We had a wonderful time at the cottage and would highly recommended it to anyone looking for a blissful beach retreat on beautiful Anini Beach. I've visited the North shore area several times, but this was the best place I've stayed.

We visited all the islands during our honeymoon and had a great time everywhere but we're so glad that we saved the best for last. Staying at Punana Aloha Cottage is like having your own little piece of paradise - warm days, cool breezes at night, a beautiful and secluded beach that was almost all ours, a lush tropical garden.... We had a wonderful stay - thank you so much Bob and Dotty.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Punana Aloha. It's a wonderful place to check in with a bag of groceries and not bother leaving for days on end. We BBQ'd most every day and certainly availed ourselves of the well-stocked kitchen. Sharon brought her sewing machine and set it up on the dining room table with a nice view of the ocean (Kapaia Stitchery in Lihue is one of her all-time-favorite quilt stores, and was one of a few excuses to "go to town"). A great swimming and snorkeling beach, and just a very relaxing and well appointed vacation home, perfect for a couple. We'll definitely be back!

Bob and Dotty, Kauai is a beautiful island, and Punana Aloha is the perfect place to stay while there. We loved the secluded, tropical feel of the property and easy access to the beach. The cottage was clean and comfortable. We were so relaxed! The beach area offers a little bit of everything - calm waters, no crowds, beautiful views, snorkeling, stream, trail, etc. We even saw an amazing rainbow while there. Thanks for offering this wonderful place. Tim & Tammy

Thank you Bob and Dotty for a wonderful stay at your cottage. We had a fantastic time and found our home away from home that gave us the time to relax and kick back a bit on the island during our honeymoon stay. We enjoyed hanging around and made use of the grill for dinner one night and relaxed with breakfast on the lanai every morning. Your cottage is cozy and offers a fantastic view of the ocean and is very peaceful. We did a lot of exploring along the Anini shoreline and loved walking around the area. Your cottage was the perfect pick and recommend it to anyone looking for a beautiful place on their honeymoon. It is so beautiful and hope to return back here in a few years. Thank you again! Staying at the Punana Aloha was the very best vacation of our lives. We found it easy to be "home" everyday and enjoy the north shore offerings. The cottage is inviting, comfortable, and very well stocked. Bob and Dottie are warm and caring people that make you feel a part of their family. We will stay here again without any second thougts. Thank you for such an outstanding vacation. We even loved the chickens and miss their crowing:)

What a great vacation retreat. We loved the Island, the people, and the treat of staing at Puanan Aloha. It was so wonderful to have the simple homey extras....I felt like I was at home. The location gave us easy driving time to any area on the island. We'd to it again. Thanks for all the thoughtful care you extended with your Aloha Love! Theresa & Anthony April 2009

I almost don't want to do this review and let others know of this hidden gem on the north side of Kauai. Looking for a beautiful, quiet beachfront property where the loudest noises are the many types of birds that live here? This is a beautiful quiet beach, with a large reef resulting in a calm waterfront, which you can see constantly from the large front window of the cottage. This is a place to go and not feel the urge that you must do something-just being here is enough!

The Punana Aloha Cottage is the perfect house for one couple to stay at while in Kauai. It is beautifully clean with many extra amenities. It is in a great area with many other areas a short distance from the house. Our weather was very bad (Feb. 25 - March 8) so that put a damper on many of the activities that we had planned.

Thank you Bob & Dotty for sharing your wonderful beach house. We loved the location and enjoyed our 7 nights on the North Shore of Kauai. The house was very well equipped - we even cooked our own Christmas Dinner on the grill using fresh produce bought from the local market. Access to wireless internet connection was also very handy in checking the morning surf report. We will definitely recommend your lovely house to friends visiting Kauai. All the best for 2009!

We had an amazing honeymoon at Punana Aloha in June 2008. The house was truly special--cozy, sort of tucked in against a jungle bluff, yet open to the sea breeze with a beautiful view of the water. It was clean, bright and had excellent amenities for our 10-day trip: charcoal grill, chilled-out lanai, beach chairs and umbrellas. We spent quality time on the beach right in front of the house but also enjoyed exploring the north side of the island, from short walks along Anini Road to all-day excursions to excellent beaches and trails easily accessible by car. At night, we cooked in about half the time and went out the rest--great restaurants are about 15-20 min. away in Hanalei, Princeville and Kilauea. For those new to the island (as we were), we thought we couldn't have been in a better location.

We had an amazing 6-night stay at the Punana Aloha cottage and we wish we could be back there right now. The cottage is in a perfect location. Every day, tourists staying elsewhere on the island would drive past the cottage and stare at us jealously as we gazed out at the ocean from our lanai. Bob and Dotty have appointed the cottage beautifully and stocked it with every amenity and necessity you can think of. We hope to be back many many times in the future.

12/15 to 12/22/07 We offer an unqualified recommendation for this house or any other the Nakeas offer for rent. This perfect cottage was a big factor in our delightful Kauai vacation. The house was spotless and beautifully equipped with everything we reached for to cook with or make ourselves comfortable, including a pantry nicely stocked with dry goods. Tangerine and grapefruit trees on the property were loaded with ripe fruit. We used the grill and skewers for shrimp kebabs among other meals. The location is perfect - privately situated at the end of the road and tucked into the rear of a sweeping yard that ends at the beach. Hale Kai shares the property with lots of room to spare. Dotty and Bob were perfect hosts - graceful and helpful, there when we needed them but completely respectful of our privacy. Dotty was tying orchids into the trees so you may find them in bloom in the months to come. We're already plotting our return visit. Mahalo Nakeas!

This is a great place to spend a honeymoon...we did! It's in a secluded area away from the tourist areas. There's a nice, quiet beach in front of the house. The house itself is well kept. It has new appliances, including a washer/dryer, a BBQ, a dishwasher, etc. The owners were very sensitive to addressing any needs we had, and they're really nice people in general. We would definitely go back to this cottage, or any other rental property that the Nakeas manage. Hopefully we will get the opportunity to do so!

My wife and I very much enjoyed our week-long stay at Punana Aloha. The home affords a lot of privacy yet the beach is just a walk across the property away. Much of the immediately surrounding property is always very private. The property is landscaped nicely with a huge grass area and beautiful tropical vegetation—a great place to lay out and catch some rays. Also the sunsets over Anini Beach are spectacular. Inside the home is well appointed and the owners have been careful to keep it in great shape and have made sure that virtually everything needed or desired is present. There’s a full kitchen, pantry and large refrigerator. Outside is a BBQ great for cooking the local fresh fish. I appreciated the great wireless internet access and it allowed us to check out activities and book them as well as keep up on the world. The home is located only a few miles away from charming Hanalei and Princeville and near two great snorkeling spots (Tunnels and Ke’e Beach). Hanalei and Priceville have several nice restaurants. A Bubba burger is also hard to beat.Although my wife and I have been married for over 6 years, we though of this last trip as a second honeymoon. This home is well suited for such a stay. When bringing the kids, we'll stay at the Nakea's other larger home, Hale Kai, also located on the large property. We stayed there in 2003 and noticed this property. Hale Kai is also very nice.

Rebecca and I stayed at the Punana Aloha cottage while we got married across the street on beautiful Anini beach. The cottage was perfect in every way - clean, quiet, well-appointed and perfectly suited for two people looking to get away from it all. The location only made it more of a paradise. The owners - the Nakeas - are wonderful people who made every effort to ensure that our stay was perfect. It would be hard to think of a more perfect place to base yourself on the island of Kaua'i.

My husband and I made our first trip to Hawaii and never had such a wonderful, relaxing time. It was everything we hoped it to be and more. The house was just perfect and we so appreciated all those things that were just "there"; just like home. Bob and Dotty have a lovely, lovely place and we thank them for sharing it with us. We spent many an hour along the shoreline and in the water and many an hour on the porch just watching/listening to the ocean. It's hard to discribe the feelings just remembering our time there. Always makes us smile. Couldn't recommend the accommodations highly enough! Perfect.

From morning walks on the nearly deserted beach, to snorkeling right in front of the house to luxurious soaks in the hot tub, this was the most relaxed and unwound either of us has been in a long time. The house and surroundings were perfect. The house was well equipped. The owners ( Bob & Dotty) were attentive when needed and invisible when not. We spent a blissfull week in this first-rate cottage. Punana Aloha was clean and well-equipped. The bed was comfy and the shower was phenomenal. We made guacamole from the avacadoes and limes that grew onsite. I took almost 200 pictures of our view. Every time the sky or ocean changed colors, I snapped another shot. We felt secluded, secure, pampered, and quite blessed to spend a week in paradise.

Punana Aloha is a perfect Hawaiian retreat. The location on a large oceanfront lot at the end of the Anini Beach road makes it very private and serene. We loved morning walks along the road with the shore lapping beside us. The beach in front of the lovely, well-stocked home offered soft sand bordered by calm, shallow water that was perfect for lazy floating and swimming. The location of the cottage near Princeville and Hanalei allowed us to quickly return to sites and many fine restaurants, shops, etc. What a perfect vacation. It was so much more than we hoped for!

My sincerest thanks for sharing this wonderful cottage, and for being so warm and welcoming. I found absolute peace here, and a wonderful refueling of my soul. It was difficult to leave Anini Beach and the cottage for even a few hours....I didn't venture outside of the North Shore the entire trip. Some of my favorite things this trip...watching the reef go through its "moods" with changing patterns and colors as each day progressed...finding the most gorgeous fish I've ever seen out by the sand channel...big mauve and white and deep purple fins...easy strolls in the evening checking out the polo horses practicing with all that synergy of movement against the deep green hillside... So, thanks again, guys, for helping make me feel proud to call Punana Aloha and Anini Beach "home" for a time that was way too short but infinitely precious. Kauai holds a special place in my eart.

I am sitting out on the lanai and my husband is preparing our ono and shrimp for dinner. All I can say is I have tears in my eyes becasue we only have one day left in this paradise. Being a flight attendant, I spend at least 15 nights a month in a hotel, and I cherish my home. You have made Punana Aloha a perfect little "home away from home." We have never been so sad to leave a place as we are now. Kauai is truly a wonder!! And, Dotty, with your little "touches" around this house, you and Bob have PERFECTED what an owner of a rental home should do. We had everything we needed and more.
