I returned with some friends and rented both of Elsie's houses for the 2nd Thanksgiving in a row. We had an excellent time. The property is well maintained, spacious, and Leticia is there if you need her and busy with her other jobs if you don't. The beach is an easy walk, my elderly dog (15 and counting) enthusiastically walked to the beach and back every day while we were there. It is one of his last true pleasures in life. All utilities functioned perfectly this year, and we will happily recommend this property to others. Elsie is always responsive and attentive. Thanks for sharing your home.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.

Enjoyed our overall stay back in June 2012. The owner easy to communicate with but the place was very hard to locate at night and it was a bit scary since it is dark and the roads are not paved. Once we finally made our way to the property, we were greeted at the driveway with the keys which was nice since we arrived an hour late due to being lost. Very challenging to make a cell call in Mexico and theres no Wifi service once you get to the house. Daytime, scenery not so lovely as there is a lot of dirt around and even some discarded trash nearby. Also the locals said this area "rarely" sees any sunshine which was very disappointing considering it was summer and my husband and daughter and I had to endure a cold gloomy weekend. The pictured hammock wasnt there which was fine due to the chilled weather but if you look forward to relaxing in it, check to see if owner has replaced it first. The house was roomy and clean, plenty of towels and blankets. Problem with both showers though is the water drains were clogged up so we were stuck taking showers while our feet bathed in backed up water below and it smelled "sewagey". Not pleasant. There were videos to keep our daughter entertained but no cable. Price was great but word of advice, be ready to rough it a bit.Recommended for: Pet owners, adventure seekers.
Owner response: 1) I am so sorry that the weather did not cooperate with your vacation. The weather in La Mision is identical to Southern California weather: it is usually sunny and beautiful but occasionally you get some gloom or even rain (example: coincidentally, today (August 30,2012) it rained hard in sunny Pasadena/Los Angeles during the middle of a heatwave: it happens sometimes!). And global warming will probably only bring more crazy weather. You were just unlucky during your vacation weekend. 2) We do not offer WiFi but lots of neighbors leave their WiFi open and it is accessible from the upper patio. 3) I am very sorry about the hammock not being out. Leticia puts it away when each guest leaves to preserve it from salty air and sometimes she forgets to put it back out (it was in master bedroom closet). 4) Leticia (the caretaker) is always available to fix any maintenance issues that come up as it does with ANY home. If you had told her immediately about shower issue, she would have had her husband who is but a few houses away, fix it immediately. It is what she is there for. 5) Our ad/web page does not claim that we have cable service. 6) I have tried my best to show in the pictures and in the description that we are located in a nature setting/community and we are surrounded by an estuary, lots of native shrubs, hiking paths, etc (This is shown on pictures). This is a vacation home meant for enjoying nature and the description does not say in any way at all that we are surrounded by concrete. Describing it as"be ready to rough it a bit" is far from it. I handle the rental of 2 houses in this community and this house gets the most compliments from many of our guests. They love the house's architecture, views, the tranquility and peacefulness, proximity to restaurants, shopping, wineries, sand dunes, etc. 60% of our rentals are returning guests, who book as much as 4 to 5 months in advance (Thanksgiving week is already booked by a returning guest). I try very hard to take good care of all our guest and I am sorry that you were not pleased. I highly recommend that for your future vacations, you should read the description of house, location, amenities, etc, very carefully so that your vacation meets all your expectations. Sincerely, Elsie

Thanks for renting us your two lovely Baja homes. We wanted for nothing during our stay. I somehow managed to take home a kitchen towel which I would happily mail to your US address. We live in Los Angeles and rented the back house with the Langston-Grodachs.Recommended for: Pet owners, families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you so much for your thoughfullness. Don't worry about it at all. I am just happy to know that you had a great time. You are welcome back anytime. Elsie

The place was absolutely beautiful, clean and neat, it felt very warm like home...We wish we had warmer days, we sat outside enjoying the senery. Right in front of the house is a lake and to the right is the ocean...it was a bit cool, but well worth the trip...Elsie thank you for renting to us on such a short notice and thank you for recommending the great places to eat...this was a vacation (NO COOKING)...I would definitely stay again, although I would not bring my BMW, you need a vehicle that can handle a little more rough road...(LOL)Recommended for: Girls getaway, families with young children, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: It was a pleasure having you at our beloved home. You are welcomed back any time. And i am happy to report that the rough streets have been greatly improved since your last visit in Spring. :) Hope to have you back in summer when weather is perfect. Elsie

My husband, dogs and I just spent a wonderful, relaxing weekend in this gorgeous home. It's bigger than it looks here and the location is amazing, right on the river and a quick 5-minute walk to the beach. Owner and caretakers are very nice and made everything super easy. Already working on my next visit....Recommended for: Pet owners, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for your great review. It is a very spacious house with gorgeous Spanish architectural details. Unfortunately it is difficult to capture all of it with a simple camera and no professional photography skills. I am glad you had a good time. Elsie

The owner( Elsy) was very promt and helpful great followup. Mike and Sherry the caretakers were very pleasant giving directions, short cuts, points of interset, and great places to eat great food. The photos do no justice, the house is new and beautiful, spacious, very open and family friendly. I would definetly recommend this piece of paradise to anyone looking for a getaway. You will fell right at home in the spacious and very quiet house. I guarantee that you will be planning your next trip on your way home.Recommended for: Families with young children, sightseeing, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway.
Owner response: We are honored to have repeat guests. It lets us know that we've done a few things right. Elsie

Why the Owner Chose La Mision:
We have visited many comunities along the baja coast in the last two decades and La Mision was the one we loved the most. The fresh water river pooling into a huge estuary right next to the ocean is very rare. The fresh water keeps the entire area around it lush and green year round when the rest of baja is dried up and brown. The rugged mountains to the east are beautiful. The wild life is as atracted to La Mision for the same reason as the humans are. Plus we love the convenience of being less than an hour away from the USA border.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
At first glance it is a peaceful community but once you start meeting the neighboors you realize that there is always a fun gathering happening for one reason or onother. This gives you the option to have a quiet weekend or join the party for a few margaritas and dancing. La Mision is inhabited by americans who have been here for a long time. Many of the younger residents inherited their homes from their parents and they intend to keep them for their own kids. Our community has a very lived in feeling.
