbon from this location. All your input and extra care was really appreciated; fado night was very memorable and the Nepal Restaurant an excellent recommendation. Our time in Lisbon has gone by quickly, we still have more to explore and can not wait until we plan our next trip back. See you soon. Thank you.

Deb, Jordan and Kappa (of course) - We loved our stay at Casa Joaquina. Here are our round table memories... Joe, age 21: Great recommendations for local restaurants, stores, etc. Especially had fun playing soccer with Drex during half-time of the Portugal-Czech Euro Cup game. Renee, age 18: Best part was plopping down on the couch after walking my legs off around Lisbon. Liked sleeping in til noon because there's no light in the basement. Christine, age 17: I liked having all the amenities of home - like the internet - in one of the coolest cities I've ever been in. Pat, ageless: I can't think of anywhere I'd rather have spent my 54th birthday! We loved having a home as our base. Thank you, Deb, for the great tour, vinho verde, favorite cheese and fruit. Such a warm welcome. We will be back. Steve, age 53: I liked cooking meals in the incredibly well-equipped kitchen. Feels like home! Thank you! Visit us in Seattle!

Dear Deb - Thank you for your warm hospitality. Your tour was very helpful. Your suggested local amenities were all excellent. The cell phone was a great idea. We were very comfortable at Casa Joaquina. As cooks, we found the kitchen to be state of the art. We liked your decor very much. In short you gave us a home away from home in Lisbon. Lisbon we like very much. Very colorful, inhabited by kind courteous (except when driving) people. Fun places to see and eat. No wonder why you and Jordan like it here. If you can't find your beautiful dog, you'll know who has her. PS-Thank you and Jordan for your kindnesses concerning Rick. PPS-I know that your website is incredibly helpful and informative, but if anyone ever has any additional questions -- needing input from anyone who has stayed here, we would love to be references. We cannot emphasize enough how much we loved staying here. Delos is petting the dog as we speak, but she won't come in so we can't put her in the suitcase.
