Accommodations:  Cabin, 1 Bedroom + Convertible Bed(s), 1 Bath (Sleeps 2-4)

Welcome to Homestead Guest Cabins, one of Alaska's best-kept secrets, located along the beautiful Glenn Highway National Scenic Byway, and surrounded by the Talkeetna Mountains on the north and the Chugach Mountains on the south. The cabin is nestled in a peaceful quiet valley surrounded by spruce and birch trees, an abundance of wild flowers, and the neighborhood moose that may just pay you a visit!

We are conveniently located an easy 2 hour drive from Anchorage and 1 hour from Palmer, and just minutes away from the spectacular Matanuska Glacier. The area offers many recreational opportunities such as hiking/climbing on the glacier, river rafting, flightseeing, gold panning, hiking the many trails, fossil hunting, fishing, berry picking, 4-wheeling and snowmachining on the nearby trail systems, and amazing photographic opportunities everywhere you look!

Don't let the word 'cabin' scare you off -- it is charming and cozy with all the modern conveniences, new furnishings, and tastefully decorated with artwork from local Alaskans. It has been handcrafted by your hosts, Dan and Sandy Lee, and is awaiting your arrival after a busy day exploring Alaska.

Dan built the cabin from logs that he harvested across the Matanuska River and milled on his sawmill. It has a wonderful warm cozy atmosphere because of the logs, but don't think it is too rustic for you -- it has all the modern conveniences, private bathroom with shower, new queen size bed and furnishings, and is sparkling clean. Dishes, pots & pans, bedding, linens are provided and the kitchen has a full size refrigerator, stove with oven, microwave, coffeemaker, toaster, complimentary tea and coffee, and some basic food supplies/ spices. Fold up beds and extra bedding are available, and the cabin is heated with a TOYO stove which can be adjusted for your personal comfort level.

Your get away cabin is nestled in the woods with ample parking right by your front door and just a short jaunt away from your host's log home. Hiking trails leave almost from your doorstep, and after a short hike you will be high enough to have a fantastic view of the Matanuska Glacier and the surrounding country. There are a few resident moose and if you are lucky you may have a visitor coming through around dusk or early in the morning.

Cozy Log Cabin in Prime Recreational Country!
Why the Owner Chose Glacier View

It was a natural to expand our sawmill business to building cabins to sharing them with guests. Because Dan was raised here, this whole area is his 'playground', and his knowledge is very valuable in helping to plan activities for guests as well as sharing about local forest, fauna, and history.

Owner's Map of Glacier View

Your hosts, Dan and Sandy Lee, have roots grown pretty deep in Alaska. Dan's parents homesteaded in this valley in the 50's, and he has spent his entire life in this country, commercial fishing as a young adult, moving into placer gold mining, logging and operating his own sawmill business, and he possesses a myriad of other skills necessary to our lifestyle on the homestead, including building our own log home and guest cabins. After obtaining a degree in medical technology, Sandy came to Alaska in the mid 70's where work waited for her. Living and working in rural communities and villages was fulfilling, challenging, and exciting; but when she met Dan, the adventures really began as a wife, companion, and helper in the gold mining and sawmill businesses. The challenges continued as we raised our 3 children and we are still actively involved in school, church, and community activities. We both love Alaska and the lifestyle we experience here. We never take for granted the awesome grandeur of the beauty that surrounds us and the incredible opportunities available in this state. We thoroughly enjoy sharing this beautiful part of Alaska and telling some of our adventures to our guests.

Lovely cozy cabin with amazing hosts

You feel that you have caring hosts the minute that you walk into this cabin. It's meticulously clean, and everything is designed/set up for perfection. The Lees are a very kind and caring family. One of our friends was going through early stage morning sickness, and Sandy unexpectedly brought her some herbal medication and print-outs of medical articles about the morning sickness. The cabins are built by Dan, and he has done a fantastic job in designing these units. We highly recommend staying with this kind family and enjoying the beautiful nature of this area.

Clean, cozy, charming, romantic, well Equipped Cabin! We will be back w/our family & parents in June

Guest: Laura & Todd (Wasilla, AK)
Date of Stay: 02/11/11 Review Submitted: 02/23/11

My husband and I were driving up the ALCAN from Portland OR in May, my favorite part of the 2,600 mile drive was Glacier View Alaska. I told my husband that I wanted to come back to that area of Alaska again. We decided to get away the weekend before Valentines Day and wanted to find something in the Glacier View area. He found a place on VRBO in exactly the area that I wanted to get away to. When making the reservation, Todd said that Sandy and Dan were very helpful and friendly. We made the gorgeous drive from Wasilla to Glacier View, it only took an 1hr and half and we loved the drive on the way there. When we arrived we went up to their huge log home that Dan built, Sandy was so friendly and got us the info we needed to get checked in. I was nervous about how the cabins would look on the inside, & how clean they would be because I'm a self proclaimed "clean freak". I was so excited when we opened the door to the cabin, the lights were on, the heater was on and the cabin was so warm and cozy. It was snowing and cold outside and we just curled up in this amazing cabin. They had just purchased a new TV and DVD player so we had brought movies to enjoy as we were just wanting a quiet night away from our 2 children (5 & 8). We brought dinner and snacks and board games. We truly had the greatest night away. I was so impressed with all of the details and care that they had put into this cabin. They had really nice dishes and silver wear, they had everything we needed to cook. The bed was probably the most comfortable bed I've slept that was not my own. My parents are coming to AK from Oregon in June and I am excited to bring them to the cabins to stay for a few nights. We didn't want to do any outdoor activities, we just wanted a romantic escape from cell phones, computers and the hustle and bustle of life and this was the perfect place for that. I know you'll enjoy your stay. We can't wait to come back. Thanks Sandy and Dan.

Comfortable, Clean, and Warm

When we arrived the cabin was warm and welcoming, clean and well equipped, and set in a Alaskin landscape that can only be described as awesome. We wanted a get away from Anchorage for Thanksgiving and found this the perfect place to stay. Sandy made us feel comfortable here, and one evening came down to the cabin to see how we were doing. She shared a few stories about their adventures here in Alaska with us as we made Christmas cookies to send to family in Oregon and California. Thank you Sandy we will be back again, and God Bless.

This is what you're looking for!

Such a wonderful stay we had December 26th -29th. My wife and I needed some alone time after the rush of Christmas. The cabin is immaculately clean and although hand built with lumber harvested and milled on the property, it has all ammenities of the modern hotel room. Dan and Sandy were able to cater to our needs and provided an awesome three days away from it all. Sandy brought over her soughdough pancake starter and we had some of the best tasting pancakes ever - even with our making them for the first time. The cabin is located close enough to palmer that it doesn't take so long to get there yet close enough to the Sheep Mountain/Eureka area to make a decent jump off point for snow machining, cross country skiing, or winter small game hunting (like we did), and still be able to come back to a warm and "comfy" cabin. For all of you folks visiting from the South, Dan and Sandy exhibit true "Southern Hospitality" - even though they are not Southerners and will make you feel right at home! Thanks for a great stay, Rob and Marie, Wasilla, AK. (but Southern Transplants!)

An absolutely adorable cabin, easy to find and get to, the construction is jaw-dropping in its beauty and high attention to detail, we found it delightfully cozy and peaceful - what a great place to spend time unwinding! We will most definitely return, as well as recommend to anyone we know to visit Sandy and Dan Lee's gorgeous retreat -- thank you both ever so much for a fantastic New Year's weekend stay!!!

This is an absolutely charming cabin. Cozy and comfortable in a gorgeous setting. We were just looking for a warm dry place to sleep while exploring around the region on our Polaris Ranger. This cabin exceeded all our expectations in all ways! It is to us, a perfect balance of rustic cabin with all the modern comforts and conveniences. (My wife especially loved the modern bathroom!) A lot of thought went into decorating the cabin and it was spotless. Dan and Sandy are the greatest. They made us feel so welcome. They already seem like old friends. They seem to care so much about their guests. They wanted to make sure that we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Sandy even brought us over a tray with sourdough starter and all the ingredients we need to make pancakes our first morning there. They were great. It was so much fun visiting with them. I have lived in Alaska for over thirty years but they were able to point me to places to explore that I never would have found without them. They even came to our rescue when we got stuck exploring nearby Boulder Creek on our Polaris Ranger. We were buried and it was a Monday. No one was on the trail. We were able to get a hold of them and they dropped everything to come to our rescue! These are Real Alaskans that offer Real Alaskan hospitality. We will definitely be back and have already recommended this place to visiting relatives and local family. Not only did we have a great weekend and find a new favorite place to stay, but my wife and I feel like we made amazing new life long friends!

My husband and I stayed in one of three immaculate; well-built cabins the owner Dan built. It had everything we needed and is in excellent condition. The cabins are on a dirt road away from the highway so it is quiet. The closest neighbors are Dan and Sandy who are just up the road in an amazing log home Dan built. The view from their deck is the best mountainous view I've ever seen and this area has stunning mountains. The Matanuska Glacier is only 6 miles away. What a fun time we had walking on the glacier. You can explore on your own or hire a guide. Dan showed us a trail just a few minutes walk from the cabin, which goes up to a fossil bed and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We can't wait to come back. There are many more things to do in the area. I'm sure it is beautiful in the fall as well with all the aspen and birch trees. We will be highly recommending it to all of our friends and family. Dan and Sandy are so kind and accommodating and are a wealth of information on this area and Alaska. I could go on but do your self a favor and check it out. Thanks again Dan and Sandy. You have a wonderful thing going here. See you again!
