we had a great time, your place is wonderful. Loved the fireplace out back and the pool table. The kids loved running around the fields. Just wish it was warmer outside so we could have enjoyed some of the hiking around.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/1

I don't know if they allow honest reviews to stay on the website, but just in case, I am writing the review I wish I had read. First of all, the owner does not accept credit cards as stated, so if you were thinking you would be able to use or earn travel points on a card, that is not the case. Add a per pet fee and cleaning fee to the posted rate, and you are dropping significant money on this cabin- even at the "off season" rate. I would not recommend this cabin for the price, mostly because the sulfuric smell from the water is not in any way mild. We were gagging on what seemed like raw sewerage odor our entire stay- and we grew up on well water, so it's not like we're just spoiled city people. Taking a shower creates a long lasting unpleasantness throughout the house and giving your kids a bath actually seems to make them dirtier. Cooking with the water is a horrible idea. It put worse than a damper on what was supposed to be a great family get away and the owner was not interested in offering any kind of partial refund. If you're looking to enjoy the attractions in Berkeley Springs, the town looked like it was full of rental properties and you should skip the long and twisty mountain road to this one. If you're interested in being down the mountain beyond cell phone range, I would pick one with a well that's in better shape.Owner response: I am so sorry that these renters never once called us during their stay but waited until their return to emailed us telling us about the odor. (We have returned from our weekend at your river house and I wanted to say thanks for the use of your place. I hope your cleaning crew found everything to be in good order after we left. We had a nice time but really struggled with the water. I assume it must be worse than usual.) We went right away to investigate the smell. We were very concerned because renters have been using it all spring with no complaints. The well checked out fine within the normal range (but we treated it again) so we went looking for another cause. We found two very large squirrels had gotten into the flue of our wood burning stove and died, thus causing the horrific odor. Had we been called we could have discovered this and taken care of the odor problem. On the site it states about the cleaning fee and the additional pet fee if you would like to bring your dogs. We are very sorry that these renters did not enjoy their stay visiting Berkley springs, the area has great things to see and do. Berkley springs is known for its springs and bath house, the massages are also very good. Hiking is great, the Paw Paw tunnel is a great hike and to get your blood pumping morel hike up and over the tunnel! We ask all are renters to please call if there is something that they feel needs to be a dressed, we are very close and are more than happy to come assist. In Feb. a rented called to tell us that someone had removed a smoke detector, we were there within the hour with a new smoke detector in hand. We are very reachable and want your vacation to be enjoyable. Please let us know if we can answer any questions.

we had a great time even though it was the hottest week so far this year. Your house was perfect. Love the small town feel but so close to activities. The a/c works very well. The kids love swimming in the river and we even did some fishing. Eddies tires in town is a great place to pick up tubes for the river. I thought I would miss using the internet but it is great to unplug! The deer were great fun to watch come down the mountain every night. The paw-paw tunnel is a great hike, thanks for a great family week.Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.

We had a wonderful stay! Beautiful location with an outdoor common area that allows you to enjoy a warm fire and wonderful atmosphere. Plenty of room for all of us and a comfy, at home feel. We will definitely be back! Things to remember: No Cell Service - what so ever, water turns silver jewelry brown and lastly it is nearly impossible to keep the insects out. Other than those few things, we really enjoyed ourselves =)Recommended for: Families with teenagers, pet owners, families with young children.

We just returned from a weekend at this house. We enjoyed grilling out in the yard and watching the deer pass by the house pretty much all day long. The house is less cabin and more home and the kitchen has everything you could want. Playing ping pong and relaxing on the deck in the evening were our two favorite activities. The water access is a short 5 minute walk. I recomend wearing water shoes as some of the rocks on the bottom of the river are quite sharp. Everything was just as described and we had a great trip. My dog loved running around the field and sniffing out turtles deer and frogs.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, pet owners, families with young children.

About the owner: Great place to relax and forget about life for awhile. We fell in love with this house and had to buy it. Its been an incredible place to bring our 4 children and their friends for mini weekend trips and vacations. It is 100 yards from an awesome river called the Cacapon and absolutely filled with fish and other wildlife. From bird watchers to wildlife photographers to plain old hikers and canoeists you are absolutely guaranteed to find plenty to do. If you just desire to cuddle up next to the huge fire places and read a book, or fall in love all over again, you can so have that chance. We decided to start renting this to allow others to enjoy some of that spectacular relaxation time that heals the body and soul.
Why the Owner Chose Berkeley Springs:
We chose this location because it was with in 2 hours drive from home. It has river access, great fishing and canoeing.
The Unique Benefits at this Chateau / Country House:
We enjoy the quietness of being in the mountains and the activities that the river has to offer. Only minutes from the great little town of Berkeley Spring and Coolfont resorts where you can enjoy some very nice restaurants and shops.
