This home is well decorated, clean, and comfortable. It is located conveniently close to the ocean. There are homes in front of the place, but one can still enjoy the waves crashing onto the shore. The only surprise was that the upper unit and lower unit did not have an internal staircase between them and you needed to take the outside stairs if you wanted to go to the lower unit. The two units would be perfect for a family since the parents could take the upper one with the master bedroom and full kitchen, and the kids could be downstairs in the two bedrooms (1 bath) with the partial kitchen (refrigerator and microwave). Owner very helpful and friendly before and during our stay.

Our week in the Cove began with the peaks coated in fresh snow and a breathtaking view of both the North and South coasts. Despite the dismal weather forecast for the week of our stay, there was only one drizzly day, a perfect day to enjoy games and movies with a fire going! We are cooks so unnecessarily brought lots of pans and utensils and spices, etc. The kitchen is very well equipped and the home is well supplied with all the necessities. And the location is fabulous, within walking distance of the restaurants and tidepools. All the games you could want and lots of movies and books available for the quiet nights. And the owners are so nice and easy to deal with. We will definitely plan to stay here again! Thank you for sharing your lovely home!

Tranquil with sights, scents, and sounds of ocean audible from the balcony. House well furnished and very comfortable, and equally well stocked with good linens, blankets, towels, and all kitchenware. Woodburning fireplace, jacuzzi, and hardwired internet are the bonuses. Recommend without reservation for couples or families, alike. Penny was responsive from the go, and met all requests with aplomb; she could not have been more gracious or attentive. In short, these people and their house excel. Enjoy!

The pictures do not do this house justice. It is beautiful inside with great decorating. It has vast amenities and was very well stocked. Since we had some bad weather while we were there it was great that the house had so many various games, books, movies and magazines. Unfortunately due to the severe rain the house had some leaks when we arrived which were being taken care of with buckets here and there. It was not a big deal to us though. The only thing about this house that I did not like and that people should know is that there is no indoor stair case. The only way to get from the upstairs to the downstairs and vice versa is by using the outside stair case. This did not work out well for us because we had our two young children with us, ages 4 and 6, that we planned on having sleep in their own separate rooms. Since those two rooms were downstairs and the master upstairs, our children had to sleep on the couches. Just something to think about. The views were great and the house was very clean upon arrival.

The home has everything you need in order to entertain or just kick back. Penny was easy to work with and everything was as described. The weather served up an exciting mix of beautiful warm sunshine to wind and then a little bit of drizzle and gray. The black sand beaches are spectacular and tidepooling was wonderful. I highly recomend this rental....just don't book when we want to come back.

The property was as described in the add (except that we did not realize that the upstairs and downstairs were not connected internally, and the only television is downstairs). But four months after we rented the property, and after Penny informed us that there were no additional charges, we still have not received our $300 deposit back, even after multiple telephone calls and emails.
Owner response:The deposit was not refunded due to smoking clean-up. It is clearly stated that the home is a non-smoking facility and there will be additional charges for extra cleaning due to smoking contamination.

Added from an email: It truly is a beautiful little slice of paradise up there and we were able to enjoy the slow pace and natural beauty of the area. While we didn't see any whales, there were some deer running around and of course the sea lions, geese (I think) and other birds were a real treat. The weather was good, with some rain on Thursday night only and a lot of wind on Friday. All in all, it was a very relaxing extended weekend and I hope to visit again in the future - perhaps for a longer stay. Thanks again, Bill

Copied from an e-mail: We had a great time. Your home was wonderful. It worked out great having the upstairs bedroom for my son and his wife and their 6 month old. They were able to have more peace and quiet while he was sleeping. We loved the Shelter Cove area. The weather was mostly foggy, but what a relief from the Sacramento 100 degree heat. The ocean was magnificent and we spent a lot of time combing the tide pools. We also golfed a bunch. The worst part was having to leave and come back to the "real world". The pace is much slower there which was fantastic. Thanks again and we hope to go back again to this area.

Copied from our guestbook" We had a lovely week escaping from the heat of the Sacramento Valley! Beautiful scenery! Enjoyed the wild life, the tide pools, the "deadly" black rock beach, the golfing - nothing not to enjoy! We even enjoyed the fog most of the time - only got a couple of glimpses of the amazing star sky at night. Everyone - old and young - had a great time. Thanks for making this house available, for all. Your help before our arrival& helping us find the Lost Coast! Sincerely,

Copied from our guestbook: I don't know what has delighted me the most - the little yellow finches playing in the tall grass or the river otter playing on the shoreline. It's good to see tidepools with life still in them. The sun greeted us when we arrived last week and didn't show itself again intil late yesterday but this a.m. is glorious, bright & dewey! Long walks, good company, lts of naps in the fresh air, this has truly been a memorable vacation for us. Thank you so much for sharing your little piece of paradise with us. It's just been the best! Copied from an email: Hi Penny! We had a terrific time. You've got a wonderful house, and we loved Shelter Cove. We explored the cove, the beaches to the North, and the tide pools at low tide; our daughter played with the 7 year-old next door, and I surfed 4 glorious mornings at Deadman's Reef! Thanks for the comprehensive information you provided, and helpful directions and instructions. We'd love to go back sometime. Anyway, thanks so much, best wishes for a great Summer. Cheers

Copied from our guestbook: This place kicks ass! You can look out one window and see a plane take off and rise right before your eyes into the blue sky. You turn around and look out on the back deck to see waves crashing against the dark rock. Another window you look at the forested mountains in the distance. And that's just sitting inside your house! The beaches are filled with their own majestic mystery, sheer cliffs that look down to a beach of black rocks, each a different shade of coal, and then the waves come, slow in the distance, and menacing as they crash against the rocks, spraying a salty mist as the tide recedes. You guys are so lucky to have found a place like this, where dreams and reality mix together. Thanks for sharing. I found two abalone!

Copied from our guestbook: I first came to Shelter Cove with Herb in February 2002. In all of our subsequent visits, I have never ceased to be struck with awe at the sheer beauty of this area. Our drive to Needle Point Rock, though rugged, was well worth it. From there we walked about a mile to Jones Beach. It was one of the most beautiful and tranquil walks I have ever experienced. We always find something new each time we come. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with us.

I remember when we had this house for sale. I was sooo sad, but luckily we still own it and it's now for rent! This house and Shelter Cove altogether is the ONE place I call home. I love it there. When I go I never want to leave. I get the WHOLE downstairs to myself! Well, unless my siblings come along. -_- Haha. I would go to Shelter Cove every summer until I moved to Texas. Sad face. I remember I had one of my birthdays in Shelter Cove, and we celebrated MANY Christmas' there as well. I love Shelter Cove and can't wait to go back. When I have a family of my own, Shelter Cove is the first place I would take them. I hope to live there one day. I love you Grandpa and Penny! Yes, I'm one of Larry and Penny's grandchildren. Amanda.
