Over the past four years, I have rented 8 different homes in the Champlain Valley, none more than 30 minutes from Middlebury. This Charlotte house is my favorite. It is comfy, very well-equiped with just what you need for cooking and entertaining, has CABLE TV (believe me, most of them don't) and has very nice yet simple bedrooms and bathrooms with roomy showers (another rarity) and even a tub. It is also in the most idyllic neighborhood with a great country store a half block away. Perfect for your coffee, scones and egg sandwiches each morning. The other really great thing is that it is conveniently located to great restaurants and shopping so you needn't find yourself driving 20 minutes just to get supplies or a tasty meal. Starry Night Restaurant -- 7 minutes away. Shelburne with its many great restaurants, stores, museums and farm -- 10 minutes away. Burlington, a mere 20 minutes. And the ferry to NY, just 3 minutes. Yet, when you awake each morning and gaze out over the incredible view of the Adirondack Mountains and Lake Champlain, you will feel that you are away from it all. My secret find was All Souls Interfaith Gathering which is a community center offering yoga and meditation classes in a setting that must be seen to be believed. Just a 10 minute drive or a delightful 30 minute bike ride away. You will enjoy this home in the fall (I can attest from my 6 weeks here) and I imagine all other seasons as well. The owner is the best and keeps his house immaculate. He is very helpful and responsive to needs you might have. You might notice some traffic noise from the cars traveling to the ferry in the morning, but it quickly begins to sound like the lull of the tide. And if you go, do not miss the Shelburne Museum. I think it is one of Vermont's great treasures.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had an enjoyable stay in this house with our 3 1/2 year old and 10 mos old for a vacation week at the end of the summer. Everything was perfect, and we echo the other reviews. Excellent location. Plenty to do in Charlotte and nearby in Shelburne and Burlington (to name a few, walks/hiking, lake/public beaches, wineries, sunflower and blueberry picking, ferry, really good restaurants, Shelburne Farms, and others, in addition to the usual tourist attractions). Enough to stay busy for a week, and even longer. Easy and quick access to the main roads made traveling to and from activities efficient. The house had everything we needed. The pictures fairly represent the house, and amazing sunset. Decent sized yard for ball playing, and local roads good for running/blading. And perhaps most important, dealing with the homeowner was always easy...extremely responsive and prompt. No need to look elsewhere. We'll be back.Did you find this review helpful? We had a wonderful week at this property ... The house is charming, relaxing, clean (!), easy, well-equipped, quiet ... all good. My family -- including 3 kids ranging from 9 - 12 -- found it a super-easy house to use as our base to explore the gorgeous Champlain Valley area. It's only 12 miles or so to Burlington and surrounded by orchards, farms, mountains and, of course, the lake. The bike riding and hiking in the area are amazing. From the windows of the house we woke to beautiful views of the mountains and ate dinner to stunning sunsets. Really a lovely property. It ranked as one of our very favorite rentals of all time. :)Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.

Friendly, diligent owner; wonderfully presented home; and, delightful architecture -- we would recommend this lovely site to our friends and family. The house was perfect in all aspects and met all of our expectations. The location was excellent. We were able to enjoy all that Burlington has to offer as well as take some very enjoyable bike rides on the quiet country roads. The house itself was magical in that within a few minutes of being there, we felt like we were home. It is well appointed and very "user friendly." Walking to the corner general store each day, whether it was for a a wonderful breakfast buritto or an afternoon smoothie, became a highlight. Working with the owner was extremely easy helped to make our stay one that we will remember for a long time. A good time was had by all.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We are unable to describe what a perfect home this was for our family to relax and enjoy our daughter's wedding. The 1st night when we arrived after dark we were absolutely blown away by the beauty of the views and the carpet of fireflies and star filled night that greeted us in the back yard. This home is so well appointed with everything that was needed for every event that came up. We had so many people showing up for almost every meal and yet the house was easy to clean up for the next arriving group. The beds were perfect to fall into each night and we never had a problem with needing anything to entertain. Thank you for making it possible to feel at home.Did you find this review helpful? Three generations of our family had the pleasure of renting this lovely home in Charlotte recently for my son's graduation from the University of Vermont. First of all, the view from this home is breathtaking..the Adirondacks, Lake Champlain are viewed from the kitchen, family room and master bedroom of the home! Unbelievable sunsets!! The home has beautiful wood floors throughout, great archectectural lines and a wonderful kitchen that is appointed for a gourmet cook. There are three bedrooms with comfy mattresses and the bathrooms are large and accommodating. There is a beach nearby in Charlotte with tennis courts, a nearby public golf course and a "step back in time" corner store that is a 2 minute walk down the road. If you take a walk..everyone that passes by.. will wave to you. Charlotte is a really friendly get-away. I guess the best thing I can say about our stay in the home at Charlotte is that it FAR exceeded our expectations. My family had a much better time at this lovely home in Charlotte -than staying in 3 hotel rooms and it was more memorable as well! Enjoy! Deb Cherry Hill NJ.Did you find this review helpful? In August 2011, our family of four (two kids, age 0 and 2) spent three wonderful weeks in this lovely home just a few minutes away from Lake Champlain. Our second child had just been born a couple of months earlier and this property provided the perfect country-side refuge to spend part of my wife's maternity leave. The photos of this home on the VRBO site, while appealing, don't really do justice to the charme of the house (great old wooden floors instead of the stomachpain inducing carpets all too common in many American homes) and the stunning views over lake Champlain you get from the kitchen/dining room area as well as the master bedroom. The house works very well for families and kids of all ages. The kitchen is very well equipped and even though we are proud and dedicated home-cooks, we weren't missing any tools. The only (and minor) downside to the house is that it doesn't have a porch or terrace and the 20m trek from the kitchen to the grill or garden-table can be a bit cumbersome if you're cooking elaborate dinners. The owner was extremely responsive, helpful, and respectful: all emails were usually answered within an hour and when at one point the grill broke down, he immediately bought an intimidatingly big new one. The "Old Brick Store" in Charlotte, which is just a hundred meters away from the house is a major asset, offering homebaked pizzas and muffins and making capuccinos that even my Italian wife would praise. And finally Charlotte is a great place offering a rural flair while being just 20 minutes away from Burlington. There are excellent restaurants and lovely state parks in the area.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Beautifully renovated, architecturally unique home in quaint, picturesque Charlotte with fabulous lake views. We stayed here with our 3 children ages 7, 4, and 1 -- the space worked quite well for our family. Highly recommend, and we would not think twice about coming back should we be in the area again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We spent a week in the lovely home for our daughter's graduation from Middlebury College. The house is very comfortably and well-furnished. While the weather was not ideal for enjoying some of Vermont's outdoor activities, there were plenty of comfy couches on which we could curl up with a book or play a game or visit with the family gathered to celebrate the occassion. We enjoy cooking and it was a pleasant surprise to find such a well-equipped kitchen. Dinners were enhanced by the view of Lake Champlain from the dining table. We also enjoyed meals out at The Bearded Frog, Barkeaters and Tourterelle. I would definitely recommend this home to friends and hope to return myself!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We rented this home to give us a place to stay during a friend's recent wedding. It is even more lovely than the photos and extremely well appointed. This house is truly comfortable and the views are amazing. It was also very clean and had a great layout. It has several sunny areas inside to read and enjoy a cup of coffee. The sofas are comfortable and ample. The bedrooms are spacious and restful and the bathrooms have plenty of room to lay out all your personal items. This place is a real jewel and a good value.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Peaceful, wonderful, perfect. My daughters and I were looking to get away over the Christmas Holiday to rest and recharge after a very long year. This wonderful little unexpected jewel was more than we had hoped for. We awoke Christmas morning and found ourselves cooking in a perfectly appointed kitchen overlooking the beautiful winter landscape outside a bank of windows that span the entire back of the house and Lake Champlain! The house is immaculate, the decorating is comfortable and very upscale country, the owner didn't miss a detail. Our only disappointment was having to leave! Oh, check out the Vermont gourmet package store and deli right down the street...you can walk there and if you come from the New York side, you will have to take a beautiful ferry ride from Essex, NY to Charlotte..the house is 5 minutes from the ferry...so convenient! Plus the owner is wonderful to deal with..you will not be disappointed at all!!! Enjoy your stay!Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Here's how much we liked the house. After one night, we contacted the owner and asked to turn our one week stay into a three week stay. Our son fell in love with the yard; my wife and I fell in love with the views. And the kitchen. And the short walk to the Old Brick Store. Bottom line, it's a beautiful home in a beautiful spot. Rent it.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We really enjoyed our stay at this house. The house is obviously very well cared for, spacious, comfortable, clean and well located. A short walk to the general store, beautiful views, nice yard, and very attentive owner. The listing and photos do accurately reflect the house. There are many things to do nearby - Burlington, vineyards, the lake, the Ferry and blueberry picking were just some of what we enjoyed. We would definitely bring our family back to this house againRecommended for: Age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Everything in the home was just as presented on the website. It was clean and well furnished and so nicely located. The homeowner was courteous and gave prompt attention to any of our concerns. There were so many attractions in the area to fill our week with interesting things to do, but it was also nice to have a spacious home to relax in and do nothing at times. This was so much better than a hotel. And so much more charming than some newly built time share!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Everything about the house was great. It was clean, spacious, nicely decorated, with beautiful views, and within walking distance of a friendly country store. We could bike 2-3 miles to the beach on country roads. The yard is big enough for ball games and has a large grill. The kitchen has all the equipment one needs, and linens and even soap are provided. Best of all the owner was a pleasure to work with, always answering emails promptly. We'd happily rent this house again.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My family recently stayed at the house in Charlotte, Vt. It was a great place overall. The kitchen is huge and inviting, ideal for hosting. I was pleasantly surprised by the outdoor gas grill with all of the needed grilling tools. The overall size and comfort of the place was ideal; plenty of towels, huge master bedroom, clean bathrooms. The yard is on a slight hill, but it wasn't bad at all. no spills for our 3 year old. The afternoon sunset views are spectacular The Old Brick Store is close by, as is the ferry to NY. The are good bike paths to take advantage of, and the place has a beach permit for the local lake access. i highly recommend it.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

We had 4 generations for a "mini" family visit - age range from almost 2 to almost 90. We were so pleasantly surprised by the condition of the house, it's cleanliness and the roominess. We loved the corner store and the very well stocked kitchen. The fall foliage was beautiful and getting more so each day. This was our second VRBO house and we will certainly recommend it to all our friends. Great location and lots to do in the area. A lovely house on a hill ridge with views of the lake and the Adirondacks of New York. Kitchen was wonderful for cooking; lots of sofas for sleeping (that is, naps) as well as three bedrooms, two full bathrooms, one half bath on the first floor. The whole west side of the home is a wall of windows to take advantage of the views. A short bike ride to the beach; lots of Farmers Markets in the area; short ride up to Burlington; a beautiful neighborhood for biking and walking. Highly recommended.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
