A Magical Vacation spot! A delightful Spanish Colonial home, located in one of the World’ s most Magical towns, is available for the month of September.
The town San Miguel de Allende has been a protected historic center since 1920 and a United Nations Heritage Center since 2008. San Miguel de Allende is nestled in the mountains of Central Mexico at 6,200 feet altitude or 1800 m, providing one of the World’s best sunny and moderate climates year round.
The Old Historic Center, where our house is located has a population of about 40,000, including approximately 12,000 permanent expats made up of Americans, Europeans and Canadians like ourselves. San Miguel is very well integrated and the Mexican nationals are among the friendliest and kindliest people we have met in our world travels. The town was founded by the Spanish in 1543 and in the past few hundred years not much has changed.
We have narrow cobbled stone streets, beautiful architecture, no electric neon signs, no traffic lights but many old fresh water drinking fountains for the horses and mules. Yes we have a well trained Calvary helping patrol the streets on horseback, wearing 18th century uniforms.
San Miguel de Allende has been a Cultural and Artistic Centre for much of the past century. We have two Art institutes, Theaters and World class restaurants, from Mexican to fusion, from French, Italian , German to Vietnamese.
In the Conde Nast Travel magazine issue November 2008 San Miguel de Allende was voted one of the three top travel destinations in the Americas> The New York times recently published a Travel feature on the Town. Our home is only a six minutes walk from the Jardin ( the Town ‘s Main Square).
It has some breathtaking views from the bedroom balcony and the terrace of the town and beyond.
The house will sleep seven or eight persons, has 5 bathrooms, a back garden and a combination Guest house and Art studio at the end of the garden.
There is a Casita adjoining the rooftop garden with its beautiful view of sunset and . a very large Gas BBQ, making the roof garden a perfect place for a dinner party under the stars.
The views seem to go for ever as virtually there is no pollution here.
There are five gas fireplaces in five rooms, useful for the occasional cool night.
We have excellent satellite TV programs, from BBC from England,, Canada, and USA.
We have high speed wireless internet and a Vonage telephone with free access to US and Canada, in addition to our local telephone.
The home is beautifully furnished in Spanish Colonial style.
We moved to San Miguel from Canada in 2007 and live here full time except for our occasional trips overseas which is why our home is available.
We have been very happy in San Miguel
