  We stayed in July 2010 and were not expecting much more than a basic place to spend the night for such a low price. We were pleasantly surprised. It is definitely not a luxury cabin - more like a quirky little grandmother's house, but it does have comfortable beds and a great deck directly over the little creek. My kids loved playing in the creek and the yard. The house is clean, has comfortable beds, and the landscaping is very well maintained. The kitchen and living room are very small but we spent most of the time on the deck. For the price it beats a cheap motel room any day. We only saw a few cars pass during our stay, and the only sounds you hear are the creek and the birds. The owners were very nice to deal with also. Great location for mountain biking, rafting, kayaking, and enjoying Fontana Lake.

  Recommended for: Sightseeing, families with young children, adventure seekers, age 55+.

  We really enjoyed our 3-day stay at this creek-side Almond cabin. Favorite feature: outdoor deck nestled directly over a small stream. The backdrop of creek sounds makes it really nice to sit on the deck and read, nap, or just relax. The cabin is easy to reach, but is on a secluded drive with no traffic. Almond is only minutes away from some beautiful smoky mountain recreation areas, like the Nantahala River (rafting, trails, etc.), the scenic spots on Wayah Creek, the Tsali recreation area (hiking, biking, horse trails and boat launch), the Joyce Kilmer Memorial Forest, the Cherohala skyway, and of course Fontana Lake. We especially enjoyed hiking around the edge of Fontana Lake at Tsali. The cabin owners were extremely pleasant and flexible. If you want to get away for a real break and experience the beauty of the mountains, this is a great place.
