Serene by day, set in lush tropical gardens, majestic kamani trees and mountains rise behind you, with ocean and sky before you. At night, on your deck, watch the moon rise over silver water under a breathtaking canopy of stars. Come here for a romantic escape or vacation with family and friends.

Take the one minute walk to our beach access for shelling, sunbathing, and water activities or stroll a mile along the sand to renowned Tunnels Beach for more snorkeling and swimming. Drive the 1 1/2 miles to Ha'ena Beach Park and then on to Ke'e Beach at the beginning of the Na Pali trail, or if you're in the mood, travel the scenic 3 miles along Hanalei Bay to enjoy restaurants, water activities, and shops in Hanalei town. This is life in the tropics!

What a wonderful stay we had at Hale O Mahina! The pictures actually undersold the beauty and attention to detail that awaited us at this home. The former owners (who we worked with to book our stay) have done a wonderful job of decorating and stocking the house for a relaxing and hassle free visit. I hope the new owners can pick up on the importance of these details, as we did run into a hiccup in our stay when the water was shut off for one night because someone did not notify the water company properly of the transfer of ownership. The property management firm was on top of it, and we had water flowing the next morning - not that big of deal overall. We spent our days swimming, hiking, and exploring - so coming back to those wonderful jacuzzi tubs was such a treat. The open design of the common area let us mingle as we cooked, played games, and enjoyed the swaying palms. The beach trail is so close that we were walking along the shore within a few minutes - something my daughter and I did almost daily before breakfast. I highly recommend this property.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway, sightseeing.

This is a most wonderful house in a perfectly situated Haena neighborhood on Kauai's North Shore. Every detail of Hale O Mahina pampers and delights you from first impression to your last wave goodbye. The open and airy layout, decor, furnishings and appointments are beautifully lavish and comfortable, affording you the perfect combination of easy Hawaiian feeling with modern convenience. The location, just across the street from the beach, allows views and the restful sounds of the ocean to be heard day and night. Apart from ocean and other delightful natural sounds (birds, rain), the location is very quiet -- no noisy neighbors or loud, early morning chickens. Short drive or walk to Tunnels for great snorkeling, short drive to other marvelous North Shore beaches, or Hanalei, Princeville, etc. make Hale O Mahina a very convenient place to spend your Kauai vacation. Sliding scale rate for various-sized groups is very reasonable for the accommodation provided. You will truly love Hale O Mahina.Recommended for: Age 55+, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, sightseeing.

This is a spectacular home that has all the amenities for a large family. The kitchen is beautifully updated and the great room was incredibly comfortable, open, and light. There is an ocean view from the great room and balcony and the beach access is a very short 2 minute walk. The location on the North Shore is absolutely beautiful. Everything was clean and well-maintained with all the comforts of home. The beach supply closet and outdoor shower were particularly useful for our family's water and beach activities. I would highly recommend this property and we look forward to returning to it ourselves in future visits to Kauai.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children.

My wife and I just returned from a stay with two other couples at Hale o Mahina. We had a delightful time and the house was simply excellent. The house is beutifully constructed and appointed and the 3/3 layout and jacuzzi tubs makes the place outstanding for couples travling together as well as families. The owners are delightful people that take a hands-on and diligent effort to make the house complete, clean, very well maintained, and relaxing for renters. It is also located ideally within a block of the beach, a 3 minute stroll to the Colony for coffee, snacks, or dinner, and within just a few minutes drive of Tunnels Beach, the botanical gardens, and Ke'e beach/Kalau trail head (btw. . . definitely do the day hike to Hanakapia Beach and Hanakapia Falls). We would highly recommend this house for your future stays on the north shore of Kauai.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, families with young children, sightseeing.

We just returned from a 2.5wk vacation at Hale O Mahina. We were thrilled with everything that was offered by this listing including amenities, location and support from the owners. We had one of the best vacations of our lives and managed to completely relax and enjoy our time there. We stayed long enough to start developing a real appreciation for the local area and people. A big thanks to the owners, we can't wait to come back again.Recommended for: Families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, girls getaway.
Owner response: Mahalo nui loa to our gracious guests for your care of our hale and of our aina. (Like many of our visitors, you took the time to recycle and left unopened food for future guests and for our food bank). We are very happy to have been a positive part of your family vacation. Welcome to our island family-we look forward to your return. "Malama Kaua'i" lives! Much Aloha, Harry and Suzy

Our family just returned from ten glorious nights at Hale O Mahina and we simply can't stop talking and dreaming about this heavenly house. While the photos do the home justice, they do not convey the true serenity and bliss of the Hale O Mahina (or the view of the surf from the house which is hard to capture in a photo - I tried myself). The house is so peaceful, so gorgeous and so perfect in every way. I would describe the feeling of the place as "zen". There was not a thing that we needed that was not provided. Suzy and Harry were the perfect hosts who thought of everything and made us feel very welcome. We loved cooking meals in the fabulous and thoughtfully stocked kitchen and dining under the moon on the huge deck which surrounds the home. While we often set out on adventures we also spent many days "at home", savoring the perfect beach just steps away. We have two children (ages six and nine) and they too fell in love with Hale O Mahina. While there were televisions and games provided my kids did not touch them. They were much more content taking in the views of the ocean and counting shooting stars from the lounge chairs. We can not wait to return to Hale O Mahina and the beyond beautiful North Shore of Kauai. We wish we could move in and stay forever.Recommended for: Age 55+, families with teenagers, adventure seekers, romantic getaway, families with young children, girls getaway, sightseeing.
