This Stonington cottage provided a real get away! My mother, three sisters, and I spent a week here this summer and we rarely left Stonington. The cottage was cozy with a great view of the harbor. We didn't want for anything! The bedrooms were fine (though the twin mattresses could use replacing). We used the kayaks and life jackets...what a blast! The Four Seasons was superb and we had a good lunch at Harbor Cafe. The Whale's Rib Tavern in Deer Isle was also devine. We enjoyed cruising the islands and an educational lobster boat tour. We walked everywhere. The Opera House featured a great comedian, and tickets were only $5.00. The people were so friendly. Highly recommend and we want to return someday...Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, romantic getaway.

My husband and I spent the first week of September 2012 at this beautiful home. It was everythiing I hoped it would be and more. The harborview was spectacular and could be seen from most rooms in this home. It actually took my breath away. We spent many hours on the wrap-around porch just watching the lobster boats and sailboats coming and going. In the evening we watched the sun set. The home was very well set up, with everything you would need to cook and a lot of extras, too. We slept in the king bed and it was so comfortable. The home was clean and all the furniture was lovely (many antiques). We went out to eat several times at the Friendly Fisherman, a restaurant located right in town (5 minute walk). We also liked poking in the local shops (lots of handcrafted gifts and paintings) and walking all the quaint streets in town. We made a side trip to Nervous Nellie's Jams and Jellies in Deer Isle, about 8 miles from the home. The owner has constructed a replica of an old-time western town. Very, very unique and lots of fun to go through. They also had a cute little cafe. Loved this place. We drove around the island, stopping at trails which we hiked and enjoyed the beautiful views of the harbor and ocean. You have a view of the harbor/ocean on practically the whole island. I consider Stonington a little bit of heaven on earth. The home also comes with several kayaks. We paddled around a bit, but being older, did not venture far from the dock. I would without hesitation recommend this home to friends. I (we) can't wait to go back. We are grateful to the owner, who was very responsive to all our questions. She was wonderful and great to do business with.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

One couple from Vermont and three couples from Virginia, (VA Tech students together many, many years ago), enjoyed our vacation in this really quaint town of Stonington. The house was comfortable and cozy while the view from the deck was incredible! Just a short walk into town for a few groceries, a meal at one of several good restaurants, or to do a little shopping. Even has a movie theatre in an old opera house. We watched the lobster boats as they came home and the many schooners that came sailing through. A busy and interesting harbor. Also the ferry to Isle de Haute from the dock at the end of the road. The best part was the great kayaks which allowed us to paddle all around the many islands. Just beautiful! Ate a lot of lobster, from lobster rolls to lobsters that we picked up at the pound and brought home. All in all, it was a wonderful vacation with all the flavor of the Maine coast!Recommended for: Age 55+, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

My family rented this property in Stonington in May 2012. This home is well furnished, comfortable and well supplied. We had a wonderful time and enjoyed every minute of our 8 day stay. The owners were supportive, flexible and helpful. The house was clean and decorated beautifully. Clearly, the owners really love this property and go out of their way to make this relaxing and worry-free vacation get-away for their guests/renters. The house has an extraordinary location with panoramic, beautiful views of Stonington Harbor from almost every room. Instead of reading or watching television, we ended up watching the harbor activities. We even went kayaking in May! Great fun. Stonington village with all the amenities there is an easy walk away. I heartily recommend this property to any family.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, people with disabilities, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

I have stayed at this cottage many times, and enjoyed our stay each time. It's a lovely home, right on the harbor yet walking distance to the cutest town, with outstanding views over Stonington Harbor. The home is lovely, w/ the added bonus of 5 kayaks. To rent these elsewhere would be far too costly - $200/week/kayak. These kayaks are located right on the dock, so it's quick & easy to launch. The home is situated right near a wide array of islands, so excellent kayaking adventures are in the immediate vicinity. I haven't seen other properties that come w/ so many kayaks, so for our family, this home allowed for all of us to have a kayak and share in the fun. We also really liked the wrap around deck - especially the eating area overlooking the harbor. We also enjoyed the picnic table down on the dock, although a seagull did try to steal my sandwich! The home is very clean, the beds comfy. There is both a dining room and a breakfast nook, which came in handy. We all fought over the day bed in the dining room nook for naps and a cozy reading spot. All the bedrooms are charming but my favorite one is upstairs, overlooking the harbor. Each time we return something new has been added or updated. It's a great place. The owners are very nice and seem to genuinely care about their guest's stay.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, pet owners, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

Owner info
Year Purchased: 1998
About the owner: While originally from Maine, we currently live in Florida. We bought this home nearly 10 years ago to be able to spend more time near our family. When not there ourselves, we love sharing the home. It's a great location, a warm environment, and the kayaks are just such a treat. The nearby islands are fantastic to explore. We've worked very hard to make the home enjoyable for our guests, and it is fully supplied with everything you should need. We also try to have laundry, dish and dishwasher detergent, tin foil, baggies,etc....all those sort of things you don't want to have to buy for a short stay. We also put in comfortable and quality bedding. It's a great house!!
Why the Owner Chose Stonington:
Having grown up in Maine, but now living in Florida, I was homesick! So we bought a fixer upper and the whole family pitched in and helped us fully renovate this former 'lobsterman's family home'. With very few homes actually waterfront on Stonington Harbor, this home was ideal. We feel very fortuate. It's a dream come true!
The Unique Benefits at this House:
In actuality there aren't many homes directly on Stonington Harbor. This home is right on the harbor, and only a few minutes walk to downtown. And the dock is fantastic....we have 6 kayaks to use...plus we are purchasing more! This is the best location for kayaking out to the nearby islands. We have many return guests...so I guess they like it as much as we do!
