I rented this house for 2 nights. The owner does not seem to be experienced in renting. He was slow to respond to emails and calls. I had to ask repeatedly for a contract and for instructions for the house even up to days before the planned weekend. Although the house is nice with a beautiful view, it was not clean. It was as if he just left for the weekend without preparing the house for renters. The beds were made and the bedroom rugs vacuumed but the floors were filthy with dust, dirt, and lots of dog hair. One bedroom smelled overwhelmingly of dog. Although many of us own and love dogs, we were not informed that the owner had a dog and one of our family members is allergic and had to take meds as well as sweep the floor. The dog's food and water dish were out with uneaten food. We had two babies (the owner was made aware) who were crawling around on the floor so we had to sweep it, creating piles of dust and dog hair. The owner did not clear any shelves in the full refrigerator and the dishwasher was also full, so we had no place to store perishable food for the weekend and were unable to use the dishwasher. The grill was old, rusty, and filled with ash and was unusable until I cleaned it to expose the vent holes. The bedroom that smelled like dog had no doorknob. One of the doors leading outside could not be locked. The master bathroom had no door and had a clear glass shower, so there was no privacy. No bedroom doors could be locked. The shared bathroom shower had no soap and the sink counter was filled with used hair care and other products, assumed to be the owner's daughter's. There was no wifi as advertised. We left the house cleaner than it was when we arrived. I emailed the owner that weekend that we needed to talk but he never called. When I checked my bank statement at month's end I saw that he had deposited my security deposit immediately upon receiving it instead of holding it and returning it to me as stipulated in the contract. When I called him he said he was waiting for me to call him before returning my deposit. He argued that he had cleaned the house despite what I told him about the filthy floors. In an attempt to compensate me he returned my security deposit plus $100. For less than $100 he could have hired a maid service to clean the house before renting it out. This house is not worth the hassle of dealing with the minimally responsive owner or the cost when there are so many others available. Not recommended.Owner response: These people wanted the house for only two nights. My minimum was 3 nights. I made an exception. All this is BS. They complained about the clear glass shower door. I think about 90% of master baths have glass shower doors that are frosted for privacy this is the master bath. Who do you need privacy from. I dont get it. As far as cleaning. I live in this house. I bought new linens for the Bed. This guy is a chronic complainer. I gave them $ 100 and I should not have. I not going to waste any more of my time responding to this picky jerk.
