Charming Hideaway Near Downtown in Quiet Neighborhood
- Minimum stay:3-5 nights
- Internet:Yes
- Pets allowed:Yes
- Wheel chair accessible:No
Come experience why we love our life in Brykerwoods, a quiet, historic neighborhood within walking distance of the University of Texas and with easy access to downtown Austin. Within a 10-20 minute walk is everything you need: groceries, restaurants, cafes, bars, shopping, bus routes and much more. Get downtown for a $10 cab or jump on the bus and get anywhere.
Active souls will especially enjoy the location of this one-bedroom 'granny flat' located above our garage. Two blocks from your door is the entrance to Shoal Creek Hike & Bike Trail, which connects with downtown's Town Lake Trail, where you can walk your dog (off-leash in some areas), jog or mountain bike.
For cyclists, this location is ideal as there is a bike shop two blocks away (offering sales, service and some rentals) as well as access to many of Austin's best road cycle routes on the west side of town. Ask us about our favorite routes to explore the city.
This is a convenient location for those looking to visit their kids at UT or go to a UT football game or other special university events. The property is also within walking distance to Seton Medical Center.
For Austin City Limits, you can hop on the bus about a five-minute walk from the house and get dropped off right at the corner of Barton Springs and South Lamar, about 1/4 mile from the entrance to Zilker Park.

The husband and I needed a quick getaway from Dallas and wanted to stay on the north side instead of our typical South Congress preference; just our luck, Abby's flat was available! Our stay was FABULOUS. The price is great and the place is clean, not to mention sunny and adorable. It's small, but has everything you need. Who goes to Austin to stay inside, anyway?? The flat is a garage apartment (the garage doors aren't automatic, so there's no noise from that) that's set behind the main house, so it's away from the street. We walked our dogs a few times over to the Shoal Creek Trail, just a block away, which was really peaceful and everyone we met on the trail was really respectful and polite. The location is super-convenient to really everything - lots of GREAT restaurants and bars in the area and up on the North Loop. Getting downtown is just a short jaunt down Lamar. Abby gave us some great dog park recommendations. We took them down to Zilker for an off-leash day and they loved it! We'll definitely check this listing first next time we drive down for a weekend.Recommended for: Pet owners, romantic getaway.

My now-husband, dog and I recently moved to Germany for his job, before we left the country we wanted to spend a couple months in Austin near his family and friends while we planned our wedding and worked remotely. Abby and Brandon graciously rented us their adorable garage apartment for that extended period of time at a reasonable rate. From the moment we arrived to the day we left, they were incredibly accommodating and thoughtful hosts/landlords. Even though our stay was longer than most, they didn't skimp on hospitality, made sure we felt comfortable and had everything we might need at all times. Spending several months in this modest space was far easier than we thought it might be. It is open and airy, with great light at all times of day. The way it's decorated is calming and cheery, plus it was very clean and well furnished with anything we could want, we felt at home immediately. I spent the majority of my time here as I was the one tasked with wedding planning and preparations, and because the the space is so breezy and welcoming and the location is so convenient, I was happy to do it! This apartment is very well situated in one of the best established neighborhoods in Austin. I had never spent more than 4-5 days in this city before and fell in love with it almost immediately upon arriving. I had such a hard time leaving! It's close to so much, with a car or a bike you're a couple minutes to Central Market, major banks, tons of dining options (go to the Taco Joint for breakfast tacos, don't let the hoards of students or lack of decor dissuade you, they're the BEST), UT and all the shops and bars near campus. And from campus you're just a few minutes away from downtown. What we liked most about the location is that it's so close to the campus and all that it has to offer but just far enough away (and upscale enough) not to be full of students. I can't say enough about how much we loved this place and it's owners! We'd come back in a heartbeat, and hopefully we'll get the chance the next time we visit Austin.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

This charming apartment is just minutes from downtown, the college campus, and all kinds of great restaurants. Just a half-block away there’s a dog-friendly park full of hiking/biking trails and interesting rock formations. The kitchen is a real bonus -- well-equipped and cheerful, with a huge frig and lots of natural light. The table-for-two is surprisingly comfortable. The bathroom is small, but the water pressure is very good. Fresh flowers and a variety of books greeted us in the living room. The hosts are wonderful. They provided dozens of "insider tips" on restaurants, vintage clothing stores, bookstores, and live music venues. We would definitely stay here again.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway.
