We stayed at Promise Hollow during a busy wedding weekend and it was the perfect haven for our family in the times we could step back from the wedding activities. Everything was clean and in order, the kitchen was well equipped, and there were no surprises. We especially enjoyed eating breakfast on the front deck and watching all the birds that came to the feeders. So peaceful. My husband went for a couple of runs along the road and up on some nearby trails and enjoyed that. The owners were very friendly and responded promptly to our questions via email. We would love to come back sometime when we could really relax and enjoy all that the lovely area has to offer!

My experience from the beginning was great. The response to my questions were answered quickly & the information after the transaction was just as fast. I didn't know what to expect going in and to my pleasure everything was in order & we had a great time! I would recommend it to anyone!

Don't be thrown of by the title Rustic Mountain Chalet. The only thing rustic was the location...that word doesn't apply to the wonderful house. This was a perfect place for a reunion of 4 women in their 70's who went to school together K-12...it provides all you need to settle in and relax...and it's right in the vicinity of Goony Creek and Dismal Hollow Road...who wouldn't love that! Not to mention the low water bridge...which is a trip back in time. I've rented lots of houses, and the Weavers are the most generous landlords I've ever run into. The only thing I really missed was having some wine glasses...and I think that has been taken care of already! We provided our own meals so I can't give you any suggestions for local eateries. It is a rural location and is a wonderful area for people who want to get away from the fast-track and be refreshed by peace and quiet. We spent an afternoon in Luray and enjoyed lunch there and investigating wonderful small shops filled with country stuff, antiques and consignment articles.

Promise Hollow is nestled into an away-from-it-all yet very convenient location within Shenandoah. Front Royal is less than 10 miles away and Luray is just a little over 10. You can enter Skyline drive from either point, and if you need supplies or restaurants either place will have everything you need. For more common items, two convenience stores in Bentonville carry food as well. Also, Shenandoah River State Park is just a few miles away. The chalet itself is quite spacious, meticulously maintained, and is well-stocked with equipment. We made use of the charcoal grill and fireplace on each night of our stay. My daughter loved using the little art kit that was on the games and book shelf. The chalet even had its own supply of bird seed which we placed into the feeder each morning to have some breakfast company. The beds were very comfortable and all the provided linens were clean and in good shape. Plus, the view from Promise Hollow is quite beautiful; the porch is perched above the forest canopy, so that you can get a clear view of the mountains. Just another note in favor of Promise Hollow, the quoted price is for 4 adults and our children aged 4 and <1 (the master bedroom has a crib) did not count towards that number. Many of the places advertising on HomeAway quote a price for 2 adults and charge an additional fee per night for each extra person, so be wary of the quoted price from other landlords. Susan, the owner of Promise Hollow, is very responsive and very friendly. You will love your stay here! We certainly did, and Shenandoah was even more beautiful than we imagined.

Owner response: We no longer provide a crib, as most of our guests with babies preferred their own portable crib, and we donated ours to a needy family. This reservation was for 3 adults and 2 children, one of whom was a baby. We charged for 3 adults and the older child, not knowing that a 4th adult stayed. We do not charge for a baby which sleeps in a crib.

Promise Hollow was the perfect summer destination for our family vacation. We were minutes away from the Luray Caverns (a 400 million year old natural wonder) and the Shenandoah Valley National Park for great hiking. We drove an hour and a half to spend half a day at Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. About 40 minutes away is the New Market Battlefield State Park where we soaked a bit of history about the Civil War, explored the remains of the Bushong Farm, and toured the Museum. About an hour away is the Vienna/Fairfax Metro. We parked our car at the station and rode the Metro to DC, avoiding the infamous DC traffic -- easy and convenient. We got off at the Smithsonian right on the National Mall and promptly visited the Museum of Natural History, the National Gallery of Art, and the Air and Space Museum. We walked from the Washington Memorial to the Lincoln Memorial and took the Metro at the Foggy Bottom station for our return to the Vienna/Fairfax station. The walk to the Foggy Bottom Station took us into the heart of Georgetown University. It was tiring, but utterly satisfying. We drove 10 minutes into town to buy food and party supplies. The supermarket was stocked with everything you would need for a cookout. Promise Hollow was cozy, comfortable, and clean. The kitchen was well equipped. The porch was a wonderful place to relax. We grilled burgers on the grill, watched the fireflies at night, and listened to the crickets at dusk and birds in the morning. Promise Hollow is THE place to stay to enjoy nature's wonder and revisit history.

Situated close to Front Royal, just a short drive from Skyline drive, hiking and wineries, this was a great experience. The house is ideal for couples and families alike. It is clean, well furnished and complete with WiFi, HDTV, DVD and a well stocked kitchen, and affords ample privacy.

We sadly only stayed for 3 nights but wished it could be longer. the house is very comfortable and has all one would want/need for a get away. Only complaint is that there is no dishwasher but my husband took care of that!!:) screened in porch is perfect for enjoying a good book, wine or listening to the birds and the gentle rustle of the wind in the trees. Also a good location for early morning jogs with minimal hills. Very close to hiking trails. Front Royal has good restaurants, try the Sushi it was outstanding. We will certainly consider coming back to Promise Hollow

Owner response: Although the wide open deck isn't actually screened, I'm not surprised this guest enjoyed sitting out on it with a book. Promise Hollow is just the place to kick back and relax in whatever way suits you best.

Promise Hollow was an awesome place to spend a few days as a family while we explored the Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive. Everything we could have possibly needed was provided, and then some! The beds all had fresh linens and there were lots of cooking supplies so we were able to save money and cook some meals "at home." We used the grill one night and had hot dogs and enjoyed sitting around the large family table and talking. In addition to the cooking supplies like pots, pans, utensils; there were also lots of food staples provided. There were plenty of games for families like Apples to Apples and Cranium - both a few of our favorites. There is a tv, dvd player, vcr and some movies but to be honest, we never even turned it on! We spent our time exploring the area, playing games, and just spending time together. The place was a hit with all of our children, all boys, ages 15, 12, 10, and 1 1/2 and we definitely plan on returning. We also had the pleasure of meeting the owners as we were heading out - what a great couple! I would definitely recommend Promise Hollow to my family and friends. :-) One more thing, if you're heading to Luray Caverns and want to eat breakfast first, stop at the little Pancake restaurant in town (Luray) before you go. Really good food and the prices were so reasonable.

Owner response: It's wonderful what nice people rent our vacation home! We usually try to be absent so that guests feel like Promise Hollow is theirs while they stay. However, occasionally we meet guests, who turn out to be warm, friendly people every time. This family offered to help my husband move the heavy trestle table in order to put a new rug under it - a job we couldn't have done without them. An additional strong father and sons was all it took. We appreciated it!

I stayed at Promise Hollow for the weekend with a group of friends- we had a great time! It was very close to the Skyline Drive and Skyline Caverns. Really clean, nice fireplace, and lots of games! We had 8 people and the house could have fit many more. The kitchen was well-stocked and the condiments and coffee were much appreciated.

Owner response: We had a nice visit with this group of guests as they were packing up at the end of their weekend. They weren't intimidated by the noisy storm on Saturday night, and spent the brief electrical outage playing board games by lantern and flashlight. Fortunately, Promise Hollow is on a hillside and not subject to the flooding of vacation homes along the river.

We enjoyed four days at Promise Hollow together with our visitors from Germany. Planning the stay was so great because of the owner Susan's fast and helpful response to my questions and the professional handling of the booking. The photos and description about Promise Hollow suggest very well that you are heading to a beautiful place. Yet when we arrived and saw in real in what an amazing place we were going spend these days we got all excited and felt so happy. First thing was preparing for a birthday party. Promise Hollow has it all: barbecue on the terrace, fire place, esthetically decorated rooms, it is clean, perfectly maintained, it has a relaxing view... - some of us had spent times in vacation homes before but none they remembered being so functional and cozy, somehow remote yet well placed for activities. We did hikes right from the house - no car needed, we visited nearby Luray caverns, Shenandoah National Park, and we enjoyed tastings at a qualitatively outstanding vineyard in the Browntown area! A nice addition to the things that Promise Hollow offers was the possibility for the hobby astronomer amongst us to watch the night sky and place the telescope right near the red barn on a convenient open meadow. It is also a wonderful place for bird watching, sun bathing and meditation. We are looking forward to coming back with friends in summer!

Owner response: We're so pleased to add star-gazing to the list of activities our guests have enjoyed! We learned recently that the gas station store in Bentonville makes luscious sandwiches to order, too. We've owned Promise Hollow for more than 10 years, but our guests are discovering even more ways to enjoy it.

I took my Junior Girl Scout Troop to Promise Hollow for a long weekend "camping" trip. The girls had a wonderful time playing outside and enjoying the large deck overlooking the field below. I highly recommend this property for families and "kid-friendly" trips.

Owner response: Promise Hollow is ideally suited to groups with beds for a total of 14 people. Youth groups, religious retreat groups, office colleagues, family reunions, bicycling teams all find it a relaxing and comfortable vacation home. In addition to all the activities available in the area, we keep a collection of board games, books, and a few DVDs for indoor enjoyment. We have many visitors from the Washington, D.C. area, and have been lucky enough to welcome visitors from states all up and down the eastern seaboard and even a few from other countries.

We had seven Cadette girls and three adults stay at the property, and all had a great time. The girls enjoyed cooking their own meals, playing games, and just spending time together. The house was comfortable and clean, with plenty of room for everyone. We'd love to return sometime to take advantage of more of the outdoor activities in the area.

We had 7 men stay at Promise Hollow December 3-5 for a weekend of fellowship, prayer, and group study....and it was an amazing weekend! We couldn't have asked for anything better. The only problem for the entire weekend was that the walls weren't snore-proof! Not saying they were lacking in anyway, but two of the men were champions! Thank you Susan for allowing us to stay there...and you will see us again in a few months.

We used the property for a girl scout troop "cabin camping" experience. This is a junior troop so we felt that a cabin setting might help get the girls ready for a more traditional roughing-it experience in tents next spring. The girls enjoyed a wonderful hike thru Shenandoah National Forrest with Tim and Donna from Twin Creek Llamas. Following the hike, the girls had a great time with a scavenger hunt that sent allowed them to explore and enjoy some of the property surrounding the cabin. We enjoyed roasting marshmallows in the large fireplace and the girls were delighted with the large selection of board games provided in the family room. Finally, having Skyline Caverns so close by was great as we also squeezed in a tour there before we departed on Sunday. Lots of fun activities and so scenic!

The location is great. The house is clean and the perfect size for six adults. We had a girls weekend and loved the picnic style dining table, fire place and grill. One of the three bedrooms is half open in a loft style to the family room below, so if you're up early remember not to turn the lights on if someone in that room is still asleep. If you arrive at night, be aware that it is hard to see the driveway on the right, so just slow down after you see the red barn. I also appreciate how easy it was to coordinate with Susan about the trip - nice people make a huge difference with these things.

Our son is in College in DC and we were looking for a place to spend the weekend with him away from DC. It was perfect. We did some sightseeing, (Luray Caverns and Skyline Drive) and played a round of golf. The house was comfortable, clean, and well stocked with the basics. It was our first trip to the area and we will be back to explore the river & trails.

My family and I (husband and two girls 7 and 11) had a great time at your property. The week was spent relaxing and enjoying the beautiful view from the balcony (it was neat to see the deer in the backyard). We enjoying going on various hikes in the Shenandoah National Park and Shenandoah River Park. We also took advantage of the close proximity to DC and made a day trip there. This family got together from Ohio and northern Virginia for a 3-generation family vacation. They found it relaxing and enjoyed particularly the deck in the cool of the evening and the beautiful quilt in the master bedroom. They took a day trip to Mt. Vernon, drove Skyline Drive, and hiked the Limberlost Trail in Shenandoah National Park. They hiked the Bluebell and River Trails in Shenandoah River State Park, even the eldest member of the family - just before her 94th birthday!

Just a quick drive from the DC area. Everything was just as promised and better. This vacation home was well stocked with all the items you could hope for in a weekend rental as well as being comfortable and clean. We so enjoyed our weekend here of BBQing, watching the lightening bugs at night from the porch and fishing at the nearby state park. Our weekend was topped off by a perfect canoe trip - and the house is just a couple miles from two excellent canoe/tubing companies.
