On the lake, in Arizona? Well, we thought it was amazing. Here we are, in the middle of the desert, and we have a lake at our doorstep and a beautifully lighted fountain, birds and fishing. The lake is man-made, but beautiful, the whole community is remarkable, and very friendly - approximately 12,000 residents...It is only a short drive to the grocery store, doable by golf cart. My grandchildren love it!
GOLF and amenities: There is a pitching park to practice your short game, 5 golf courses, 5 clubhouses, 5 swimming pools, kiddies pools, lap pools, tennis courts, exercise activities, and the gorgeous weather in the winter to enjoy them all.
We fell in love with this place, and if you haven't been to Sun Lakes, you will fall in love with it too, the very first time you are here. And, you'll be back, for sure. It is a golf and tennis paradise.

My husband and I stayed at this property Nov. '11. The photos accurately reflect the rental's appearance and was clean and well maintained. We especially enjoyed the pond and fountain. The golf cart was a wonderful amenity. You would not be disappointed.Recommended for: Age 55+.

Year Purchased: 2009
About the owner: My husband and I went to 'rent' a place for one month in this area in November, 2009 and ended up buying TWO houses in this retirement area (must be older than 40 years old and with children older than 19) to own/rent. Most importantly, grandchildren are welcome to VISIT anytime... and plenty for them to do. We ended up staying until April and, because we are Canadian, had to limit the time we spend in the US, otherwise we would have stayed longer. We have a beautiful place in Canada, right on the ocean.. and a summer place at Shuswap Lake, but we couldn't get enough of our home(s) in Sun Lakes. It is the perfect place to go in the winter months.
Why the Owner Chose Sun Lakes:
We had been looking all over the world to find that perfect place to spend our winter months. We've been to New Zealand.... lovely place, our first choice if the travel distance wasn't so great. Mexico was also on our list, but we found it too hot until January, and very difficult to find golf. We also feel very secure at Sun Lakes, and no language difference, although we are continually told we have an accent, eh?
The Unique Benefits at this House:
We golf, my husband plays pool/billiards and there are four large tables where regulars go and play at the main clubhouse area. We like to go out for dinner and dancing, and the available places (four +) are great, each with a different atmosphere. The golf courses provide a challenge, and there is one to test your long game and another to test your short game. The golf cart is licensed and can be driven to and from the grocery store, recycling area, to all the clubhouses, swimming pools, drug store, etc. We absolutely love this place. We fly from Bellingham to Phoenix Gateway on Allegiant Air and this costs as little as $100 one way (including taxes!!). Once we arrive, we are picked up by a shuttle we have pre-arranged and are taken 20 minutes along a freeway route to our home.
