What a beautiful, open home that offers peacefulness for relaxation and space to play. The design of the home creates a feeling of being in your own private lodge. Simply taking the beautifully crafted staircase downstairs, is like walking into a different home. It would be great for a large family gathering as it offers plenty of beds along with privacy or a couple who wants to enjoy a lodge like feel. The owners were responsive, friendly and provided a seamless transaction. I would certainly recommend this home and already planning to schedule a family gathering this summer.

This house is awesome. Fireplace with stocked wood in back, firepit, good stereo with Headphone jack, stocked kitchen to make a feast, right against the forest so you feel on your own (and adventures can be had to the creek out back), foosball, games, plenty of spaces, and proximity to lots to do. Last time we went and relaxed at the hot springs, and this time we went rafting. Couldn't have asked for any more. One thing is cell reception is spotty, but that's sorta the point right? Just make sure people know how to get there and you're golden!

The trouble with finding a Gem like this property is that you dont want anyone else to know about it! We were of course interested after seeing the photos and reading the other reviews but what we couldn't anticipate was just how welcoming and beautiful the house and surrounding area was. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to stay in the Detroit area!

The Hodge Podge Lodge was fantastic!! There was room for everyone to spread out and the kids loved the loft. The house was close enough to the highway yet far enough away that all the noise was lost. The lull of the creek behind the house added to the peaceful surroundings. Plenty of room to park the snowmobile trailers and not far from Hoo Doo and riding trails. Will definatelty stay again.

Spent the weekend in this beautiful cabin and enjoyed a great snow storm. Two families enjoyed a birthday and spent the day Saturday at Hoodoo in the snow. This was an exceptional place to stay! Thanks for sharing your fabulous house.

We had a great stay...eleven people were accommodated very comfortably at this cozy and spacious cabin. The kitchen was well-stocked with utensils, bowls, pots and extra spices, too. Loved the ample room to spread out, ipod adapter for the surround sound stereo, and foosball table! Spent a day soaking at Breitenbush and celebrated my sweetie's 40th birthday at the cabin. Enjoyed the peace of the surrounding forest... and The Big Lebowski late night movie on the big screen downstairs! I've stayed at 4 cabins now in the Detroit area, and this one was by far my favorite. Thank you!

We had an excellent time at the cabin. Hoodoo ski area was nearby and we had some great skiing one of the days. The next day we headed to Breitenbush hot springs for a soak. The house was more than enough for our needs and comfortably fit us with room to spare. The fireplace was nice to come back to after skiing and the layout makes for a cozy but connected feel. We loved it!

We came with our four kids and my aunt and uncle for two nights. It was a really wonderfully relaxing stay. Comfortable beds, beautiful views. We especially loved how there can be a movie on downstairs and we couldn't hear any of it up stairs! Also, we loved being right up against the trees, with no other houses in the view from the amazing windows. The loft is much bigger than we realized, and a really fun place for the kids to play games and hang out while still being close to us. We were informed of a sudden heating issue before we arrived, though there was still ample wall heat and fireplaces, we appreciated the extra heaters around the house to make it comfortable. We plan on coming back in the summer with more family. :)

We rented the cabin for 12 of our family members from age 15 to 87. We couldn't have been happier. So much room and atmosphere! Everything was perfect. Nothing broken, nothing missing. This was truly the best home we have ever rented. We kayaked Detroit Lake, went scuba diving at Clear Lake and hiked all over Detroit. What a wonderful location. I found the house and made the arrangements and, when we left, everyone decide I could do it from now on. The problem is, I don't want to go anywhere else. This one is a real winner in my book. Thank you for opening this great home to my family.

the stay was a huge success with all the family members. The home was a good matche for the family. The loft area for the children was a well thought out arrangement for them. It was exactly as advertised, no surprises. We would rent it again.

My husband and I spent 5 days and 4 nights in the middle of November at this home, which ended up to be perfect for us. First of all, it is much bigger than it looks online as well as being much more beautiful on the inside. The house has a very open layout and yet also gives you a cozy feeling at the same time. We loved the fireplace (with ample wood available outside) and we had it going most of our waking hours. We utilized the iPod/mp3 stereo system in the great room which allowed us to have the perfect soundtrack to the winter wonderland that was happening outside the windows. We were blessed with lots of snow during our trip and it couldn't have been more beautiful. We have plans to return with the whole family sometime next year and I even hope to take some of my closest friends to have a girls retreat. The master bedroom was a real treat. I've had 3 back surgeries, as well as having Lupus, and Arthritis, but this bed (which has memory foam) is like sleeping on a cloud! It's the best sleep away from home that I've gotten...ever! That in combination with the several baths I enjoyed in the deep soaker tub were beyond wonderful and helped me to feel pampered and relaxed. The house had lots of unexpected items to make the stay special, from candles, lighters, wood, s'more makings, ample extra blankets (for beds and throws for couches), DVD's, fishing tackle, laundry soap, shampoo/conditioner, spices, sugar, and coffee, to an upright piano in the great room and toys in the loft for kids. They really thought of everything to help you feel at home. This would be great for family reunions, music gatherings, scrap-booking weekends, church retreats, work/brainstorming retreats, holiday gatherings, graduation celebrations, or just as a peaceful getaway. The only possible negative is that the local store is VERY small and expensive, so bring your supplies with you to the best of your ability. Once there you have access to a full size fridge/freezer and all modern appliances (including a crock pot and a double oven). We highly recommend this property to anyone looking for a modern cabin (home) that is decorated nicely, clean, peaceful, and architecturally beautiful. Your view from inside of the home is mostly all Forrest...truly spectacular.

We had a wonderful vacation and would love to return again. The Hodge Podge Lodge was beautiful and fit our families comfortably with roome to spare. The kitchen was beautiful and well stocked with eveything you could ever need. We spent our days doing everything from going to the coast, spending time at the lake or just having fun at the cabin with the kids which was great. Thank you for a wonderful stay and for letting people use your home. (and thanks for the car repair recomendation).

WOW this place was so awesome! There was enough room for my whole extended family! The decor was very fitting for the location and they place was kept well. It felt like home away from home rather than a tacky hotel room. My family is checking the calendar for when we can go next!!!

We've stayed at a lot of VRBO rentals, but we've yet to meet friendlier owners. Apparently, we're the first non-family/friends to stay at this lovely lodge -- and we're already planning to come back. I was blown away by the spaciousness of the house, the thoughtful details (an espresso maker!), the plush towels, and the quiet -- disturbed only by birdsong and the faint rushing of a nearby stream. It was a perfect setting for our writing retreat (just 2 of us), but it would be wonderful for small groups and families. Al this for $150 a night and barely an hour from Salem! There isn't much night life or fine cuisine in the area, but if you plan ahead you can make all your own meals on the grill and the thoughtfully-stocked kitchen. Big thank yous to the owners for the restful weekend we were craving - we'll be back!
