Villa Jumbie was awesome. I find that when I read these reviews, I always wish there were more details included about how the property is physically set up and the ease of drive in getting to the place so I want to focus on that. With a turn across from the fire station in Coral Bay, you head up SeaGrape Hill. The drive is paved the whole way up and although the property doesn’t sit very high, you have to take several switchbacks up and some back down in order to reach the property. Because the drive is paved, it’s much easier to access than many driveways in the area. We had no hesitation going out at night with a return in the dark. We visited friends while we were there at their villa and their drive seemed treacherous compared to our paved experience- they would never return to their house after dark. With that said, when you get to the villa, you have about 1 ½ flights of stairs down to get to the house (parking is up above the house.) The stairs were in great shape as the house is still new. There’s a hose at the bottom of the steps so you can rinse things (feet/shoes) before going in the house. This is a great feature for your daily return from the beach. The house is exactly as you can see from video/pictures but of course the usual all-encompassing beauty is far better than you see in a picture. The location is nice but if you want pure wilderness, this place may not be for you. In the evenings we could hear the music from the nearby bar… which we loved, but some may not like it. It was always an eclectic mix of music – a variety of genre throughout the week. Again, we really enjoyed sitting out on the deck each night, having a drink and listening to the music right from the house! The light in the house is incredible. The sunshine hits the house a good portion of the day. When we were there in January, we could not see the sunrise over the water, it was coming up behind the hill to the left of the house but it didn’t make it any less magical as the light rolled over the hills to the right. Another magical moment was sitting on the deck on Sunday morning and listening to the people at the Moravian Church not far away. The singing was so spiritual and made for a beautiful Sunday morning. Now, for the house, it was EVERYTHING you could possibly need and want. I wouldn’t hesitate to rent again and would recommend it to anyone.

Kind of hard to say more than what has already been said in all the reviews of this property. We just returned from 9 days at Villa Jumbie starting January 1st. If you are considering Jumbie you can believe and trust all the review comments listed and the web site photos, it is all true. If your are considering east St. John, away from the busy Cruz Bay area, look no further. Everything about this home is classy and will leave you feeling pampered, the owners and property managers will not leave you feeling you might have looked at other properties. If it is available for your dates just book and prepare to have a wonderful time.

St John has a special place in our hearts - we were married on the island in 2003 and have made a point to return as often as possible! Our favorite place on earth! It was our first experience staying on the east side of the island - Coral Bay and Villa Jumbie were awesome! Loved it! Spacious and decorated with Caribbean flair! Even nicer than the pictures provided online. Parking at the villa was also great! (some parking spaces at other villas are almost impossible) Air conditioned and tons of ceilings fans both inside and outside on the covered veranda to keep you comfortable. Pool was just the right size and the bathroom on the pool deck was a plus! There is also a cooler (w/ 'coolies' in the freezer) and beach chairs and beach towels for daily trips to all of the beautiful beaches. We didn't need it but there was also snorkeling gear there for your use! The gift bag of treats provided at the villa was also a very nice touch! In the evening when Skinny Legs has live entertainment you can sit on the deck and hear the music - not loud or overbearing - but you can hear it. :) Cannot say enough good things about the villa. My favorite beach will always be Trunk but all of the beaches have their own beauty or something special about them. If you get a chance, take a day trip to the BVI on Bad Kitty ~ John was excellent! Favorites places: Beach Bar, Skinny Legs, Motu (gotta try the Nutella/Peanut Butter drink - you won't regret it!), Aqua Bistro, La Tapa, Tourist Trap and Miss Lucys just to mention a few of many. And last but certainly not least, THANKS to Karen who was truly wonderful and extremely responsive to our emails, as was Emily at Cimmaron St John. :) Our flight was delayed about 1 1/2 hours and we arrived on St John after St John Car Rental closed (they were fantastic too) they worked with Emily & had our keys ready for us when we got there! Thanks for helping make this another fantastic trip to LOVE CITY and can't wait to visit again soon!

The Villa Jumbie is the perfect island home. There were 4 adults in our party and the Villa was spacious and had everything we needed for our stay. The views from the veranda, bedrooms and pool deck were amazing. The Villa is air conditioned but there is also a wonderful breeze especially in the early mornings and late afternoons. The Villa is decorated with many Carribean accents and is beautiful and we all felt like we were "home" for the week. There are so many small touches that make the Villa special from the wind chimes and hummingbird feeders on the veranda to the outdoor bathroom by the pool and the fish dishes and utensils in the kitchen. We had a great time exploring the beaches and Coral Bay. Once you master "keeping left" it is easy to navigate around the island and with the winding hilly roads each drive was an adventure. Karen the owner was wonderful helping us arrange our stay and answered all our questions. I wish we could thank them in person for sharing their home with us. Lastly the snorkel and beach equipment was an added bonus. It was our first time snorkeling and now we are all hooked. We were able to use the Villa gear and did not need to rent anything during our beach trips.

I agree with others , the pictures do not do justice to this villa. We have stayed on the island many times in different villas, but this one has everything my wife and I were looking for...so nice it was hard to leave to experience the beautiful beaches on the island. Whether you want to stay in and grill on the deck for dinner or enjoy a cocktail on the deck before going out it has it all. Also some nice snorkeling equipment available in the pool closet. Already have booked our return visit for next year. Would recommend highly if you like seclusion, beautiful views and a clean, new and spacious living space after a day at the beach.

Villa Jumbie was even nicer than the photos and descriptions. The house was situated on the side of a hill with trees all around giving it complete privacy from the other couple of homes nearby. We really enjoyed the spacious decks, having breakfast every morning on the comfy furniture, swimming in our own private pool in the evenings. The two bedrooms are identical, each having it's own full bathroom. The kitchen is huge! Lots of counter space and everything is new and spotless! On a previous trip to St John, I stayed at a place w/o air conditioning and it was uncomfortable, so having AC throughout the entire house was much appreciated.Staying on the Coral bay side of the island was quiet and laid back compared to the Cruz Bay side. Most nights we drove to Cruz Bay for dinner and shopping. La Tapa was the best meal of the trip! The truffled potato gnocci with brown butter sage and serrano ham was amazing! Also great service. The Fish trap and Key Lime Inn had great fish entrees.Trunk Bay was amazingly beautiful, but Salt Pond Bay had much fewer people.

OMG! A TROPICAL PARADISE! ST. JOHN IS BEAUTIFUL! I LOVED THE MANY BEAUTIFUL BEACHES AND SNORKELED EVERYDAY (THE BEACH CHAIRS WERE GREAT)! VILLA JUMBIE IS A PERFECT LOCATION. JUST A SHORT DRIVE TO ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING! THE BINDER ON THE COFFEE TABLE WAS VERY HELPFUL IN NAVIGATING ST. JOHN. WE ENJOYED RELAXING, WITH COFFEE & READING ABOUT ST. JOHN, ON THE PORCH EVERY MORNING AND LISTENING TO ALL THE WILDLIFE (ESPECIALLY THE BIRDS THAT VISITED US EACH AND EVERY DAY)! THE VIEWS OF THE BAY, THE MOUNTAINS, ETC. FROM THE PORCH WERE AMAZING (WE EVEN SAW A RAINBOW ONE DAY). WE COOKED OUR MEALS, EVERY DAY IN A KITCHEN "TO DIE FOR"! I HAVE NEVER SEEN AN OUTDOOR GRILL SO SPOTLESS! THE VILLA...SO CLEAN...SPOTLESS...EVERYTHING YOU COULD NEED TO FEEL SOOOOOO COMFORTABLE!!!!!! WHAT AN AWESOME POOL!!!! I LOVE OUR NATIONAL PARK AND DRIVING THROUGH THE MOUNTAINS EVERY DAY....IT WAS HEAVENLY!!!! HOPE TO COME BACK......I TOTALLY RECOMMEND ST. JOHN AND WONDERFUL VILLA JUMBIE!!!!

Just returned from our fantastic stay at Villa Jumbie! Dito to all the positive comments from previous reviews! We'd like to add that we have vacationed on St. John many times and stayed at a different villa each visit. Villa Jumbie was one of our favorites! We appreciated having all the living areas on one level (we did not use the upper level bedroom) and of course being able to open the sliding glass door and walk right to the pool or wrap around covered porch! The pool was definitely the best we have encountered at any villa yet. The water was always at the perfect swimming temperature since it is in full sunlight all day! The villa location was also a plus for us since we like the Coral Bay side of the island. We hope to return to this wonderful villa on a future vacation in St John.

Karen and Tom - thank you for all of the information provided before we arrived. We stayed at Villa Jumbie from August 4th- 9th and it was perfect for our family of 5 (three boys ages 14, 12, 7). The pictures are nice but the villa's living space is so much larger in person (good closet space too). Thanks for the nicely stocked kitchen. It is so nicely decorated; love the Carribbean flare and the large windows keep the amazing views close when inside too! I loved the outdoor space in the morning (having coffee and reading my book before everyone else got up). Although I didn't use them it was neat having ceiling fans outside. We enjoyed the "Caribbean" music being played from across the bay. The pool was a nice touch, small but refreshing, it kept the kids occupied and outside. We loved Trunk Bay, Maho Bay, Little Lameshur Bay and we took a snorkel/sailing trip which took us to Watermelon Cay and saw many of the BVI's too (just gorgeous). Definitely a great way to see St John! We went to St Thomas for 2 days but were glad we spent more time in St John..its a gem. We also took a ride to the east end and it looks very much like "the road less traveled" . We hope to make it to Villa Jumbie again.

I loved Villa Jumbie and the "quiet side" of St. John! The house is every bit as lovely as the pictures! It was perfect for my husband and I, but there is plenty of room for 2 couples with equal bedrooms. The house is very private, but you can hear the birds, goats, donkeys, and the lovely churchbells on Sunday morning. Karen was great about answering my jillion questions and Krystal from Cimmaron was wonderful showing us the workings of the house! The house was very clean and I loved the island decorating! It's the tropics, so you do have to watch for sugar ants and other insects, but you are in paradise in a lovely, "homey", house, and you can tell there is a lot of pride taken in this home. Everything we needed was there: beach chairs, pool float, fun, whimsical beachy dishes. My favorite place was the comfy porch! I would definitely reccomend this to my family. In fact, my son and his fiance are honeymooning there! If I had my own place on St. John, this is the kind of house I'd want! The only negative was that I had to leave!Thank you, Karen and Tom!

We have been to St. John many times and have stayed at different villas each time. In our opinion, staying at different villas is like making another discovery while on St. John. We have always enjoyed the Coral Bay/East End side of the island and picked Villa Jumbie for our first stay on this side of the island. The owners: The moment we made the reservation, we knew that it was a great choice. The owners immediately acknowledged our reservation, even calling us direct to just ensure we had all the information we needed. They are extremely kind, caring people who want nothing more than for you to enjoy their villa and the island. We were again contacted after arrival to ensure we had all that we needed and to let us know that if we had any concerns or if we needed anything else, to please contact them or Cimmaron Management. They even acknowledged our 25th wedding anniversary while we were there (very thoughtful). Upon our return home, they made sure our damage deposit was returned immediately as well. The villa: Jumbie is not huge and it does not have elaborate furnishings. What it does have is cozy and bright rooms, filled with quality accessories and comforts that make for the most relaxing vacation you could ask for. It is perfect. It is a home. There are movies, books, and games. All the dishes and 'nice' cookware you need are supplied (something that we can really appreciate after seeing what many other villas offer). One of the smartest ideas they employed into their build was a half bath directly off of the pool--no puddles of water thru the villa from bathroom breaks! The covered porch is great to relax on. There are ceiling fans to keep the bugs away and of course keep the air flowing. You can even take an afternoon nap there on the cushioned loveseat or chaise. The pool is warm and receives sun all day. They have floats, a cooler, beach chairs, and snorkel equipment for the beach. The views are beautiful. You will see the sailboats in Coral Bay every morning when you wake and you will be able to watch what is going on below but you are still up high enough to have privacy. From down below you will hear the sheep, goats, chickens, and even the bells of the church on Sunday. It is comforting. Go . . . enjoy . . . you won't be disappointed. This is certainly a villa that will remain in our minds for future visits. Thank you Tom and Karen for such a wonderful experience!

We had a wonderful week at Villa Jumbie - it is comfortable and beautiful and equal distance to many of the best beaches. We really enjoyed Francis and drove right down to the small parking lot at the beach. The snorkeling is great at Hawksnest and Trunk if you avoid the crowds. Snorkeling was also good at Salt Pond Bay. We ate out, we ate in, just had a relaxing and wonderful time.

We stayed for a week at Villa Jumbie on our most recent trip to St. John (we've lost track of how many times we've visited, including getting married there!). We had a wonderful time. The house is lovely and conveniently located in the Coral Bay area. We enjoy the quiet (and funky) side of St. John. We ate most of our meals at the house since the kitchen was so well equipped, but we also ate at our favorite places: Vie's, Miss Lucy's, Aqua Bistro, Island Blues, and Donkey Diner (pizza for dinner and a huge breakfast). We were surprised by the number of green sea turtles and an elusive spotted eagle ray during a late afternoon/sunset snorkel at Maho Bay. We will keep this house on our short list of places to stay on STJ and will recommend it to family and friends. Thanks to Karen and Tom for sharing it with us!

The kitchen is well stocked with everything you need. We made good use of the beach chairs and cooler that the owners provide. If you are looking for a quite, relaxing place to get away...this is the place! The view is breathtaking from the living room and wrap around porch. Karen was quick to respond to any questions that we had. Thanks again for sharing this beautiful home and island with us!

We stayed in Villa Jumbie ,May 14th-21st. We were very impressed in the villa. It was very roomy and comfortable. We had two couples and there was plenty of room and privacy. I commend the owners for making it so homey. The villa has everything that you need to cook or not. The best thing about the villa in my opinion is the wrap around porch. We spent most of our time out there. The views are incredible and it is very private. We didn't get to use the pool much but it was nice to cool off in. There are floats, beach chairs, and a cooler with ice packs. I loved the personal touches, colorful tiles in the bathrooms and marble countertops in the kitchen. Really added to the beauty. With full air conditioning and washer and dryer this place is over the top. Loved the location in Coral Bay as it was very close to some great restaurants and shops. (loved Donkey Diner Sunday brunch) worth a try

Our family of 4 just returned from a 10 day stay at Villa Jumbie. It was a fabulous place to stay. Everyone loved it. Our kids are ages 9 and 11 and it was perfect for them too. They had space to themselves because one took the downstairs bedroom and the other the pullout sofa bed. They loved having a TV and dvd player in each room -- quite a treat. They also loved the pool. It is small but perfect for their dips in the morning and evening. The grill is right by the pool and the kitchen window opens on to it also. The design is so nice. I could make dinner and keep an eye on them at the same time. The pictures on-line don't do it justice because it is so much more spacious than it appeared. It was immaculate, beautifully decorated and fully stocked with all of the essentials in the kitchen and for the beach. I think my favorite aspect of this villa is the huge veranda and pool deck. I had my morning coffee outside each day and watche the goats walk over to the school yard's ballfield to graze. And being in Coral Bay was also a real treat! It is so much quieter. We prefer the beaches over that way too -- Maho, Salt Pond, Haulover, Hansen Bay, Leinster. It is truly a lovely place to stay and we plan to come back asap.

We had a great time and loved our stay at Villa Jumbie. Friends went with us and there is plenty of room for two couples to share the house. The bedrooms are equal -each with it's own private bath (the upstairs bedroom is reached by a spiral staircase.) The house is comfortable & well appointed & decorated with a Caribbean flair with lots of glass doors for views of Coral Bay & the mountains. My favorite "room" in the villa was the wonderful comfortable porch with great views and gentle breezes where you can watch the birds flit by. Keep sugar water in the hummingbird feeder & they will visit-banaquits too. Everyday a pearly eyed thrasher checked us out. The porch a great place for morning coffee- a good book and evening happy hour. On Sunday morning we sat on the porch and listened to the music from the charming historic Moravian Church near-by It's a short drive to beautiful beaches. We snorkeled at Leinster Bay (reach by an easy trail) & Francis Bay( parking near the beach). They are probably the closest north shore beaches to Villa Jumbie. Maho is the next to the west. Our favorite place to eat was Miss Lucy's. We went there for the Sunday Jazz Brunch. The food was good and it's right by the water! We also liked Skinney Legs and Shipwreck. Villa Jumbie is even nicer than the pictures on the website and was very well kept. Karen(the owner) was very helpful answering my many questions before our trip. The representative for Cimmaron Management. was at the ferry dock when we arrived and even let us make a grocery stop at Starfish Market on the way to the house. While in Coral Bay check out Lilly's Market at Cocolobo Plaza on 107 next to Crabbies They have a lot of supplies -much more than I expected plus wine-beer-liquor some produce & meat. Don't miss trying Blind Betty Hot sauce- tried the original & it's great! We hope to be back. What a great vacation!

Everything you need is right there - there was absolutely nothing that we needed that was not provided for at the villa! The home is beautifully designed and decorated. The deck and pool are absolutely wonderful - spent many evening hours there. The owners are grea tand Cimmaron Properties made the whole rental process absolutely a cinch! We have rented many vacation homes, and we thought Jumbie was great. It's brand new, well equipped, and well designed. The open floor plan and many sliding doors to the deck give it an airy beach feel. The deck has both sun and shade and ample seating. The plunge pool is great - even though we spent nearly every day in the ocean, we did use the pool several evenings. We chose Jumbie so we could get away, and it's perfect for that without being far from restaurants and activities. Beautiful view and plenty of privacy. We're trying to figure out how soon we can go back for another visit. Notes: You must rent a car to stay here. The drive up Sea Grape Hill is a little adventurous but doable, and the road is paved. The recommendation for 55+ is with the caveat that there is a long flight of stairs down to the house from the parking space, and the 2nd bedroom is up a narrow spiral staircase.

Villa Jumbie was an excellent choice for our first visit to St John. The Cimmaron staff were excellent and very helpful (Crystal was nice, friendly, and a great guide to the villa). Karen and Tom were great and answered all of our questions and more before our trip! Villa Jumbie is in a nice location, but you definitely need a 4WD to get there, as with most places. Coral Bay is close, you can drive out to Salt Pond for snorkeling, and the North Shore Road takes you to the north shore beaches (we thought it was better than staying in Cruz Bay - seemed less busy and 'touristy'). We also generally took this road over to Cruz Bay for a pretty easy ride. Great places to snorkel include Waterlemon Cay (a little bit of a hike out there), the beach across from Miss Vie's (it was ~$2.50/person), and Salt Pond. Villa Jumbie was well maintained and we would certainly recommend it. Be sure to use the mosquito coils when you are out on the deck at night though! Some places with good food include Miss Lucy's (go to the Sunday jazz brunch), Donkey Diner (for breakfast), Aqua Bistro (good food for dinner), Shipwreck Landing, and Asolare (near Cruz bay - great for a nice dinner out with excellent view). If you are into art, we would also recommend checking out Maho Bay Campground. They have glassblowing demonstrations and some great artwork for sale in their gallery at decent prices. Maho Bay Clayworks is also located here.

We were the first couple to rent Villa Jumbie and as such weren't sure how ready the place would be for vacationers. Fear not, this place is well equipped. We loved coming back to the Villa after a long day at the beach to take a dip in the saltwater pool. Then, we relaxed on the beautiful wrap-around porch, reading books, watching movies from the video store right at the bottom of the hill. If you come in off-season, many of the local restaurants/stores are closed for a month or two. Fortunately, the well-stocked kitchen at Villa Jumbie allowed us to prepare most of our meals at home. If you really like to get away from EVERYTHING, Villa Jumbie and Coral Bay are a perfect fit- much less touristy and busy than Cruz Bay but still close enough to beaches. The house offers much privacy but still has a beautiful view of the bay. I loved this side of the island for the wild animals (donkeys, pigs, cows, goats, roosters) that roamed it- so much fun! The owners and property managers did a great job in making us feel welcome. The property managers met us at the dock, took us to our car rental (yes- a car is necessary), and led us to the house to give us a tour. The owner was very thoughtful and was great in answering all of my questions about St John and the Villa before we arrived. For all of the amenities it offered especially a private swimming pool, ac, and washer/dryer, the Villa Jumbie was a great deal- especially in the off-season. I would definitely recommend it to a couple looking to get away or even a small family of 4 as there are 2 decent sized bedrooms. The only caveat is the drive up the hill to get to the house- which is just a fact of life in much of St John as roads are windy and steep- rent a 4WD Jeep and you should be fine. Enjoy your stay!
