Oh! What a View
What a fantastic view of the Washington Channel from this three level townhouse. We are walking distance to Air & Space Museum, the Smithsonian's, National Stadium, restaurants and there is no need for a car. If you need to take the metro (train & bus) it is three (3) blocks from the house next to the Safeway grocery store.
The Southwest waterfront area is a hidden secret to even Washingtonians. It is suburbia in the city at it's best!

Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: I am so pleased you had a great visit and thank you for clarify that even though the airport is not far that it does not disturbs one visit and one can even sleep with the windows open and not be disturbed. The neighborhood also enjoys the local fish market. Please come back and brings some friends or family. The house is now 2 bedrooms instead of one.

Our stay here was excellent. Nice home in a nice quiet neighborhood, yet close to Metro, Safeway, dining etc. Everything was as advertised and would “will” stay again. The owner was very helpful and easy to work with. Met all our needs well, we just wanted a place to hangout, visit family and friends, and figure out where to eat tonight! The deck, green space and view of the Washington channel were perfect. I'll easily give it five stars.Owner response: I especially enjoy the deck in the mornings and the evenings. When it's raining I use the awning and I still can enjoy the deck. I look forward to your return. Thank you!

Our first trip to Washington DC was a great success; thanks to Oh! On the Water and Marcy. We loved the quiet and safe location of this townhouse. It was a very tranquil setting in a major city. We agree with previous reviews that there is a lot of air traffic noise but it never distrubed our sleep and in between; the neighbourhood was extremely quiet considering it's location. We loved being so close to the water and seeing the boats go by as we sipped wine on the terrific deck. We were able to walk to many attractions including the Baseball stadium which my husband enjoyed and we could be at the memorials or musuems in about 10 minutes. Shopping and restaurants/bars were conviently located. Marcy was extremely helpful from first contact and throughout our trip. Upon my inquiry, she suggested a boat cruise as an excellent way to watch the 4th of July fireworks and see Washington at night. It was a terrific suggestion and we were able to walk to the pier in under 5 minutes. We would recommend this townhouse if your visiting Washington.Recommended for: Adventure seekers, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway.
Owner response: Thank you for enjoying Oh! On The Water for all it has to offer. I just love it and love the Southwest Waterfront neighborhood!

This three story townhouse is located just a few blocks from the SW Waterfront stop on the green line of the subway. It's super convenient (just one to two subway stops) to the Smithsonians, the National Mall, and the Monuments. If you're comfortable in an urban setting and mass transit, you'll have no trouble with the subway system. Or, you can walk or bike it if it's not 103 degrees out. :) Next to the Metro station is a nice Safeway supermarket, which we made good use of. It was so nice to cook some meals in after a week of eating out. It was also nice to have separate sleeping areas for the kids and the use of a washer and dryer after spending so many nights in a hotel room! On-site parking was very convenient for us as we drove in. The SW Waterfront area is up and coming, and I believe it will only get better as time goes by, as more people discover it. It's obvious that many people, including developers, the locals, and the local police who have a constant but unimposing presence here, are working very hard to turn this area into a safe and desirable area -- between the beautiful waterfront, approachable working class people, and its central location, what is there not to love? (In contrast, we saw a $3M condo for sale in Georgetown, that my husband commented didn't have "our" view.) The townhouse itself was nicely rehabbed. It was clean and homey. The deck was great for evening wind downs and listening to a feisty little mockingbird that had an impressive repertoire of calls. All in all, our unit was exactly as advertised. The only downsides: 1) the sleeper sofa wasn't all that comfortable. 2) Air traffic overhead could be loud; 3) Very low water pressure in the kitchen sink; 4) The "Woman for Obama" sign in the front, which made me LOL as I watched my husband bristle each time he passed. :) FYI, Marcie was a great, attentive hostess and was great to deal with. I have no doubt that she'd bend over backward to solve any problem as quickly as possible.Recommended for: Tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, romantic getaway, families with young children.
Owner response: Thank you for taking the time to write a review. Yes, condo's that go for 3 mil in Georgetown do not have the view that Oh! On The Water has. There are helicopters flying down the Washington Channel and it is often our president and other government and military officials. I will look into the sofa sleeper bed, I have been renting the house for over three years and this is the first concern. It is the best mattress on the market as for sofa sleepers but of course it is no regular bed. The sign at the front of the house is that of my neighbor's which is on their property. Sorry, not much I can do about that.

We had a wonderful stay at this property. It was clean and well maintained, and the description as advertised was accurate. Prior to our arrival and throughout our stay the owner was very helpful, confirming our reservations, provided tips on DC sights, and even pointed out a local event with orchestral music that was taking place in the park next door on the last night of our stay. The DC metro stop is just three and a half block away, and at this stop is a good grocery store to stock up on supplies. The neighborhood felt quite safe. We travel with our two children, ages 8 and 10, and never felt unsafe during our stay here. The property is on the waterway, which has a bike/walking path that is used primarily by folks out walking, often with their pets. We met several of the neighbors out walking. The deck overlooking the yard and water were a great place to wind down each evening. It faces west, perfect for catching the sunsets. The location is especially convenient to the DC Mall, where many of the sightseeing attractions are, such as the Smithsonian, US Bureau of engraving, Capitol, etc. It is actually within walking distance, though a long walk. We had a lovely stay, and will stay again when we return to DC.Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, families with teenagers, families with young children, girls getaway.

We booked Marcy's place at the last minute and it was perfect! Clean, bright, spacious and comfortable, with a great deck and views. Our two kids (5 and 7) loved it too. I only wish we were there more than 3 nights and had been able to go to a ballgame (stadium is 4 blocks away). We walked to the National Mall and all around and back on one day and took the metro in the next. It was great to have the Safeway only 3 blocks away to pick up lunch or dinner. We highly recommend Marcy's place and would definitely stay there again!Recommended for: Sightseeing, tourists without a car, age 55+, romantic getaway, families with young children.

We enjoyed our stay here this Spring. We were late for the Cherry Blossoms due to warm weather but enjoyed the evening views of this place. The Metro is 3 blocks away. The kitchen is nice, the bath is wonderful.Recommended for: Families with teenagers.
Owner response: The Cherry Blossom Festival last for about 5 weeks. There are many events going on during the festival and unfortunately we never know until about the first week of March the date they will be in bloom. When they are in bloom they only last around from 5 to 7 days depending on the rain and winds. The Southwest Waterfront neighborhood has one of the big events for the Cherry Blossom Festival with fireworks that can be seen from our deck.

Sorry for the delay in getting this email out. We had a great stay at your place and look forward to coming back next year to stay again. I did leave a Safeway card for future visitors. Can I make one suggestion to benefit your “not so smart” visitors like myself. Put a label on the switch that turns off the heating system. While it was in your letter, I missed that and my smart wife told me!!! Everything was as described or better.Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 1/2

We arrived travel weary from Eastern Ontario and were so relieved to see this beautiful apartment and the spectacular view. Our two young boys slept on the pullout couch and we had lovely bedroom on the top floor. Easy walk to the metro station, Safeway (ask for a Safeway card for the major discounts at the service desk)and a nice longer stroll by the water to the fishmarket (which was a huge treat for my kids). Marcy was very responsive to our needs (light bulb burnt out, etc...). My husband was in DC for 8 days for a conference while the boys and I toured the city; we both found this location perfect for these two different needs. I mainly used the metro (got the weekly pass), but took my car one day to escape the hussle of the city and went up to Great Falls Park for hiking on a warm sunny day- super amazing!Recommended for: Sightseeing, adventure seekers, tourists without a car, families with young children.
Owner response: I am so pleased you enjoyed your stay. I am currently staying at the house and doing various upgrades for the new year. Early this morning there was a most spectacular view of the water and sky from the master bedroom suite. I am happy you were able to enjoy your spectacular view and enjoy the sights of the city.

About the owner: I live in the South West Waterfront area and operated an emergency restoration company. Prior to my restoration business I renovated distress homes in Washington, DC and in Baltimore, Maryland.
Why the Owner Chose Southwest Waterfront:
I chose my vacation rental in the South West Waterfront area because it is close to the airport, metro and Amtrak. The area is suburbia at it best right in Washington, DC. There is no need for a car to visit the nearby attractions and restaurants.
The Unique Benefits at this Townhome:
Besides walking the waterfront, I enjoy visiting the monuments at night around the tidal basin. Oh what a sight to see!
