Grand visit with 5 other close & long time buds. This was our 3rd year to enjoy SSI during Labor Day. Noticed the home has replaced the A/C, washer & dryer reflecting the desire to keep the house updated. So much tile flooring makes it easy for sand & wet post beach & pool fun. Full service kitchen for those few meals & snacks we had at the house. This house is relative close to the beach; however, the pool is the draw. It is a fab. salt water pool as denoted on the photo. It was clean & appears well maintained. We will be back after Labor Day 2013. The Blackwater Grill is the best restaurant on the island. The shrimp & grits was featured on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives & to die for. Of course there are other amazing places to chow down. Can I say I LOVE SSI.Recommended for: Sightseeing, age 55+, adventure seekers, girls getaway, pet owners, families with young children.

Spent the week of Labor Day 2011 in the house (4 of us). The house had everything we needed, plenty of room and a beautiful salt water pool to relax in. The house is less than a mile to the beach. We drove, walked and rode bikes to the beach for awesome morning walks. This house is close to everything and situated in a quiet neighborhood. We had a fantastic week!Did you find this review helpful? Yes | No Helpful votes: 0/2

My family and I were highly disappointed with Citrus Cottage, for several reasons: 1. Upon arrival, swimming pool nets and equipment were scattered all around the patio. My husband and I had to gather up these items. The umbrella that is supposed to be in the center of the outdoor table was on the ground and filthy, to the point that I did not even want to touch it or use it. The pool light was out, as well. 2. The dumpster had not been emptied from the previous renters and the stench from the hot garbage was disgusting. There was also trash in the recycling bin. 3. Kitchen issues: The oven pilot light kept going out causing small gas explosions while our food was cooking. The refrigerator’s ice dispenser was not functioning. There was an exposed electrical outlet on the wall close to the floor. My son and nephew are both under the age of two and this was extremely dangerous. 4.One of the top bunks on the bunk beds had a missing support beam, and another beam was split in half. The room containing the bunk beds had see through window shades, providing no privacy, and there was no legitimate door. (Please note that this bedroom is also the entrance from the driveway, so every time you enter the house, you are walking through someone’s bedroom). The twin beds were wobbly and unstable. Every bed in the house had lumpy mattresses and was extremely uncomfortable. 5. There is a definite roach problem. 6. Master bath has loose sink fixtures and the hinged door does not stay shut. 7. We could smell natural gas coming from the water heater. 8. Because this property is pet friendly, proper cleaning should be practiced. The area rug in my bedroom smelled like a group of wet dogs. 9. The AC unit was not able to keep the house cool at all times. Please, please do not stay here. The comment journal in the house had similar complaints from previous renters, yet nothing has been done. I highly suggest that the owner of this property take these complaints seriously and make the necessary improvements before renting it out, to anyone else. My family and I frequent St. Simons, and WILL NOT stay at Citrus Cottage, ever again.Owner response: The review we received was disappointing to us as well. Our property management company is on call seven days a week to resolve any problem or issue reported by a guest. Our property management company did not get any calls or feedback from this guest. The pool furniture and umbrella have been replaced as required. Housekeeping will check the exterior of the house and move and clean pool furniture as required. Normal garbage pickup service is on Tuesday and guests had been requested to bring dumpsters to the street, but rarely do. So to remedy this situation, we have paid to contract to have Saturday pickup during the busy season. The oven is functioning normally. It is thermostat controlled and turns on and off during the cooking cycle. Any sound is the burner re-igniting. The ice-maker needs a part which is on order. The outlet cover was replaced. The bunk beds will be repaired. There are three entrances to the house, two in the rear. If privacy in the bunkroom is an issue, the rear entrance into the living room is easily accessible. The mattresses were three years old. After investigating, we found that the manufacturer had discontinued this line due to quality problems. We have purchased new high quality Serta pillow top mattresses. We have increased the frequency of our scheduled pest control. If a problem is reported to the management company, our pest control provides on call service. Master bedroom issues are to be repaired. The air conditioning system is new and was sized to meet the needs of the square footage of the house. Filters are changed regularly. Temperatures have been between 95 and 100+ and put a strain on any system. Gas and wet dog odors were checked by several people and no odors were detected. We are working with our management company to improve the efficiency and quality of the property management system to address all issues as soon as possible. This should address repair, exterior maintenance and cleaning problems. We take all feedback from our guests very seriously. We have owned beach rental properties for many years and never had a situation like this. We will continue to work to improve our property and property management to assure our guest are satisfied and have a wonderful vacation experience.
