Treat Your Family to An Authentic South Padre Island Beach House Experience
Location: Other South Padre Island Properties, South Padre Island, Gulf Coast, Texas, USA (30 Minutes from Brownsville Airport - 45 from Harlingen)
Accommodations: House, 6 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 4 Baths (Sleeps 14-18)
Keywords: "Beach House", Retreat, "Gulf of Mexico", "Red Parrot", "Reunions", "Sleeps 12+"
Red Parrot (RP) is an authentic beach house—up on stilts. It’s actually two identical layouts joined by a connecting door and the 4 entrances on the wrap-around porch. You can rent the entire house--or half.
Each side has a master bedroom w/ bath, 2 add’l bedrooms, a 2nd bath, a kitchen and living area. The bedrooms sleep 14 on good, comfortable beds. There’s room for 4 more on sleeper sofas in the living areas, if sleeper sofas meet your comfort standards.
RP is well built—there was no damage from Hurricane Dolly, which tore up most of South Padre Island in 2008. Construction crew chiefs who were rebuilding other homes and condos lived at RP for 6 months post-Dolly.
Half a block from the Gulf beaches—on a quiet residential street—117 E. Georgia Ruth (Google it), RP is a short walk from a convenience store, shopping, restaurants and entertainment.
You’ll love sitting out on the porch and feeling the ever-present Gulf breeze. You can open the windows to enjoy the breeze inside.
If you are looking for plush, Red Parrot may not be for you (it is charming, but utilitarian--great for kids and housebroken pets). If you have anyone in your party who has difficulty walking up a flight of stairs, RP will be a challenge.
If you want a great spot for a large family and/or friends get-together, try it. South Padre Island is a special place, and Red Parrot is a great base from which you can launch your daily adventures. It's also the perfect place to rest up, regroup, and nourish yourself in preparation for your next magical day (evening).
Truth in Advertising: You can see the Gulf from a couple of rooms and from the back porch, but to get the kind of water view you deserve, you’ll have to walk a half block, kick off your shoes, and let the warm SPI sand sift through your toes.

Owner's Profile
Owner Description
Year Purchased: 2007
We are retired grandparents. Our home is on a lake many people visit when they are on vacation. We enjoy family, duplicate bridge, and travel--and we are always glad to return to our home base. Our second home is on beautiful South Padre Island, where the pace is slow and nature's beauty abounds. Julie is a bridge teacher and director--and a fabulous cook. Fred enjoys singing, telling jokes, boating, and eating great food. We love SPI, and think you will, too
Why the Owner Chose Other South Padre Island Properties
We bought Red Parrot because we found it to be charming. It is centrally located--near everything we might want on the island. And the island affords beautiful beaches that stretch for 20 some odd miles. You can drive on to the beach and travel to areas where there are no other humans--just you, some critters, majestic dunes, shells, driftwood and whatever else has washed up during the night. Red Parrot is our base from which we travel the island--and periodically sojourn to other sights available throughout the Rio Grand Valley and in Northern Mexico, just a stone's throw away. And if you like fresh seafood, this is a great place. If you love fresh produce, some of the best is grown here, too; those Texas Ruby Red Grapefruits are uniquely delicious--the best grapefruit we have ever had.
The Unique Benefits of this House
What is unique to the Red Parrot experience. For us it is the quiet togetherness we feel as we go about enjoying our days in and around Red Parrot. That's not to say there's no excitement or TV, movies, the internet, and so on to entertain us. It's that we choose to spend the time here with each other, walking the beach, enjoying the wonderful and inexpensive restaurants here and just across the bridge in Port Isabel--or reading a book on the porch or on the beach.

We just got home after spending the weekend at the lovely Red Parrot. We made a last minute decision to get away (read: last week!) and Fred was so helpful and accommodating that it made everything smooth and easy. We had a fairly large group (ten adults) so we rented both sides of the Red Parrot and we're so glad we did. Everyone had a comfy place to sleep and with four bathrooms, we didn't have to fight for the showers. We really enjoyed the large common areas for those late night chats and having two well-stocked kitchens (plates, utensils, etc - not food) was a major plus in allowing us to prepare meals at home. The description is spot on: this isn't the Ritz. It's a quaint beach house with lots of character. But it's clean and comfy and that's what we needed. We loved the location - it's about a block from the beach, which was perfect for popping home to grab forgotten items or to rinse off. We liked that there was plenty of parking, as we noticed that several other houses on the same street didn't offer as much. The outside shower came in handy for getting sand off our feet and beach toys and we got some great use out of the available grill. We would definitely recommend this home to our friends and we hope to visit again next year!

Our stay at Red Parrot will be unforgettable. The stay was great, everyone was comfort, we loved the porch view; every morning for our stay we all met on the porch and enjoyed the morning breeze. The location to the Beach was great. My Husband & I were Married on the Beach that weekend, just minutes from the Wedding Ceremony. The Wedding Reception, our first dance as husband and wife; at the Red Parrot. :-) This was a wonderful place to have a Reception We talking about having a Couples get away and everyone want to come back to the Red Parrot. Thank You Mr. & Mrs. R. Winters, Jr.
Owner response:We are glad your stay was so memorable, and that it helped to make your wedding weekend so special. Congratulations. As a Red Parrot alumnus, you now qualify for a 10% discount on future rentals. We hope to see you soon. Best wishes, Julie and Fred Halperin

I stayed many times at the Red Parrot. As a former owner of the Parrot, I hosted school groups, girl scouts, church groups, college groups, fisherman, kayakers, and many family reunions, wedding parties etc. Rare is the guest of the Red Parrot that has not had the time of their lives, and many returned for a second visit or more. My favorite Red Parrot activity -- sitting on the front porch with a glass of port, listening to the sounds of the ocean in the dark.
