My wife and I wanted to escape the hustle and bustle of New York City, and the Toddy Pond house was the perfect place to rest and enjoy the quiet Maine countryside and shore. We spent few days enjoying the quiet, simply reading by the fire and sitting out by the lake enjoying the sunrises and sunsets. Eventually, we explored Blue Hill (bookstore, restaurants, co-op). Then it was on to Acadia National Park (sunset on Cadillac Mountain not to be missed), and taking the mail boat for a day on Isle Au Haut (the Seal Trap hike was one of the best we've ever experienced). We used Maine: An Explorer's Guide by Tree & English) with great success. Lots of good food, to say the least. Belfast is not to be missed - particularly the art museum and the farmer's market just behind it. Other side trips too many and interesting to describe here. The house itself is fantastic - clean, spacious, full of light, warm and quiet. Just close enough to things for convenience, and far enough away that we felt we were having the remote experience we wanted. All in all, we would gladly return here with friends for another visit, perhaps in July. Our October visit was filled with beautiful autumn leaves and crackling after-dinner fires. We recommend the Toddy Pond House most highly. Dan was delightful, helpful, and seems like an all round good fellow. We'll be back!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Great stay at Loon Cove. Had everything you needed to have a relaxing and enjoyable stay. Directions, suggested activities and suggested eating places by owner were exceptional. Easy driving distance to many day outings and beautiful sites. The property was clean and was comfortable to come back to each day and make breakfast every morning. Sun sets across the lake were beatiful. Dan (owner) was very helpful with any questions prior to stay. Couriers Mainely Lobster outside of Bucksport should be added to list of places to eat - they were very personable, and offered other suggestions of things to do, not to mention reasonably priced great lobster. Would highly recommend Loon Cove to anyone who would like to visit the coast of Maine.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My husband and I, along with my parents, recently stayed at Loon Cove and we enjoyed it so much that we're hoping to return next year. The owners could not have been more helpful with information both before and during the trip. The house itself it just beautiful and the setting is gorgeous and so quiet! We all enjoyed our first cup of coffee on the deck in the morning while watching the sun come up through the trees. We took several day trips....Bar Harbor, Acadia, Campobello, and antiquing south through Searsport, down to Camden...and the location was great. We drove in from Illinois and stayed in New Hampshire before heading to Maine. One of our first stops for lobster was at Young's Lobster Pound in Belfast, yummmm! After that, we were on a mission to consume as much lobster as possible. There was a gentleman who had a trailer, maybe 10 minutes from the house on Route 1 just before the split with 15, who sold lobster and did a booming business. We purchased several from him and cooked them up at the house, delicious! I could go on, and on, but suffice it to say we had a fantastic vacation and would not hesitate to recommend this property to anyone.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

We loved everything about Loon Cove. It was just close enough for an easy commute to Bar Harbor and Acadia. The house was well equipment with everything we needed. Our son wrangled us into more croquet matches than I could count. Whether enjoying the peaceful view from the dock, or reading a book on the back deck, It was very relaxing. Thanks for the info on local towns and attractions, we particularly enjoyed the views from atop Great Pond Mountain. The short steep hike to get there was worth it. While Maine is known for seafood, its hard to find a better meal than the wood fired pizza at BarnCastle in Blue Hill. We wondered what all we would do for a week on the Maine Coast, now we have a list of all the things we couldn't get to for next time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, tourists without a car, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This home is delightful and well situated to the lake. There is a small 'beach area' which has rocky access but very usable for young children. It doesn't work too well for toddlers unless they are with an adult - which of course they should be! The lake is beautiful - very good for fishing and canoing. Also, no shortage of loons... The house (as mentioned by others) has everything needed to make this a comfortable and pleasant holiday including a very adequate kitchen and a really gorgeous master bath upstairs. One last observation - it really is very convenient to many towns and hikes in the area. We especially enjoyed Blue Hills and Stonington.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

My wife and I decided to get away from the South for a week and vacation in Maine. Toddy Pond is the IDEAL vacation lake house. The setting is breath-taking... and just far enough off of the beaten path to be quiet and secluded. We felt like we were the only people on the planet while we were there. The ONLY sounds to be heard were the birds and the squirrels. It was the most relaxing vacation we have ever been on. The ammenities were perfect and there is plenty to do, even though we were not there at peak vacation time. We went to Acadia National Park which is, in a word, amazing! We took a 6 mile, 2 hour "Day Mountain Summit" carriage ride up the side of the mountain, which I would highly recommend! It is very reasonable at about $50.00 for the two of us. It only rained one day while we were there... but for us even that was great! With plenty of dry firewood in the basement, we spent the entire day lounging around in front of a warm toasty fire in the fireplace... we even cooked steaks on the grill. I can't say enough about this wonderful place and would recommend it to anyone! We plan to return... hopefully in 2013!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Loon Cove is a beautiful place. The cheerful, light-filled, comfortable home gracefully supported our family reunion of eight people including two children. The open floor plan allowed the eight of us to talk while cooking, playing board games, preparing for a swim, mapping out a hike. The spacious kitchen was a pleasure to cook and hang out in. Loon Cove is as pretty as in the photographs. It is also clean and well-maintained, and comes with helpful activity advice from a conscientious owner who seems excited to introduce people to the joys of the region. And Loon Cove is in a great setting for outdoor activities -- swimming, canoeing, kayaking, hiking -- all of which can be enjoyed right from Loon Cove. Loon Cove and Toddy Pond are also great places for seeing wildlife. We saw loons, turtles, deer, chipmunks, frogs and rabbits around the pond and the surrounding woods. In the area -- would recommend the fresh eggs and milk at Quill's End Farm, the fresh fruit and vegetable stand at the intersection of Front Ridge Rd and Back Ridge Rd, and the hikes on Great Pond Mountain and Blue Hill (both of which had been recommended by the owner).Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a wonderful place and we would definitely consider returning. The house isbeautiful and very spacious, with a very well equipped kitchen; comfortable, clean furniture; and good beds! It easily accomodated our family of 8 (2 children, the rest adults). The owner left lots of detailed information in writing and the man who delivered our kayaks offered us lots of good information about the area as well. The lake was wonderful - just the right size and very clean. The only drawbacks were the lack of a dock (there is only a platform which made it difficult to get in and out of the water especially to swim) and the access to the 2nd floor bathroom (the only access is from the Master Bedroom). We coped with both quite nicely and had a wonderful time.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: The water was down about a foot this year (2011) which did make the distance down from the dock to get in/out of a canoe quite a bit more than normal. This is unusual and the only year in the past 9 that the water has been low, presumably the result of a very dry summer -- which has its benefits!

We needed a place for a large family group for my son's graduation and Loon Cove seemed perfect. Suffice to say, it was! Follow the directions the owners provide because it's a little off the beaten path. We found that recording the GPS coordinates and providing them for later arrivals helped us. The house itself is spacious and comfortable in the way only a modern newer house can be/ It was a cold arrival and the wamup took literally 5 minutes. We cooked all of our own meals for a large group and the kitchen had it all. We were treated to a pair of perfect downeast sunrises that were a cinematic treat through the ample shore-facing windows. That cinema was garnished with an expected soundtrack; the loons sang for us seemingly on demand. In short, a great place for larger groups at a reasonable price. We'd go back in a heartbeat!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Glad you enjoyed it Scott! The privacy, open floorplan, kitchen, east-facing lake view, and of course the loons (!) are always a hit with guests...

We spent our memorial weekened at Loon Cove and the time was just perfect. The property is well maintained with direct access to a very large lake. During our stay, we ran out of gas for grill and we called the local contact number that new gas tank was brought in matter of minutes. The owner of the property are very nice and easy to work with. They helped us out with local activities and direction to the place. I highly recommend this place next time you are travelling to Maine...as I said you will have 5 star experience at a convinience of a homeRecommended for: People with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Wow, are we thankful to have found Loon Cove. Not only are the owners a delight to work with, but the home is perfect. A wonderful vacation getaway. We had a family reunion that wasn't spoiled due to the weather because the house was perfect for playing board games, sitting by the fire, conversation, baking cookies, etc. And when the sun did peek out, the kids (and adults) totally enjoyed being in the water. Plenty of room for my family from the Maine area to come and enjoy a great Memorial Day Cook-Out. Some stay a couple of nights and love the big house and how much it felt homey. Wonderful, lakefront home. We couldn't have been happier with the home, the location, and the lake. It was exactly as described and shown and, if possible, even better. Pictures do not do this home justice. We even got married on the dock the week we stayed here - that's how beautiful it is! Owner did a great job of giving directions to towns in surrounding area, tips on what to do, where to hike, time to get there, etc., which is greatly appreciated when you're unfamiliar with the area. It was just lovely, only regret is that we didn't rent two weeks!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 5/5

Where do I begin about the week we spent at this beautiful property? The home is incredible and we wanted for nothing. Dan has thought of everything. From the well supplied kitchen to his personal tips about the property and area, we had no choice but to relax. We spent the week taking in the lovely views, enjoying the incredible fireplace and relaxing. There was poetry written, photos taken, cookies baked, paintings and books completed and many smiles enjoyed at Toddy Pond. This will always remain a favorite vacation spot and wonderful memory for both of us! Thank you, Dan! We cannot wait to return.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

After an 8 hour drive from upstate NY and an 8 hour plus flight from the California Bay area, our family arrived at the destination planned for our 2007 family vacation. We drove down the dirt road looking for the lovely home we rented...the directions were perfect...without them we would have been lost! Our first site as we drove up to the house were the lush, fragrant flowering bushes accompanied by beautiful butterflies. We enjoyed the week immensely from steaks on the deck the first evening to the lobster dinner and homemade blueberry icecream prepared on the final night of our stay. Yes, the kitchen was well equipped! Bar Harbor and beautiful Acadia made for fun day trips, as did a kayak guided tour on the ocean. Blue Hill provided the perfect setting to poke around one morning until the sun came out. We enjoyed great cool Maine weather! The cabin was spacious enough for the seven of us to sleep comfortably and pleasantly furnished. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone seeking a relaxing, quiet and peacefully located vacation.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 3/3

As the very first guests of the 2007 Summer Season, we found that the transitional weather caused a few of our special Maine events to 'fall through', however Loon Cove lived up to all of my expectations. Both the owner and Housekeeping/ Maintenance staff were very attentive to our needs, and the secluded serenity while at the same time "wildlife" that abounded in the lush green woods, which engulf the house, serenaded us into relaxation every evening. Website pictures do not do this home justice, as it provides lovely views from every window. Robins, bluejays, deer, red squirrels, chipmunks, rabbits and even a harmless but curious garter snake introduced us to Toddy Pond. While others have on occasion seen a wild turkey in these parts, we saw them on the road up form Buckport to Bangor...keep your eyes peeled though! A beautiful, well designed home, that still provides the cozy comforts of home. One can tell that it has provided many happy memories for families, including the owners! Only potentially negative experience would be those mosquitoes and blackflies in the warmer months...but if you armor yourselves with some DEET, they will not spoil your spendor at the beautiful refuge provided in Loon Cove. Wish we weren't so far away in California! Take Good Care!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

From a 9-month-old baby to his parents and his 73-year-old grandfather, we all had a wonderful time--swimming, fishing, boating, hiking, sightseeing and, of course, eating lobster. The house is beautiful and well-equipped, the lakeside location lovely (close enough to Acadia Park for easy day trips, far enough away to avoid crowds). And there's plenty to do and see in the nearby towns. A glorious week for all.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

Our grandchildren just loved the jungle room and enjoyed reading the books you provided. The weather was spectacular and we couldn't have asked for a more perfect week. Loon Cove is a beautiful place to be in the fall. The colors are indescribable; it’s like God created new colors just for fall. Shelly and I enjoyed the sunrises and the walks around the “neighborhood” and the hiking the Acadia national park was very nice. This is a place to come to and just relax and do nothing, but there are many things to do around the area. Not one item stood out, but visiting the towns, lighthouse and different historical site was a pleasure. Thanks once again for a great place to get away from it all. The house was wonderful - We had out 18 month old grandson and his parents . He loved the open spaces, his toy trucks rolled really well on the floors. He was very excited to sleep with the animals on the second floor. We should have brought a baby gate to block off the stairs. The house was beautiful and with the leaves off the trees we had a perfect view of the lake. On our last day we woke up to the first snow of the season. A nice surprise, wish we would have gotten snowed in thru Christmas. Thanks for building such a lovely house, and hiding a bunny in the garden. Jan Fox, Rick, Jon, Angela and Garrett Hunter. Nov 2004Owner response: Please note that the "sleep with the animals" comment refers to one of the bedrooms that is theme-painted with a jungle scene -- there are no real animals at Loon Cove other than those outside!

Your house on Toddy Pond was all we expected and more. We usually stay on the ocean and decided to try an inland location on a lake and we're really happy we found your place. The sunrises are magnificent and the fog low on the lake on crisp mornings make for some great pictures. We actually forgot about all our "problems" down here in Florida for a while. Our entire family really enjoyed our week at Loon Cove. Your house is beautiful and very clean. We all enjoyed fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking on Toddy Pond. We enjoyed touring the coastal towns, including Brooklin where Tom attended wooden boat school a few years back. It would be nice if the dock was extended a little past the rocks so you could tie up a boat or canoe without banging on the rocks. We would recommend a visit to Loon Cove to any one wishing a stay in Maine. Tom was surprised to find that the first entry in the guest book at the house was a couple from Florida that Tom worked with for many years in Toms River, NJ. Its a small world.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/1

Our three generation family week at Loon Cove far exceeded expectations. The four grandsons (aged 2-9) had an awesome week. Highlights included the fanciful animal themed bedroom, swimming out to the rock, holding the live lobsters before the dinner preparation, catching bass from the dock , canoe rides, sprinkler chases on the side lawn, loon calls, the welcoming bird hatch from the nest over the front door and evening treats of roasted smores. Off premises hits included candlestick bowling in Ellsworth, feeding Atlantic salmon at Craig Hatchery, exploring tunnels at Fort Knox in Bucksport(an adult pleaser too) and the crashing waves at Sand Beach and Thunder Hole in fabulous Acadia. The adults enjoyed the open flow of the floor plan, the expansive deck, the peaceful lake views and the workable kitchen with the expansive harvest table that easily accomodated all 10 of us. We hope we can do it all over again.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 2/2

We celebrated my sister's 30th birthday and rang in 2004 with 11 people on Toddy Pond. The location was gorgeous, the house was perfect, the abundance of dry firewood and generous house supplies was amazing. We spent half the time discussing how lucky we were to have found this place & trying to decide when we could get back. We really couldn't have had a better week - this celebration sets the bar very high for any future birthday/New Year celebration plans!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

It was not hard to find, as the directions were very concise. We rarely left the house, except for a day trip to Ellsworth or Bucksport, b/c we enjoyed the house and the surroundings so much! It was fun to get away with a bunch of people to catch up on good times. We didn't want to leave and we would definately return!! This home base for our stay allowed us to visit sites up and down the Maine coast and still have a lovely place to lay our heads at night. Within easy driving distance of many beautiful Maine areas.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0

What did we like best? The Solitude. The movies and games. The fact that the house was extraodinarily prepared for guests. By the way, you've done a phenomenal job in the design, both house and site and the construction of your home. We'll be sure to check on availability for next year.Did you find this review helpful? What did we like best? All of it! The deck, the roses greeting us, the quiet lot, the view. You did an excellent job informing us about all we needed to know to live comfortably and take care of your nice place.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/0
