Why the Owner Chose Shelter Cove
Shelter Cove offers a beautiful, wild coastline, set against a backdrop of California Coastal Redwoods, with beautiful, black sand beaches, tide pools, abalone diving and great sport fishing.
The Unique Benefits of this House
While staying at our property we wander from the front of the house, gazing at the ocean, waves, whales, and migrating birds, to the back of the house, watching small planes, golfers, deer and Canadian geese. It is hard to figure out where is the best place to be gazing! And, harder still to get our chores done!

The pictures do not do this house justice. It is beautiful inside with great decorating. It has vast amenities and was very well stocked. Since we had some bad weather while we were there it was great that the house had so many various games, books, movies and magazines. Unfortunately due to the severe rain the house had some leaks when we arrived which were being taken care of with buckets here and there. It was not a big deal to us though. The only thing about this house that I did not like and that people should know is that there is no indoor stair case. The only way to get from the upstairs to the downstairs and vice versa is by using the outside stair case. This did not work out well for us because we had our two young children with us, ages 4 and 6, that we planned on having sleep in their own separate rooms. Since those two rooms were downstairs and the master upstairs, our children had to sleep on the couches. Just something to think about. The views were great and the house was very clean upon arrival.

I remember when we had this house for sale. I was sooo sad, but luckily we still own it and it's now for rent! This house and Shelter Cove altogether is the ONE place I call home. I love it there. When I go I never want to leave. I get the WHOLE downstairs to myself! Well, unless my siblings come along. -_- Haha. I would go to Shelter Cove every summer until I moved to Texas. Sad face. I remember I had one of my birthdays in Shelter Cove, and we celebrated MANY Christmas' there as well. I love Shelter Cove and can't wait to go back. When I have a family of my own, Shelter Cove is the first place I would take them. I hope to live there one day. I love you Grandpa and Penny! Yes, I'm one of Larry and Penny's grandchildren. Amanda.

The home has everything you need in order to entertain or just kick back. Penny was easy to work with and everything was as described. The weather served up an exciting mix of beautiful warm sunshine to wind and then a little bit of drizzle and gray. The black sand beaches are spectacular and tidepooling was wonderful. I highly recomend this rental....just don't book when we want to come back.

The property was as described in the add (except that we did not realize that the upstairs and downstairs were not connected internally, and the only television is downstairs). But four months after we rented the property, and after Penny informed us that there were no additional charges, we still have not received our $300 deposit back, even after multiple telephone calls and emails.

Great weather, great company and great quiet location near the ocean… But I haet the drive between Redway/Garberville to Shelter Cove.. Yuck! CarloLove it. dined at the Cove Restaurant. Shared the funny story about Sammy (4/30/04). She didn’t think it was funny. She is Sammy’s wife! Oops!!The road from Garberville is the best! Drove over it a couple of times just for fun, and because it drove Cathy crazy! The house, companionship and the view were all great. Thanks for letting us share your retreat.JimThank you, ear Penny and Larry for allowing me to use this beautiful place.Love, Carlo

Added from an email: It truly is a beautiful little slice of paradise up there and we were able to enjoy the slow pace and natural beauty of the area. While we didn't see any whales, there were some deer running around and of course the sea lions, geese (I think) and other birds were a real treat. The weather was good, with some rain on Thursday night only and a lot of wind on Friday. All in all, it was a very relaxing extended weekend and I hope to visit again in the future - perhaps for a longer stay. Thanks again, Bill

Added from our guest book. Lynn got us all organized for this weekend. The house was perfectly set up for folks to do their own thing. There are not many things more enjoyable than hanging with good friends in a great place. Thanks a heap! Matt W.
