We spent our summer vacation at Tattries cottage. Nice little place with great views of the lake. I have visited Opal lake since I was a child and my family enjoyed and fell in love with it as much as I do. We met the owners of the cottage and they were as nice as could be. Very helpful and always greeted us with a smile. We have stayed at other places in the area that were only slightly cheaper but not on a lake, not as big and not as nice. This was the first rental I slept well, the beds were very comfortable. The sun porch may cause fights over who is going to sleep there. At night there is the nicest breeze off the lake and it felt so good. Opal lake has to be the best kept secret in northern Michigan and anyone who stays here will enjoy the cottage and lake both. All in all I cannot think of one thing to complain about ( other than we had to come home). Also be sure to take walks around the lake and down ranger lake rd at night. very peaceful. Gaylod is very close and offers a lot to do. I strongly suggest eating at Michaywe In The Woods restaurant. Try the spinach dip, man was it good. We hope to buy on Opal lake in the near future but in the meantime we will be returning to Tattries cottage until we do.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, sightseeing, romantic getaway, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, adventure seekers.

Why the Owner Chose Gaylord:
Opal Lake is just south of Gaylord and within a three hour drive of most of Southeast Michigan. Gaylord is still like a small town in many ways, but large enough to offer restaurants, shops, movies and other conveniences within a few minutes of the lake. Gaylord is centrally located and many Northern Michigan Highlights are within an hour of Tattrie's Cottage. As well, some of the nations prime fly fishing is found in the Au Sable and other rivers head-watered in Otsego County.
The Unique Benefits at this Cottage:
This is a lakefront cabin, so the lake is the prime focus. The lake is small enough and remote enough to maintain that Up North atmosphere and yet large enough to enjoy boating, skiing and all water sports. Peace and quiet in God's Country: Northern Michigan. Life on Opal Lake is good.
