Location: Pahoa, Puna District, Big Island, Hawaii, USA (Nanawale, 20 miles SE of Hilo,near Hot Pools, Lava, ocean.)

Located in a private subdivision just minutes from the Puna Coast, this non-smoking, 2 bedroom home is in one of the most rural areas of east Hawaii, yet only 25 minutes to Hilo amenities and shopping. The Pahoa Getaway House is only minutes to the coast road and swimming, snorkeling, and a black sand beach.

Lava Trees State Park is minutes away, Kilauea Volcano an hour away, and Kona/Kailua, about two and a half hours, an easy day trip which can completely encompass the "Big Island" with scenic stops all along the way. The eruption is currently sending flows of lava to the ocean, about ten miles south of the house, making lava viewing more accessible than it has been for many years.

Swimming at the Nanawale Community Center is ten blocks away, the Pahoa Pool is just 10 minutes away, Ahalanui Hot Springs is 15 minutes away, (a nice end to the day, soaking in 90 degree plus volcanically heated water). In addition, the local surf spot, Pohoiki, as well as the tide pools at Kapoho, are each just five minutes from the Ahalanui Hot Ponds.

The adjacent Coast road leads further down the coast through varied stands of tropical rainforest and ironwood, along lava cliffs where occasional fishermen fish the shoreline, casting for an amazingly diverse catch. Farther along, black sand beach at Kehenna is seldom discovered by tourists, and usually sparsely attended.

The Pahoa Getaway house has been newly remodeled and painted, decorated in low key Hawaiian themes, and comfortably set up so that the beginning of your stay is as easy as can be. Situated right against the forest itself, the home is in a sparsely developed neighborhood so there is minimum intrusion from the outside world.

Easy to maintain, all cleaning supplies, etc. are stocked as is a washer and dryer for your convenience. The phone is free for local calls, phone cards, and incoming long distance calls. The TV has a VCR player and minimal reception. There is a carport, and lanai with a propane barbecue for those fresh ahi and marlin fish barbecues.

In order to keep prices as low as possible, I operate the home on the honor system: use what you need and replace what you use. I furnish a home that is neat and clean and lacks only your personal groceries to be a comfortable stay. Please leave it as clean as you found it.

Nearby Pahoa is a step back in time, but has Mexican, Thai, Local, Chinese, and Italian restaurants, as well as the oldest theater in Hawaii, the Farmer's Market, and "Da Store," and a natural foods store.

The floral life is stupendous right out the window, and, in fact, all over Puna, the largest orchid growing area in the world.

Above all, the Pahoa Getaway house is a comfortable base for you to relax and enjoy rural Hawaii at your own pace and schedule.
