Plum Island house description
This gorgeous contemporary wows everyone with 22 foot high ceilings, a gourmet party kitchen, and a wood burning fireplace. The stunning views of the marsh and harbor, the easy walks to the beach, make this a place to relax, or enjoy as a place to launch a day of exploring historic Newburyport, venture further to Rockport's lively art scene, or head to the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.
Groceries and newspapers can be had from Dick's, the local convenience store, a 4 minute walk, and booze and bait are just across the street. The Parker Wildlife Reserve is perfect for long walks, bike riding, and birding next to 7 miles of protected beach. The Plum Island Grille is 100 steps from the house and serves A+ food and drinks in a casual setting. Mad Martha's is a great local place for a superb Sunday brunch, complete with the funny papers. Newburyport has shopping, movies, theatre, live music and waterfront festivals, just ten min away- teenagers love the shopping, and if you are inclined, it is close enough to ride a bike, and on sundays stop into the Farmers Market, at The Tannery.
Last November a small wedding was held at the house, in front of the fire, and with the sunset as the photo backdrop. The Grille was the reception setting and it was as personal as it gets. This fall our guests are the family of the bride and groom- such a nice comfortable place to savor such a special moment in life.

- The Parker River Reserve is just down the street (5 minute walk), and is part of the National Parks Department. The seven mile stretch allows for bike riding with next to no cars, early morning walks and of course birding. There is a nature center just before you reach the Island that conducts all kinds of birding tours, lectures amd explorations. There is kayaking in downtown Newburyport that starts at the Plum Island bridge, going all thru the estuaries surrounding the Island. Really low key and beautiful. The PLum Island Grill is a three minute walk from the house for great grilled fish, or their famous sunset cocktails. ...moreless

Beautiful location with incredible sunsets and fun dinners on the deck!. Easy to get to the beach, to town and even Boston. Loved Bob Lobster, the fish market/outdoor cafe just a five minute walk. Bike riding in the Wildlife Reserve is quiet and wonderful. It was easy to go into Newburyport for shopping, movies and ice cream. The house was immaculate, and beautiful. Can't wait to go back.

About the owner: Growing up in Rhode Island and New Jersey, salt water has been in my DNA from the start. Throw in lobster and clams and I'm all set. We have celebrated Thanksgiving with a table set for 17, a Christmas tree 14' tall and five weddings. It's a happy place.
Why the Owner Chose Plum Island:
The close proximity to Boston (45 minutes off peak travel hours), the unpretentious quality of Plum Island, and the beauty of the island year round. And Newburyport has a cool little cinema, fun shopping and festivals all the time. Sailing, kayaking in fair weather months is easy to do right in the harbor. And Holiday time, the place is enchanting, always walkable and a treat to find the treasures of the season.
The Unique Benefits at this House:
If it's a family retreat, it's easy to relax and be together, enjoy the views and get a dose of salt air. Bob Lobster's fish market and cafe is just down the road, and makes it easy to do fried clams, or a full on lobster feast. The real surprise is how close to Boston it is, and the train station is just five minutes away- so doing up a day or evening in the city is easy. The house is a happy place, comfortable and it inspires everyone to appreciate the Island. Great for family reunions and girls getaways.
