Thanksgiving at the Lodge
Thanksgiving at the Lodge
My family and I drove to NC from Pittsburgh, PA. where we met my brothers and their families who traveled from Tampa, FL and Kansas City, KN. It was a good "meet in the middle" location. We had seen the pictures of the lodge online, but let me say the pictures do not do the place justice! It is absolutely beautiful! Lynda Jacobs is such a nice person! She gave each of us detailed directions into Bear Paw and in the months leading up to our stay she answered many emails from me with questions about the kitchen (since I was cooking Thanksgiving dinner there). The kitchen is fully equipped, even had a large roaster for my turkey. There is a very large square table which easily fit our group of 10. If you have a trip planned there, you don't need to bring a thing! There is a Super Walmart and an Ingles grocery store about 30 minutes away in Murphy, and there is a small local store called "The Dam Store" right outside Bear Paw where you can pick up milk, bread, and other necessities. It was a very long drive for us from Pittsburgh, but well worth it, and I hope to return back someday. Mardi Liebert and Families

As Good or Better than it Sounds
As Good or Better than it Sounds
My wife and I stayed at this wonderful log home near the peak of the Autumn leaf season not long ago. This is without a doubt one of the finest vacation homes we've seen in the Appalachians. The view shown on the cover page IS the view from the back upper deck. This home is practically new, obviously cared for with great attention to detail, and while quite large and roomy, has a very homey Northwoods feel to it. The appliances, fixtures, and furnishings are all five star quality. We especially enjoyed the fireplaces; the one in the great room burns real wood, while the bedroom fireplace before the king sized bed is gas logs on a remote control. This is in a very quiet community for those looking for peace. We enjoyed long walks through the beautiful woods, and canoeing on the lake, making meals in the well equipped kitchen, and exploring the Snowbird mountains. There's no big grocery stores nearby, but there is a well stocked convenience store within a few minutes of the entrance into Bear Paw Communtiy. Although there were only two of us this trip, this would be an awesome location for a family reunion or for a getaway for couples on a church retreat. All the bedrooms in addition to the Master bedroom were well appointed and carried through the theme of Northwoods lodge. Plenty of privacy for everyone, yet plenty of places for "the whole gang" to gather. The game room downstairs, the great room upstairs, the sitting area on the third level, and the two decks, not to mention the gazebo down by th lake, would provide space for several groups to get together at the same time. The owners are friendly folks, and made sure we had everything needed prior to our arrival. Obviously, we highly recommend this property to anyone who enjoys peace and quiet, comforts of home, and great mountain and lake views.
