This lovely property is a ground and first floor Duplex within a small, quiet development of 12 apartments, located across the road from the beach in Speightstown, on the prestigious West Coast of Barbados. There are two air-conditioned bedrooms - one with a double bed, the other with twin beds. The Caribbean-styled lounge is also air-conditioned, and is equipped with a TV, DVD, stereo, phone and wireless internet. The lounge opens onto a private balcony, overlooking the beach and its wonderful Caribbean sunsets.
The balcony has two luxury sunbeds, and a 4 seater table for romantic al fresco dining. The kitchen/diner is fully equipped to a very high standard, and includes a 4-seat dining table/ It opens onto a large integral foyer with direct access to the beach, for swimming and snorkeling. There is also rear access from the covered and gated secure car park.
Further details indoors: Top quality linen, and bath & hand towels are all provided, as well as several beach towels. There is a weekly maid service - more on request. A housekeeper is also on the site every day, should you need any extra assistance. The phone can be used to make free local calls.
St Peter Region - St Peter is the most northerly parish on the prestigious West Coast, with glorious beaches on the deep blue Caribbean, set in a perfect tropical climate. Green monkeys, humming birds and various seabirds are frequently seen, and you may also be lucky enough to spot turtles swimming in the warm waters, or even coming ashore to build their nests. Indeed, one of our guests recently witnessed, on the beach directly in front of the apartment, the hatching of over a hundred baby turtles!
Speightstown Area - Less than a 5 minute walk from the apartment you'll find the centre of historic Speightstown, which is the second largest town on Barbados, retaining many authentic and charming buildings and features from its colonial past. Largely untouched by tourist redevelopment, it's a bustling market town with street stalls, local shops, and a friendly atmosphere. The town, however, does have all the amenities you'd expect, including banks, a post office, pharmacies and two supermarkets, as well as an acclaimed fine dining restaurant.
Within a five minute walk there is also a bus station, with frequent services to the whole island, at a set fare of only BD$1.50 per journey (approx. 50p).
The famous "Fishermans Pub" is near at hand, where on Wednesday nights there's a typical Bajan party evening with steel band and dancing.
There are numerous beautiful and spectacular sandy beaches within easy walking distance, at Port St. Charles, Almond Beach and Schooner Bay - and remember, there are NO private beaches on the island!
A wide range of watersports is available at Almond Beach, and for Scuba diving visit the "Reefers and Wreckers" dive shop, where you can book lessons or hire equipment.
For keen golfers, it's only a 10 minute drive to the famous Royal Westmoreland and Sandy Lane Golf Clubs.
A wide range of restaurants and bars are also available in nearby Holetown, which is about a 10 minute drive away.

We booked this apartment online with more hope than knowledge and were rewarded with an excelent 2 weeks. The location for us was perfect, a 2 minute walk to shopping in speightstown combined with the ocean right out your front door (or balcony). Speightstown offers a great Bajan experience including fresh food, local shopping and friendly locals. We would recomend this unit for families, couples or singles.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing, families with young children.

The view is partially blocked by an old villa across the street facing the ocean. Besides blocking the view this causes the street noise to be overwhelming. The owner indicated to us the street was "not a busy one" It is in fact very very busy espeically in the morning and late afternoon with cars and vans rushing to and from "downtown" Speigtstown. The access to the beach across the street is over broken up sidewalk and the amount of beach is small and open to public view of traffic and people on foot. The owner indicated one could easily enter the water and it would be no problem for an older person with limited agility due to knee surgery. That was not the case as there was a considerable dropoff to negotiate and coral outcrops to stuble over as well. As a result we had to go to other beaches to swim. The unit itself has a kitchen downstairs which is poorly appointed. Appliances were old and not well maintained from a cleanliness standpoint. Also it was not airconditioned but one must rely upon a very inefficient wall unit in the small bedroom adjoining it or by opening windows which either face the street or the parking area behind which again can be noisy with cars going in and out. The upstairs lounge features rather uncomfortable seating next to the "master bedroom. The windows in the master bedroom face the garage and a walkway to the other upstairs units which is illuminated at night so the light filters thru the curtaining making it impossible to have a darkened room for sleeping. We utilized towels to partially cover the curtaining to get the room as dark as we could. . The "master"bathroom is small and has old fixtures but compares well with the one downstairs which is just a closet with a commode and a small sink. We rented this unit for three weeks relying upon the statements of the owner and his wife. Maybe if you are hard of hearing and fairly athletic you will enjoy your stay in this unit but we would caution you to be careful crossing the road!Owner response: There is an historic listed Barbadian villa across the street on the beachfront but there is still a fantastic view of the Caribbean Sea as shown in the photograph. The street does carry some traffic from Speightstown but it is a secondary route as all through traffic, buses etc. are on the bypass. We are very fortunate to have a lovely beach and sea opposite. There are no private beaches anywhere in Barbados, not even Sandy Lane. Unfortunately the pavement was cracked by Tropical Storm Thomas and the work is scheduled for repair by the Public Works Department. Barbados is of course a natural coral island and outcrops in the sea are normal throughout the island. If concerned, some people wear easily available aqua shoes for swimming. All our neighbours, ourselves and previous guests happily swim there daily. Its perfect for snorkelling and seeing turtles in the sea is commonplace. The kitchen was fitted by the developer in 2007 when the apts were built and has seen little usage. There is a very clear photo of the kitchen units on the website. We have a lovely housekeeper who is around daily and ensures the units are clean. The kitchen faces the sea - how nice to just open the windows and doors and just get the natural sea breezes. As seen in the bedroom photo there is a full length blind that can easily be pulled down to shut out any light at all in the bedroom. We can't understand why these guests just didn't lower the blind. The apt is advertised as one bathroom and one toilet. Both are clean and functional. We have many complimentary letters and rebookings from past guests. The guests who sent in this review were quite elderly with limited mobility. Being from Florida we imagine they expected Barbados to be similar and were not very keen on the natural joys this lovely island provides. They seemed the most keen on the workings of the DVD player when outside the views and atmosphere are fantastic.

My husband and I spent 8 nights at this clean and comfortable apartment. I am giving it five stars because the apartment, although not perfect, was well worth the money we paid to rent it. When making the reservation, Esther (the owner) was helpful and straightforward in her descriptions. Everything in the apartment is well kept and exactly as described. The beach across the street is rather nice although not the best on the island. We felt at home right away and the area seemed quite safe too. The entire apartment is furnished attractively but with comfort in mind. The queen bed, which is upstairs, is comfortable and the bedroom has plenty of storage space. The upstairs bath has a tub/shower. As you can see from the photos, there is a building directly across the street from the apartment but the ocean can be easily viewed on either side of it. The balcony is really nice in the evenings but my favorite was in the mornings, just at daybreak. It's so peaceful....just the sound of the sea, the birds and the occasional jogger or walker out before the day gets too heated. This two-story apartment is in a great location...a stroll to a great little bakery, streetside vendors selling fruits and vegetables, two grocery stores, a deli (of sorts), several bars, churches and numerous other small shops. Speightstown is a charming village and everyone was friendly and helpful. The bus was so easy and a really fun experience. We also rented a car for a couple of days and saw as much as we could of the interior, north and east coasts. Highly recommended if you are not too nervous about driving on the left on narrow roads with almost no signs. Bring plenty of sunscreen, money and a sense of adventure to B'dos. Everywhere we traveled the locals were friendly. Although I would not recommend this apartment for anyone with small children or that has limited mobility (due to the stairs) I would advise the rest of you to GO and enjoy.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, adventure seekers, age 55+, romantic getaway, sightseeing.
