We stayed July7 to14th, 2012 and from the first moment were charmed by the cottage and environs. The place was spotless and neat, simple and organized. We launched our kayaks within 3 hours of hi-tide and enjoyed the beauty and excitement of a protected Casco Bay. For low tide we went to the public boat launch near Brunswick (Mere Point Bay). Our college age daughters loved the huge upstairs bedroom and swam off Sandy Beach which is a few hundred yards away, down the stairs and to the right. Everyone loved the fire pit in the very large yard, including "friends" encountered while shopping in Freeport. We attended free LL Bean outdoor concert and ate Ben and Jerry's. Ride your bike to Harraseeket Lunch and Lobster (1.5 miles) or to Petrillos in downtown Freeport (2 miles). Would have loved another week.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.

This is the first time that a house we rented through VRBO didn't live up to its listing. An ocean view was listed and there was no view of anything. A sandy beach was listed, but it was basically a mud flat at mid to low tide and most of the sandy beach was under water at high tide. There was no outdoor faucet and hose to wash off the mud. Some of the windows didn't work so they were either stuck open or closed. The kitchen was adequately outfitted but desperately needs new pots and pans. A large frying pan would be a great addition. We paid a cleaning fee but the place was dirty. We kept finding items under the furniture left by previous renters. The living room furniture was so damp you couldn't sit on it and the material on the wing chair was worn right down to the stuffing. The listing said there was a DVD player but when we tired to use it we couldn't get it working. There should be an instruction manual for renters. All in all we couldn't wait to leave the property.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

With a few days to spare before flying to Washington DC we sought a small comfortable place to stay. We happened upon this lovely cottage down by the water in Freeport, Maine. The surroundings were just perfect as we shadded ourselves under the trees whilst being a little jealous of those enjoying the boating and canoeing in the local bays. The cottage itself provided everything we wished for, two lovely spacious bedrooms which could have accommodated extra beds; a shower/bathroom; and a cosy living room which housed an open fireplace (not that we had a need of this during our short stay). The kitchen was well equipped and the dining area could have sat more than we required. All in all a perfect short stay, in a great location, and we were lucky with the weather too!!Recommended for: Families with teenagers, age 55+, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, sightseeing, girls getaway, romantic getaway, families with young children.
