Colorado Springs cabin description
Welcome to our mountain getaway retreat in the city, located in beautiful Bear Creek Canyon at 480 Bear Creek Place, Colorado Springs, CO 80906! Minutes on side streets from Downtown, Old Colorado City, Manitou Springs. No one seems to believe me when I say how near we are to everything you'd want to do in the Springs, yet you feel like you are away from it all!
This light, bright, romantic, fully renovated 900 square foot 1890's Miner's log cabin borders miles of parks and open spaces. It has wonderful character and features authentic pine paneling and some exposed log walls. There are Austrian Pine floors throughout, vaulted ceilings, a stone wood-burning fireplace, and full updated modern kitchen (Bosch Dishwasher, Kitchen Aide fridge, Kenmore Gas stove & Kenmore stackable washer/drier), complete with everything you could want for a fabulous vacation! The antique oak dining room table can accomodate up to twelve people when the four leaves are added. There is a lovely bathroom with heated tile floors and a travertine marble tub/shower enclosure. There are good air-conditioners in both the living room and the bedroom (which cool the whole cabin), and the cabin is very well insulated, so it cools down beautifully at night if you prefer to leave the windows open. In the daytime, simply close the windows and the cabin stays pretty cool. There are also skylights in the living room so it is very light and cheery!
The bedroom has a queen sized tempur-pedic bed and is super comfortable. There is a pullout queen size sofa bed in the living room with a brand new very comfortable foam matress, so the cabin can accomodate up to four people in those two beds. We have recently added a twin bed in the alcove off the bedroom. It has curtains that can be closed to separate it from the bedroom and can sleep one more person, but access is through the bedroom. Note: The bedroom walls do not extend all the way up to the cabin's cathedralled ceiling, so the bedroom is private, but not sound-proof. (I hope that makes sense)...
The cabin is furnished with wonderful antiques. There are even antique toys (have fun with them!)... There is a large bookcase full of art books, novels and interesting coffee table-type books. Lots of great artwork. There are two televisions, a 40' Flat Screen Sharpe Equus in the bedroom with a DVD player and a 20' flat-screen TV in the living room. Both TVs have full cable TV service. The cabin is also set up for wireless internet access so you can sit outside on the patio and surf the web...
We allow pets, but if you are going to be leaving your dog in the cabin while you are out, we ask that the dog be contained in a pet kennel if it is a chewer or a pee-er... So, please let us know if for some reason you need a kennel during your stay and we will try to accomodate your pooch.
Located in spectacular Bear Creek Canyon, (one of two canyons in Colorado Springs), the cabin is steps from a lovely creek, wonderful hiking, picnicking by the creek, biking and exploring, yet less than five minutes from historic Old Colorado City and exciting Manitou Springs with their wonderful restaurants, shopping, supermarkets and galleries. Garden of the Gods park, with its exquisite red rock formations, is a must see and it is less than 10 minutes away with a fantastic visitor's center. Downtown Colorado Springs is just a hop, skip and jump away, as well... The Air Force Academy is about 25 minutes north of us, and Colorado College is about 10 minutes away in the downtown area. The Olympic Training Center is east of the cabin and less than a fifteen minute drive.
Bear Creek Nature Center is right down the road, a wonderful place to take the kids! There is also a beautiful zoo less than 15 minutes away near the historic Broadmoor hotel (a great place to go for a drink or a meal or just to walk around the gorgeous lake at the Broadmoor). The drive up Pikes Peak is also a great day trip, and the road to the top starts about 10 minutes from the cabin. Also in Manitou Springs is the Cave of the Winds, and the Cliff-dwelling museum, both great day trips with kids.
The cabin is at the very end of Bear Creek Place, a quiet dead end road, and has only 4 houses nearby, with lovely, quiet neighbors. There are no streetlights on Bear Creek Place, so it is totally dark at night, perfect for stargazing.
The cabin has limited parking so two cars maximum, please. Getting into the parking area in front of the cabin can be a bit of a maneuver, so you have to be careful when pulling up...
Cancellation Policy: 100% refund if cancellation is 60 days or more before arrival date. Cancelling 30-60 days before arrival date will result in forfeit of deposit. Cancelling within 30 days of arrival date is non-refundable unless we are able to re-book those days. There is a $50.00 processing fee for any cancellations.
Another note: Cell phone reception can be somewhat iffy... Texting always works. Sprint (which I have) works but you may have to move around to find a good reception location. Verizon seems to work better than Sprint. We have a land line for your use and all calls (local and long distance in the US) are free.

A rare gem
A rare gem
We stayed at the quaint cabin, don't be fooled by the exterior look. This cabin has it all, close to the city but yet close to the mountains just up the road. A comfortable distance from everything you want to see, with some great resturants close by. It is a real gem , once inside you'll fall in love with the preserved old feel, but it has all the modern conveniences you'll need. Truely a great little place to stay.

Great Location and Loved it
Great Location and Loved it
My family thought that this location was perfect for our vacation. The cabin was rustic on the outside, and the great room on the inside. It was very clean inside and well stocked with linens. It also was very modern with the Bathroom and Kitchen areas. My husband and I were quite comfortable sleeping here with our 2 teenagers (boy and girl) and our small Dachsund for a whole week. It was just enough off the beaten path to be quiet and peaceful, but close driving distance to Bear Creek nature center, dog park, Garden or the Gods, Pikes Peak, Red Rock Canyon, and Old Downtown Colorado City. I would come back again as the owner Mark, was wonderful and helpful with all of our questions. This was a very nice and wonderful experience with hiking trails up the canyon nearby, and on our last night driving back from dinner we saw 3 bear cubs scamper across the road in our headlights. We will remember this place, and would loove to come back again.

What A Perfect Getaway!!
What A Perfect Getaway!!
This cabin was one of the cutest rentals I have stayed at in my yearly travels to Colorado! Mark is great to deal with! It had everything you could hope for and the tempurpedic mattress was soo very comfortable! The location was literally only 6 miles from Manitou Springs as well as close to all the other major attractions but at the same time it was not in a very populated area so you still feel very close to nature if you know what I mean. Our two dogs loved staying there as well ( we used our baby gate to keep them confined to the kitchen area) while we were on our excursions during the day. This cabin will not disappoint! Thanks very much Mark and we hope to stay with you again in the future!

ideal cyclist and trail runner location
ideal cyclist and trail runner location
My family of 4 stayed here for a week. I am an avid cyclist and my husband is avid trail runner. We were both thrilled that we could take off from the front door and enjoy well traveled and well maintained roads and trails. In fact, I've been told these bike routes were a regular training area for Lance Armstrong. Just around the corner is Cheyenne mountain road full of even more trails on the way up to Helen Hunt Falls and the top of a very cool mountain bike path known to locals as "the chutes." Not too far away is more popular areas such as the Garden of the Gods (kids LOVE this) and Red Rock open space also great for hikers and mountain bikers. The touristy part of you is satisfied with a short drive to Manitou for shopping, eating and ice cream (mocha java jolt please!). The house was very comfortable and had everything we needed. My daughter absolutely loved the tiny room off the master which she claimed as her own. All beds were comfy, there were plenty of towels stocked, the kitchen had every pot and pan and cooking device you might want, spices, and coffee plus a very nice washer/dryer which we used to cycle through our favorite clothes. There's a peaceful front patio ideal for morning coffee and a larger back patio with ample seating and a grill which we made use of. You know you're near the mountains when raccoons and deer are common place across the driveway. I would suggest the owner install a humming bird feeder to bring the frequent visitors a little closer.

This was the absolute most wonderful place to stay, hidden away be so close to everything you would want to go do around Colorado Springs. Everything was amazing during our stay and it is by far way better than an hotel I have ever stayed at, very nice a quite. We enjoyed sitting on the patios every evening enjoying the peacefulness after our days out adventuring, that did not end when we were at the cabin. The creek down the road was very lovely to take an evening stroll by and around the trails near it enjoying the wonderful scenery. The cabin was stocked with everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay and the antiques and other furnishings were wonderful to look at explore. The wildlife was amazing as well, as we had a very friendly raccoon show up every night we were there. I would recommend this lovely place to anyone, Mark was amazing and will answer any questions you have. I can't wait to go back and spend more time there myself!!

We visited the Colorado Springs area with our two adult children. The cabin was everything it was advertised to be---great location, scenic views with trails close to cabin.I loved going out to the back patio to eat breakfast every morning before staring the day. It was great to have a washer and dryer on site. It was furnished with all the comforts of home--even laundry detergent, shampoo, and conditioner. Our family played some of the games that are provided in the cabin, as well. The antiques were fun to look at. We called Mark a couple times with questions and he was very friendly and courteous. I would highly recommend this location. The only minor drawback is the driveway. It's a bit tricky, as stated in the description of the cabin.

With three boys 9, 10, & 12 vacations require lots of stimulation and activities. The property we stayed at fit the bill perfectly. Trails into Bear Creek Canyon Park are right down the road. The boys loved hiking into the canyon and up into the mountains. (Being from Kansas mountains are a big deal.) It was a lot of fun being tourists and the proximity to traditional tourist attractions is incredible. Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, & Pikes Peak are less than 30 minutes away. The cabin was impeccable and more than comfortable for our family. It was really nice being able to spend the day sight seeing and then getting back to the cabin and cook a family meal. (Great way to save money by not having to eat out all the time) But if you do want to eat out check out Old Colorado City and Manitou Springs (especially P.J.'s Bistro in Manitou Springs). The owner of the property is very friendly and was extremely helpful, even to the point of patient when answering questions about forest fires from a flat lander used to tornadoes. While we've only been back home a few days our boys can't wait to get back to the mountains and want us to start planning for next year. If you get the chance I would highly recommend this property. It's a great place in a great location surrounded by great people.

Great home away from home!
Great home away from home!
Stayed here for several weeks before our move to TX. The owner was more than accommodating, very understanding of all our needs, and was not at all worried about having a pit bull stay on his property(all other places turned us down). Great cabin, very cozy, quiet area, secluded but very close to everything. Loved going on hikes with my pets, a great dog park very close by, and enjoyed all the wildlife. Would recommend this cabin hands down. The owner is easy to work with and I'm thankful for all his help.

CLEAN COZY COOL LANDLORD/ animal lover
CLEAN COZY COOL LANDLORD/ animal lover
Stay here if you want to deal with an amazing landlord and awesome accommodations. Marks's cabin is clean and comfortable, with all of the luxuries of home. I arrived in a snow storm, and am leaving as spring is springing! The heat works, the water is hot and there is a fireplace to add to the ambiance of being snowed on in the mountains.....with civilization 5 minutes away. This was a work week for me and Mark was even able to help me find someone to come let my dog out midday! All my anxieties minimized! The cabin is clean, has wifi, cable, w/d, heated bathroom floor, well stocked kitchen with great appliances! Everything is in modern, good working shape. Sometimes you cannot tell from the pictures or descriptions. I have rented many from vrbo, and what he describes is what you will find. Morning sunrises remind you that you are nestled in Bear Creek Canyon.... Stunning. I found a gym 10 minutes away, dog park and nice neighbors. It is a perfect location. Feels remote with the crackling fire at night, but <15 minutes to downtown CS. I look forward to staying here or at any of Mark's properties when returning to CS. Thank you so much Mark and Geraldine. Love, Zoe n me

Year Purchased: 2004
About the owner: Pardon the corny photo from X-Mas at our daughter's house... We have 3 Corgi dogs of our own, all rescued from the Humane Society, and our daughter has a 4th Corgi, also a rescue... We take our 3 pups with us whenever we can, and they love taking long hikes with us around the Bear Creek Canyon area. We have been married for close to 30 years. We lived in New York City for our first 35+ years, and have lived in Colorado for the past 17 years. We love it here! (You will too!)
Why the Owner Chose Colorado Springs:
We purchased this wonderful property as a country getaway right in the city. We had fallen in love with Bear Creek Canyon park and Section 16 hiking trails and when this unique property came up for sale, we couldn't resist! It's only 10 minutes from our home in Colorado Springs, yet feels like it is a whole different world.
The Unique Benefits at this Cabin:
This canyon is surrounded by open spaces and there are only 22 houses in the entire canyon so it is a very quiet area. We have 3 Corgi dogs (all rescue dogs, adopted at the Colorado Springs Humane Society), and we take them hiking up into the surrounding parks and mountains. We love the proximity to all that Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City and Manitou have to offer, yet feel as though we are living in a mountain chalet, miles from civilization!
