My wife and I really enjoyed our stay at Buena Vista Cottage. We spent the Thanksgiving Holiday there and included our relaxing stay in our thanks to our Lord. I don't think you can find a better place to "Get away from it all". While there are plenty of things to do in the nearby area we just wanted to relax. We took several walks on the property, caught a couple of fish in the pond, relaxed down by the river and enjoyed just watching the cows from the house. We think our little Terrier had a better time than we did because we had to run her down and catch her when we had to leave. Bridget and Marty are real nice folks and have a real nice home to share with folks. We brought a lot of stuff with us but they seem to have it covered if you forget something. We will definitely be back and hopefully soon. If you are looking for a wonderful place to relax....you've found it at Buena Vista Cottage.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: We really appreciate your kind review. After finding out your wife is an avid gardener we will have to have plant exchange if you decide to come back for a visit! Again, thank you for your positive review.

We had a fabulous time at the Buena Vista house. One of my sons wanted to move this house to our hometown and replace our house with this one. We felt that comfortable in the home. The acreage is beautful! We spent several relaxing hours in the river on the property, and the boys especially loved catching the fish in the fishing pond beside the cows. The bass our ten-year-old caught was the biggest fish he's ever caught. He was so proud. Thank you for such a relaxing, comfortable stay!Recommended for: Families with young children, romantic getaway.

Our stay at Buena Vista Cottage was just the rest & relaxation we were looking for with our son and friend before he goes off to college in just a few short weeks. We selected this vacation rental because is was located on private land with it's own private access to the clear, cool, spring fed Caddo River. We also rented this property because it was pet friendly; we have four-legged family members, British Labs, that love the water. You will need to drive through a few cow pastures and over a couple small creek beds to reach the river access...it is not within walking distance of the cottage; we were glad to have an older vehicle with us. The owners, Bridget & Marty, were wonderful to work with - they answered all our questions prior to our arrival, met us at the home to give us the tour and also took us to the river access so we'd know how to get there. We brought all our own personal items but they keep this home stocked so if you forget something basic (soap, paper towels, salt/pepper, etc...) no need to worry about going back into town. We would love to return and definitely recommend this property:)Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners.

We went up for the weekend with my dad and family that had already been there before they bragged and bragged so we went up this year with them. It was so beautiful. All the kids had so much fun and to wake up in the morning and drink a cup of coffee and see the sun come over the mountains was so beautiful. We took the kids floating down the river, it was a lil low in some spots but still fun. So looking forward to going again next year. The house is very pretty inside and out. So much land for the kids to just go play and have fun, not worry about everyday junk.Owner response: Thank-you Jacqlyn for the kind review. We'd love to have you make the cottage an annual family vacation. Maybe next year the river will be up and perfect for floating. We're glad you had a good time. Bridget And Marty Cantrell

We recently stayed at the ranch I it was everything we hoped for.. We've got 3 boys (5,3&6wks) and really just wanted to go out of the everyday hectic lifestyle. I lived in the Glenwood area until I was 8 and it really brought me back to those memorable times I truly cherished. The whole trip would have been a success if my 2 oldest boys caught just one fish and they caught a bunch! My oldest caught a 3lb smallmouth right out of the private pond which is about 100 yards from the house. I swear it was the happiest moment of his life and I was pretty proud. My 3 year old caught plenty of Bream as well. Just down from the pond is a private river bank on the Caddo river that has a low stretch of rapid water and a deeper swimming hole which was perfect. If you have a canoe or kayak you can actually put in on the property and float down to Glenwood. Easiest thing to do though is call Caddo River canoe or Arrowhead and they will drop a kayak or canoe just a couple of miles from the ranch and put in there. The float was wonderful but if you want to stay on the river a while get a canoe b/c I got up and down to Glenwood in 2 1/2 hours on kayak. Canoe should take about 4 or 5. Back to the house. The place was very clean and accomodating with full kitchen, 2 outdoor grills, plenty of seats and all the utensils you could ask for. Both beds were very comfortable and there are 2 TV's with a million channels. I grilled fat juicy cheeseburgers and finished my nights watching the tube in one of those swivel recliners next to the solarium. Great View of the land and wildlife!!! We were told by a couple of folks about a great little bbq place a couple miles down the road but never made it. We're definitely gonna hit it up next time. Great place Cantrell Family! We recommended the place to our friends this week but I think it was already booked. We're certainly looking to book it again real soon! ThanksRecommended for: Families with teenagers, families with young children, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thank you so much for the kind revue! We're glad you had such a good time and even caught a few fish! We hope you come back soon because the river is perfect for floating right now. Thanks again, Bridget

We were looking for a rental that was peaceful and quiet. We found it at Buena Vista Cottage. The house is well appointed and the surroundings could not have been more beautiful especially since the fall foliage was near peak. I highly recommend this place and expect to go back when we can.Recommended for: Age 55+, girls getaway, romantic getaway.

We could not have asked for a better place for relaxing. The home is beautiful and the views through the large expansion of the solarium window were gorgeous. Watching the cattle graze was even relaxing. But when it rained and the water came down the windows it was like being behind a waterfall. We enjoyed the day trips to see the countryside and to do a little antiquing. Bridget & Marty were wonderful hosts and provided every thing we needed. We certainly will do our best to return and maybe take a few friends with us. Terry Dianne & our pals Grapeland, TXOwner response: Thanks again, Terry and Dianne, for the kind review! We do hope you come back again. We have a new antique store in town,Gap Mercantile, that you might enjoy. Hope to see you soon. Bridget

We had not had a famiy vacation in several years and really needed a get away. This property was perfect! We have 2 children (a teenager and a toddler) and a dog. All of us were very comfortable. The kitchen (very nice) and family room were the perfect size and there is an amazing window that takes up an entire wall. One day it rained and I sat on the couch by the window while the kids played in the covered porch - PERFECT! We spent most of our time exploring the river. Thankfully we could walk in it and explored up and down the river all day, barbqued on the river rocks, and were happy campers when we went back to the cottage each night. As always, if forgot a few things but town is close by and we were able to find a good grocery store easily and be back to the cottage within a short time. The owners are terrific. They were close by so if we needed anything (which we didn't) we could contact them easily. We didn't see much of them. They came by a couple of times to make sure everything was ok but didn't stay around. Even though they are really nice people we were happy they didn't stay because we really needed some family time. We liked the cottage so much that we extended our stay! It was booked for the following week or we probably would have stayed longer. As it was, we stayed until they had to get ready for the next guests. My husband is an author/scholar and I am sure we will use the cottage for some writting get-aways as well as family vacations.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Hi Becky, We're so glad you enjoyed your stay at the cottage. We like to meet everyone of our guests but try to give them the privacy they need. I'm glad to hear that we got it right. Please come back soon. It was nice meeting you and your family. Bridget

The Buena Vista Cottage more than exceeded our expectations. We felt right at home the minute we walked in the door. The cottage is beautifully decorated and fully stock with everything you need to be comfortable away from home. The view from the solarium is specacular. We enjoyed our stay and getting to meet Bridget and Marty. Looking forward to another visit.Recommended for: Age 55+, pet owners.

This was the best relaxing family vacation. The place was beautiful we enjoyed swimming down at the private creek area and fishing in the pond catching the fish was great. Our teenager said this was really the best relaxin vacation our 5 yr old didnt want to leave "swim, swim and fish". Luckys canoe rental owners were great we had a great time canoing down the river. Restaurants were great too "family owned" we ate well and gained several lbs. Bridget and Marty and their family are down to earth good people. We enjoyed the company at the swimming hole alot. If you want a place to go and have time with your family to sit, talk and laugh without the rat race atomosphere this is the place to go. My husband and I love the town area its great to not commercialized. I didnt think my husband was ever going to stop fishing he wanted to carry his fishing pole everywhere we went he said it was the most relaxing fishing he's had in a long time. Our family highly recommends this place dont miss out. Marty and Bridget we will be back. Take care we will be seeing you guys again. Thanks and God Bless Stanley, Tami, Aeriel and RileighRecommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

Beautiful, relaxing family get together for the week. We went kayaing with my new toy and my husband rented from Arrowhead. We were able to put in at the swimming hole there on the property and go all the way down to Glenwood. Great for beginners! Enjoyed trip to dig crystals-even in the heat! Also floated in the float tubes to cool off. Great fun fishing in the river and in the pond-actually caught some fish for supper! Great town of Glenwood with flea markets and restaurants. Just a quick trip into Hot Springs. Enjoyed coffee outside in the mornings with the cows mooing and the birds singing. My 20 year old cat even got to enjoy the stay-lolling in front of the sunroom windows watching the critters. We have already recommended it to family/friends, and hope to return soon! Bridget and Marty were great hosts and we had a super time!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, sightseeing.

My friend and I just returned from a week at Buena Vista Cottage. We are already making plans to go back this fall! The location was perfect! Hot Springs, Crater of the Diamonds, Mount Ida crystal hunting and numerous parks are within easy driving distance. There are also numerous independantly owned cafes and restaurants within a few miles. Every dining experience we had was positive. The cottage was clean, well furnished and provided us with numerous amenities. The surrounding property was beautiful....the best day I had in Arkansas was spent roaming the property, fishing, poking around in the river and bird watching. The owners were wonderful people that left us feeling like we were guests in their home....We couldn't have had a better time and are looking forward to another visit to Caddo Gap!!!!Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Harpo, thank you very much for the kind review. I'm glad you enjoyed our farm and had a good time in our area. We think its a pretty special place and we're glad to hear that you plan a return trip. Hopefully we can show you all of our trails and float the river. We've had some good rains and the river is perfect for kayaking and canoeing. Looking forward to your next visit, Bridget Cantrell

My family stayed at the Pea Patch - we were ready for a quiet getaway with lots of cooking, water and relaxation. We found the perfect place! Our hosts were amazing. You'll absolutely have your privacy if you want it - but we like to get to know the folks in the areas we visit, and ended up visiting with Bridget and Marty. Their stories were great and we learned a lot about the history of the area. We really enjoyed our time with them. They even taught my daughter and I a thing or two about kayaking. It was my daughter's and my first time to kayak. I fell in love. It is my new favorite sport- thank you, Caddo River! The home is roomy, inviting, and well stocked for all you need to cook a great meal. I grew up on a ranch so this was just like being at home to me.... Made me miss the country life. The locals were friendly, the Cherokee (I think it's called) kayak rental place was great, the staff were so accommodating for us "city folk" I just can't say enough good things about Pea Patch Ranch... We definitely intend to visit again in the Spring when the river is up again and the weather is warm. Oh! And the private swimming hole was amazing. It was exactly that - private - and with the mountain behind it, just a wonderful, peaceful place to hang out. The kids did a little catch-and-release in the pond on the property - they caught lots of lovely fish. A great time was had by all. I use VRBO a lot - and this was probably my best experience yet! This is an awesome family getaway. PS - we got to bring our dog, Callie - and she really loved it and we loved having her with us on vacation for a change.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway.

This was our first stay at a cottage and we truly loved the experience. The hosts were so very friendly and knowledgeable about the events and places of interest in the immediate area. We had a great time and would definitely recommend the Pea Patch Ranch to anyone and everyone. It was spacious, clean, neat, comfortable, and peaceful. This area of Arkansas is beautiful and worth visiting. We will be going back often and recommend it over a hotel/motel.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, people with disabilities, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
Owner response: Thanks so much for the positive review of our cottage. We're very pleased that you enjoyed your stay and we hope you come back in the near future. We will continue to try to improve the property as our business grows and with your kind remarks we can make that a reality. Again, thank-you, Bridget and Marty

My family and I just got back from a stay at the Buena Vista Cottage and it was so much fun. My husband, my two teenage boys and two of their friends had a great time. The cottage was perfect. It has a very good open floor plan and they loved eating around the kitchen bar. The view of the pasture and mountains from the solarium window on the Pea Patch Ranch is beautiful. We were so close to the Caddo River we were able to float and enjoy the river on the property. I would highly recommend this property to everyone. It is so close to a lot of fun things to do. We canoed and kayaked the Caddo River, and even went into Hot Springs which is not too far away and had fun at Magic Springs Crystal Falls.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway, pet owners, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
